»jabjabjab Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I have known chambahs over the years, and he suits my views as being anything of a Banger (I like to call BanG Op's Bangers xD). Sorry to forget you on the list! ^_^
rootbear75 Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Chamb gets stuff done, knows a lot of people and players and doesn't take much shit. If you're going to have a level 4, I'd rather him than some TW rookie that knows only TW and nothing SS. -Lpersonal issues aside, i agree
Hate The Fake Posted June 26, 2009 Author Report Posted June 26, 2009 id rather see someone proven responsible from all they have done mmaverick for instance has helped all around ss, from getcontinuum to twcore. He has been a dependable bot coder and has a good head on his shouldersdoc flabby another vet, he has helped with the 3d version of ss and is pretty smart in the dealings of ss Both guys have proved their worth to subspace and would seem as 2 that would make good ops
PoLiX Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Except again, if you read my post, you'd know what cancels them out. Though, keep thinking and wasting time on listing people who'd make good ops. To reiterate for the less literate: Billing Ops handle names, and are typically highly trusted council members, zone hosts, or ssc zone owners/head sysops. BanG Ops handle bans, and as before, are trusted council members or ssc zone owners/head sysops. They are not a tw smod, or a non-ssc server host. Not that I wouldn't trust either of them, but just the reality of the way they've always been chosen, and no doubt always will be chosen.
Hate The Fake Posted June 27, 2009 Author Report Posted June 27, 2009 If you all arent willing to promote someone at least let there be some bot or special help call where any staff from any zone can simply pm it with :bot:!netop playername/ip:reason and have someone be able to help them
»jabjabjab Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Sounds stupid.. Use a bot to tell the netops in aliases without revealing them. dont make a bot just to recommend, sounds like a waste of time to me >.> Bot's are only made when it sounds productive
PoLiX Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 So then the bot would only be for sysops, as they really are the only stable not constantly removed, and smallest population of staff. Which doesn't solve much of anything. Noone (who'd be given access to) is going to sit around and manage the staff list on a bot with lower access than that... And what if they're not on, some staffer gets fired, and decides to spam up the bot. Or multiple. Or some zones hire staff that I personally wouldn't trust with a empty squirt gun, and you want them to have access to this, expecting them not to abuse it. And then you got all the "Please net-ban this person" bs that'd go on. Personally, I think Hoch and MikeTheNose are doing a great job. And i'll reiterate it again and again until it gets through some of the thick skulls here, but there is nothing they are doing wrong, and there is nothing more we can do. We have pushed bang to its limits with Russ, and even had we net-banned him, he'd just hit disconnect, reconnect, and changed his macid and he's back. Its very simple to do, and he'll just continually do it over and over no matter how many net-bans we place. And the issues with Net-Bans, we have MANY players now getting caught in his net-bans. So net-bans have to be placed more carefully, and it causes more headaches. TW Players just need to continue being informed of what is going on, and informed not to change their password, and no staff or op would EVER request them to do so. What needs help, is we need to add another billing op or 2 just with names access to help players getting tricked or screwed over. BlueGoku doesn't seem to be responding to e-mail much, nor in game much, so I have been taking most of the issues I get under my wing and dishing them out to between Ghost Ship and (Edit: name withholding). In all honesty, this needs to be fixed on the zones level before anything else. As SSO's Support FAQ grows...
adizam Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 I think we're looking at hell kitty bandaids for a gun shot wound here. I think we need all of us programmers (honest, hard working, know their stuff programmers) to get together & re-create the login & bang system... as MTN talked about... have an email registration system with a limit of names. Wouldn't prevent all abuse but it would sure as hell cut down on what we've been seeing as of late from retards like Russ & Co.

adizam Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Why? Out of curiosity. I don't see it being a challenge, programming wise... I don't see there being a lack of programmers, talent wise. So why wouldn't you we to look into a solution such as that?
»Purge Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Because all of the programmers would rather devote their time to their studies. If someone payed them, then maybe.
»jabjabjab Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Im sure there are programmers that have so much time like me to get something simple as reporting and archiving reports done, and to forward it to a chat or a list of players / aliases to pm. It's easy, so easy, it's already been coded for other groups of people. (AKA Messagebot in tw) I do not know if MERV has done any of it, but I'm sure something close to that exists. Edit: If you are having problems with names and/or squads being stolen, you can put in a request at http://www.ssbase.com/billing.html - there are some people in-game who can sometimes help too, try PoLiX or Mom in-game - Ghost Ship Problem solved. And im sure all personal problems and drama aside, ive got support on that throughout the community. So whats the problem again? Oh right, theres no -active- "council" to make this decision. Sorry, I almost forgot how Continuum worked for a second.
Kilo Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Wouldn't a prerequisite for such a position be not having personal problems and drama?
CRe Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Wouldn't a prerequisite for such a position be not having personal problems and drama? Should be one or there would be more drama down the road.
Chambahs Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I have personal drama with people that dont matter, people like rootbear.
CRe Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I have personal drama with people that dont matter, people like rootbear. And that is exactly the attitude that people who want to be a netop, shouldn't have.
»Purge Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Indeed, the views of netops should be entirely objective.
Chambahs Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Let me clarify myself. First off, I could careless about being a netop, thats just more people bugging you about things. The only reason I threw myself into the lion's den is because one is NEEDED and it seems like nobody else is stepping up. By all means, the only reason I considered doing this was to help the community, not for my own needs, I could care less about "OMG IM DA NETOP BANZ" power hungry bs. I honestly wasnt even considering lvl1 netwide, I was mainly hunting for lvl4 in smaller zones, since the big zones are all handled, or if thats too much of a hassle, just a lvl4 net. I know a handful of zones that would give me lvl4 after explaining what its for, its just...whats the sense if all the zones arent covered? 2nd off, by my "people that dont matter" quote, I was simply stating that I have no drama with....how do i put this...zone owners, sysops, big staff, big community people, zone hosts, etc. Alot are actually very fond of me believe it or not. 3rd off, ALOT of people could vouch, I dont retaliate with power. Im not going to immaturely hold bias or vindictive opinions when it comes to a professional matter. Whats right is right, and whats wrong is wrong, end of story. On a personal note: Cre, you should know better than that. Out of all people, you are one in the handful. Dont let politics blind or bias your real opinions and natures.
Samapico Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 If anyone is given network-wide l4 powers, it will most likely be one of those who already have l1 bang op, since they are already trusted with network-wide powers (netbanning). Having l4 bang netwide would allow them to get the info they need to place the netban, and kick the guy out.

Then again, we are talking about the SSC biller here.
»jabjabjab Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Mom was hired awhile ago.. This topic's issue is already solved... Just waiting on someone to close this...
PoLiX Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Me and Mom we're fully announced last night by Ghost. So the Netop(s -depended on time of topic) I didn't list, now you know.
