PoLiX Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 there has been some changes to ops/not so well known ops/ops I'm not sure are suppose to yet be listed. Ones I can list: BanG - MikeTheNose and HochNames/Squads - BlueGoku A few other sysops do have access to billing for names and such, but are not considered regular ops. And a lot of those sysops use aliases, IE: Pointman. Heck, if you checked me, sometimes PoLiX isn't on for a few days, though I get on atleast once a day. And I know Ghost was on more recently than 3 days, but again we're dealing with aliases here. Edit: I also have MTN's and one name/squad op I didn't list's phone numbers. So can text them in case of "emergency" now.
»jabjabjab Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Then I suggest hosting a SSCBot somewhere that ops can check for problems, and if be an emergancy, !report (issue):Reason abusing this bot results in blah blah blah ban blah rape. Problem solved.
rootbear75 Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 note 3/5 people are from TW What 3/5? Traineds from EG.Wormhole is from EG.I'm from DS.Only two from TW.I thought wormhole was TW.... sorry my bad..also thought HTF wrote that too... again, my bad.. apparently i cant read.. Also: if ghost is hosting a chat, i suggest using skype.
»freakmonger Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Not that it matters to anyone here but I'm currently in the process of moving overseas and won't have stable internet connection until Mid July.
Hate The Fake Posted June 25, 2009 Author Report Posted June 25, 2009 (edited) Look, how are we the public to know whom to contact if they are aliased. If you all decide that being aliased is the thing to do then maybe institute some sort of ?subspace help call. Where if a mod/staff of a zone uses it, it will msg any net ops online. The problem we have is vulnerabilities in our system to which players are taking advantage of. Edited June 25, 2009 by Hate The Fake
»Lynx Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Don't we have a netop chat for this stuff? Oh yeah, it's super secret. Lawls. -L
Sneakerz Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 As jabjabjab and Polix know, I am more then happy to issue netbans for other zones, and so long as someone gives me the IP of the person, I can do so. Only time it's an issue is when I get asked to issue a ban, and no one can give me an IP. I intentionally gave Polix bang in Chaos so he could place local bans when I wasn't available, i.e. the last time Russ was on Polix gave him a ban, and I changed it to a netban.
»jabjabjab Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 This is true Sneakerz, and I do know this, and glad you are of good help. The problem is that no one was able to go there and *kill them.
Cheese Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 additionally, its common knowledge that there either needs to be:#1: more netops (only trustable ones)-OR-#2: get the netops to actually login and do something since #2 seems highly unlikely, see #1 the current staff is insufficient, and trying to make it seem like it is not is pointless.
»jabjabjab Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Cheese, I got a question for you... Have you ever stepped outside of Trench Wars for once? I mean yeah it's a nice safe haven for noobs and what not. Kindof think its a good place for ya . But if you did not notice, These dead zones are safe havens for hackers, due to the absense of active staff to *kill for netbanning. You're only seeing things from Trench War's perspective. If you look at it from many ways you will notice that there are alot more suited people outside of Trench Wars (if SSC Council decides to hire anyone.) Think of TW as a Royal family in england. They look cool, and everyone likes them, but they arent really the true decision makes for continuum as a whole. I am from Trench Wars, but I don't always speak for them, especially when were talking everyone. -_O
CRe Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Then I suggest hosting a SSCBot somewhere that ops can check for problems, and if be an emergancy, !report (issue):Reason abusing this bot results in blah blah blah ban blah rape. Problem solved. Putting in a bot is a good idea. Put a bot as a sysop in all SSC zones as a SSC requirement and give all L1s access to it. Upon the problem where someone isn't available to kick the bot the bot could make use of sendto and kick the people out itself.
»jabjabjab Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Ahh a botweb. I like that idea. kindof neat. We should nickname it "SafetyNet."
Samapico Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Having bots in every zone with L1 access is ridiculous... It would basically mean anyone who can tell the bot who to ban would have the same powers as a L1 op... ô.o I'm more than willing to give mod access to netops for a bot that can *kill or *silence people; I think that would be reasonable. The bot would only require mod level + VIP.It could also alias the person to tell his IP and MID so the netop can place a netban. That would require the bot to be sysop though. Or more simply... why couldn't netops have BanG all over SSC? Even if that is L4 bang or whatever, just to be able to ?ban , which kicks the person + gets you the IP/MID on the ?banlist. Any kind of abuse would be easy to detect, and the netop would most likely lose his job, so I wouldn't use that as an excuse.
PoLiX Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 This topic continues to intrigue me. How little the public seems to know of the rules, how someone gets netop, etc. Lets clarify all of this. The only Network Operators are Ghost Ship and PriitK. There are BanG Operators and there are Billing Operators. Billing / BanG Ops = Zone Head SysOps or Council Members (Except in rare occasions, an ex-head sysop whos still active in the game). So better to start fixing your lists there. The BanG Operators are in charge of nothing more than cleaning up Network Bans, and in rare cases, placing network bans for zones who have no Level 1 ops on. The case of zones having no bang/staff on, is the zone's own fault. If it continues, imho it is a threat to network security, and should be treated as such. BanG Operators do have level 1 Network wide, and can ban in any zone. The Billing Operators have various levels of powers to retrieve names and squads players have lost. There is more data than just your IP or MacID higher level ops can see. So if you are smart, put in the right information when registering your name. VERY few players do this, so this is why you get screwed in the long run. A correct e-mail, and correct personal informaiton can save you a lot of issues. There has been the idea of adding a head sysop or 2 as lvl4 or lvl3 network wide, but it was only discussed and nothing more went beyond that (as far as I know). Quite a few ops aliases are known by zone sysops. It is your zones sysop's job to handle this, not the players job. If you have an issue, goto your zones staff/upper staff. It is the failure of zones and their staffing that is a large problem SS wide right now. I thought it was only in Metal Gear, but I have found this issue all over lately. We had to deal with shit 10x worse back in the days of twister, so don't overreact here. We are honestly dealing with a small problem in comparison to some of the past issues we had with other cheats/security issues. Most of you weren't around for those days, so I understand. But those who were should remember the billing being crashed, zones being crashed, twister, *super cheats, name stealing zones, etc. etc. The problem we have here is zones who created large dbs of info, not coding secure scripting, and leaving security holes open. Now many players have to suffer with this, and for the time being we need to possibly add a few extra Billing Ops (not BanG ops, again, the main part of this is an issue at zone level & zones need to begin solving it), and have them with low level powers just enough to help players with issues. Once things seem to be cleaning up, and all, we should be good. I also think there should be more NOTICES given to players on this. As quite a few we're confused when I posted on ssforum almost 2.5weeks after the event. So I think again, these 2 zones who had the security holes, should have been more focused on alerting their players and cleaning up the mess, than trying to blame people, or trying to chase the person down. Had players been notified to change their passwords (Mass forum pms, news posts, zone ads, etc.), there would be A LOT less players with names compromised right now. Hell, I didn't know anything happened to the TW or Chaos dbs until my name was stolen and I was told what happened. I think that is complete Bullshit, and a failure on the part of these zones to notify the council, their players, and other players. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone person, but the whole zone staffs themselves. Well, I think I typed enough for now.
Cheese Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 hmm posts have mysteriously disappeared >_> good to know im not wasting my time in ssforums
»Purge Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I've always wanted to have my very own SSC banstick...
Chambahs Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Hmm, looking around the zones list, and on more than half of the zones im looking at, ive either been staff at, or people wouldnt mind giving me mod/lvl4 bang in. Im fairly on alot, and if this is THAT much of a problem, I can take a responsibility if needed? Im sure most of you are like LAWLZ CHAMBAHS NUB LOL, but those of you who -really- know me, would know im responsible enough. If not, I really dont care either, but im just tryin to help out.
»Lynx Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Chamb gets stuff done, knows a lot of people and players and doesn't take much shit. If you're going to have a level 4, I'd rather him than some TW rookie that knows only TW and nothing SS. -L
