We are trying to spread the word about Trench Wars to a new generation of players, trying to get the zone up to the high activity levels of years past. What we want to do is spread the word about the Trench Wars community through videos.

We are announcing a contest...

We want to see what kind of creative videos the Trench Wars players can come up with that will get thousands of views on YouTube. The videos can be about anything, BUT they must contain a reference to Trench Wars and the www.trenchwars.org web site address, at least at the very end of the video, and preferably in other places during the video.

Obviously, the more a video relates to Trench Wars, the better a chance it stands of being picked as our winner, but like I said, it can be about anything. Try to pick something that will appeal to the general public and has the potential to go viral. Some examples are the "Leave Britney Alone" or "Chocolate Rain" videos.

Why create a video? Because the best video submission wins a new Samsung 20 inch LCD Monitor!

Guidelines for video:

1. Create a YouTube video that attracts as many viewers as possible.

2. When you have created your video and added it to YouTube, leave a message in the "Video Contest!" Trench Wars forum thread informing us of the video.

3. Videos that make fun of other Trench Wars players without their permission will be disqualified. Besides, it wouldn't be funny to the general public.

4. No usage of photos from the gallery without player's permission.

5. At minimum, include a slide at the end directing people to www.trenchwars.org. Some examples:

a. For more insanity visit the player community on Trench Wars www.trenchwars.org

b. Make friends all over the world, then blow them away: www.trenchwars.org

You can incorporate Trench Wars information throughout the video as well.

6. In order to be eligible for the prize of a 20 inch LCD monitor, the video must receive a minimum of 5,000 views as recorded by YouTube before the deadline.

7. The deadline for a 5,000+ view video is October 31, 2009.

8. If more than one video reaches 5,000 views and meets all above criteria, Trench Wars staff will select the winning video based on a combination of originality/creativity, total page views, and best display of Trench Wars information.

9. We reserve the right to cancel this contest or end it early for any reason and at any time including but not limited to:

a. Not enough submissions.

b. All submissions poor quality.

c. No submissions gain 5,000 pageviews as recorded by YouTube.

d. Submissions do not properly display Trench Wars information.

10. We reserve the right to extend or reduce the deadline (or change required pageviews) as necessary based on quantity/quality of submissions.

Good Luck!

This is one of the things tw has started doing to help revive some of the population losses. If you want feel free to submit a video or better yet start your own zone marketing and offer a nice prize to the winner.

So there's absolutely nothing in there regarding the video itself... You really ought to specify that the video has to be original content, created on your own, all content used within should be attributed to its respective (copyright) owners, that it must depict Trench Wars.

Otherwise, you can just steal copyrighted content from others, have it extremely unrelated, and all you gotta do is write trenchwars at the end...

Well if numerous videos get highly watched i think they are all voted on. And hakaku i dont think anyone stealing an entire video is going to win a prize lol.

Umm actually, it can, really easily. Post up a video of Family Guy or some sexually implicit video, and reaching 5k won't take as long as you think. I don't think you realize that first of all, using copyrighted content to market another product is illegal and infringes on the original author's work; and second of all, you're not attracting anyone to the game, you're just attracting them to the video which has nothing to do with trenchwars.

In my opinion, the video should be creative, original, and advertise the game itself. The winner shouldn't be based solely on view count, but also on ratings, comments, and the video itself.

Also, it means that it's better to put up a half-assed video right now, than to work on a video that is actually good, but will take you a few months to finish and upload

I like jabjabjab's video, except I think he could have done much better in moving with the music. You could almost just remove the music from his video or replace that music with something else without modifying anything else and his video would be just the same. This is what I think is the problem. ;)

At 0:22, he should have had a split second's clip from Continuum (without game SFX). The recording should appear to be rumbling/jittering, whether or not it was caused by a bomb or mine (if neither, then the video should be jittered and cropped.

Then "There is only one place to go" without the fade in effect; it should slowly start getting bigger/zooming into the text instead, or just have no effect.

I would get rid of 0:27 completely and replace it with jittered (but fading out) recordings of one dogfight to the next. And with the official Subspace (or "Continuum" using same style as official/original title art for Subspace) floating in the middle of the screen for several seconds and through several dogfight clips. The dogfight clips should only be previewed anywhere from 0.75 to 1.25 seconds each; you don't want to make it too long so that the viewer begins to sink in before being surprised with the next dogfight scene -- you want intensity to enrage and begin to grow and seek a climax point within the view.

The Subspace/Continuum title over the recordings could either fade out or effectlessly make an immediate change to SSCU Trench Wars.

The spinning Subspace logo at the end is very cool however. If only it rotated non-stop and didn't pull to a stop after 180-360 degrees of rotation. :D

And the 2:07 part is a very cool picture/scene as well. It's perfect.

These are just some of my thoughts/opinions/ideas. Might help jabjabjab and other contestants with their videos.

Although fwiw, that Juls videois epic.

Whoah, it is

We should make one for Continuum in general... I'm sure we have some people with the talent to make some nice short videos

Diwa I need a GIF animating of the Symbol continuously spinning if you can plz. :D

Are you kidding me man...?

My computer is 5 years old. It took me probably 12 hrs (probably an over exaggeration, but seriously long time) to render out the spinning Subspace shield. And you want me to do it all over again, 'cause you don't want to take the time to take out the last 15-or-so frames of the animation so it appears to be spinning continuously...?

I was wondering why the contest was for Trench Wars only and not a Subspace/Continuum contest.
