  1. 1. How do you think Continuum (as a whole) should respond to this situation?

    • By SSC allowing (Paid) SSC message advertisments for the zones.
    • By making the Big zones help out by getting bouncerbots in a arena named for the zone.
    • Some third solution that you posted on this topic.

Well, achievements cannot be 'global', cause each zone has its own settings. However, if the core of it can be shared for other zones, interesting things might happen. Perhaps it could record all the achievements you had in each zone.

Is it using mainly a web interface / database? If so, then it would be possible to plug into it from, say, an ASSS module?

However, just a suggestion... I hope the achievement requires more than 30 or 50 kills :/

Unless it's per reset... but make some epic achievements like 5000 kills. You don't want everyone going through the achievements list like a todo list and complete 10 achievements a day blum.gif

It kind of reminds me of that Mervbot plugin with missions in it. Just if you'd want to have multiple zones using the same database/web interface, make sure that the achievements are more zone-specific (since different settings give different advantages or disadvantages), perhaps with a few universal ones (i.e. cross-zone achievements*).

* You could have like 6k kills in cummulative of all zones, or 1k kills per participating zone type of thing.

Aggressive style free advertising could be used to bring more people to the game period. Generate more traffic to download sites, and revamp subspace website and all zones will benefit from it.

Not to bump an old topic, but this is my story of adding to the game...

My friend kept saying, "You're still playing that game?"

He saw me play it so much he ask me if he could play it.

I have four computers here, so I was like sure, you can be on my team.

One day I walked in the door and he was playing it, and I just laughed at him, but he still plays.

If we could get the attention of people on our IM lists, other games we play, and just other friend irl (assuming you have friends irl), that would help out.

Some people like it, some people don't. That's just how it is, but any effort is better than none.

Reasons people on my list won't join up:

1) 2D games? Dude, that's oldschool

2) The unique community politics and drama

I tried to avoid this topic at all costs because I thought it generally wasn't a good idea. Dr. Brain made a good point about it not really increasing any population and it could eventually lead to the destruction of continuum as a whole should it take place. I never really thought about any additional ideas for this one in general jab, but I have a suggestion now that L.C.'s ad campaign is in full swing.

Why not allow any (AUTHORIZED) staff member from their respective zone to "Buy" (like $10) a SSC-wide zone message/Advertisement [whether it be for a big, special event, or just saying come on over], and have 100% of that money go to L.C.'s Ad Fund? This would nullify Dr. Brain's theory and also amplify the chance of getting new members by adding money to the fund. Of course, limiting a "cool-down" on how many times a zone can advertise themselves (like once a day at MAX) would definately be a suggestion to limit too many zone messages that would kind of annoy players at times.

I think some of the smaller zones that are trying to increase their zone's population could grab on to this and use it. It would definitely help the advertisement for their zone in particular, as well as help the ad fund to get more players on continuum as a whole.

Dr. Brain, would you pay $10 to do an SSC-wide message to increase your own zone's population, as well as help L.C.'s Ad Fund to get more users playing the game? Volunteering staff members could also do this on a rotated schedule, maybe 1 staff member a week/every other week (if they're willing?)

Thoughts?

I don't think throwing more money into this game is necessarily the answer. I don't like the idea of Net-wide advertisements. Most people already know other zones exists. They will look at them if they feel like it. If they play one zone, then that means they probably like that zone, so they still play this game. This is the problem, we had a lot of players, they moved on, now we have some of the old players and fewer new ones. Introduction to the entire game is necessary. Maybe special events across different zones would work. Contacting old players and telling others about it is really the only way to do this without wasting money.

SSCU Trench Wars is accepting sign-ups for the Basing World Cup! Sign up now at BWC.SIGNUP.LINK

SSCU Trench Wars is about to begin the Basing World match at X:YZ! Come catch the action!

OTHER ZONE is going to begin the SPECIAL EVENT at X:YZ today. Be there or be square!

Wouldn't this add more productivity to the zones as well?

I really like Samapico's idea of having different achievements for each zone. Once you max out the achievements in your favorite zone, you would be (naturally, NOT FORCED) intrigued to see if you can obtain achievements in other zones.

Another benefit to having achievements is players get a better idea of what each zone is all about. If you were to see "earning 1 million dollars" achievement under HS, you already know that you can earn money and that could be the selling point alone.

Priit has finally responded. If I can get access to the scores db, this would be very possible.

Also, I have no issue doing a billing message about a championship game in a zone's league, or maybe one about a special scheduled event.

I'm talking 1 message, not a bunch of spam though.

The thing that will get the small zones like DS populated is the zown owners amd mods working at it and creating a population base.

The reason DS is dead at the moment is because devolpment stalled and the staff stopped playing.

Bouncing players into dead zones will just annoy them. If you want your small zone populated get the work done, build a good base of insiders and watch the players join. This is what is going to happen to DS over the coming weeks, I'm fairly sure the result will be a small but stable population.
