Squad dueling mini-league

I would like to encourage a bit of squad activity by putting together a mini-league for group dueling that will take place over a couple of weeks. Squad captains who are interested should sign up here (make sure your squad is on the squad website) and then we can get together and decide some of the format rules and such.

 

Here's what we're looking at right now:

• pub ships (which is why it is a mini-league instead of a full league)
  
• head to head, best of 3 rounds
  
• either first squad to # of kills or each player gets # lives
  
• not sure about roster limits or # of players in game yet, we'll go over that
  
• play each squad 3-4 times over the course of the "season"
  

 

We don't have any web stuff written up for this so unless one of you web developer types would like to keep scores for us it will most likely be on Google Docs or something.

However, I really suggest you use set ships rather than pub ships. Right now, people barely have any money or exp except for a few people who have been grinding nonstop. Maybe just use javelim settings for jav and make some for warbird. It would be a lot more balanced and it would allow for everyone to play and have a chance, not just the grinders.

We could use hspoints if people can come up with good values for all of the items to be used, its just a lot more work to set up

maybe, although then people don't have to make as many decisions and we'll probably end up with a lot of the same ship

Actually no.

If a full duel warbird would cost maybe 250k, the tourney should only allow 150k to each player (prices are just an example). This way, people can customize based on what they think is more important. They won't have enough to buy everything for their ship. Therefore, some people would rather get better sublights, others might prefer better reactors, some people might completely ignore addons and emitters, who knows? This way, the ships will be based on the player's personal needs and not just what the prime dueling ship is.

So building on what omni said, I think we should have the duels take place in an arena with ships that differ from the normal pub ones. Where we are given a set amount of money at the beginning of each match to make our own ships and then so forth.

Oh man I thought I was going crazy before I realized the thread was split. Anyways, what you guys are describing can really only be done with hspoints due to technical limitations we have, and is in fact the reason hspoints was created. Obviously my first choice would be to use that but there is a LOT more time/work involved in setting that up and I (perhaps foolishly) decided that getting something going was better that nothing. If you look at my first bullet point it actually says that this limitation is the main reason I'm calling it a mini-league instead of something more official. So, in a perfect world yes, that is exactly what we would do but we have to decide how much do we really want this to get off the ground. If it absolutely will not work as-is, I'm not going to force anything and we'll just sit around waiting for a while longer. This event is not a finished product and should not be thought of as such, but it will help iron out some of the non-technical issues that may arise before we get to the finished product.

I doubt this mini-league will not attract people

 

-takes too much work

-duelling... so boring lol

-there will be a high "no show"

-there really isn't many good duellers in HS >_> easy to guess which team/squad will win

 

let's have a flagging match instead after a pub game when the pop goes real high. like 8 v 8 $$$$$ with captains

 

-it's easier to set-up.

-make the entry fee really high and the reward $ or exp really high so they -won't rage quit and will battle it to the end

-many people will show

-many good basers.. as long as you have a big ship, you can join

-more fun.. since you can't priv in pub..

 

of course, there would be special rules like maybe:

brick = 5 seconds? why? - a team can take turns bricking.. lol

field = gone or no coffin and 10 seconds for the rest of the fields

why? - uhh lame?

flag time = higher? why? - a team can't reach the flagroom within that time limit from the beginning to the end
