Aceflyer Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 The deadline is rapidly approaching for the California Supreme Court to issue a ruling on the validity of Proposition 8, the voter-approved constitutional change that banned same-sex marriage in California. The Court will rule either next Tuesday or Thursday, or on Monday the week after. What is everyone's prognosis on the way the Court is likely to rule?
Sketter Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 Depends. There are a lot of stuff happing in the background it's hard to tell. But what ever happens will set the tone for the rest of the country.
Aceflyer Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) It will set the tone for the rest of the country? Keep in mind it's not even a ruling on gay marriage directly; it's a ruling on the limitations, or lack thereof, on voters' rights under the California Constitution to change said Constitution via the initiative process. Also, whatever happens with the Prop. 8 decision, it won't change what's happened (or will happen) in Iowa, Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire. It also won't change the reality of reliable polls showing plurality support for same-sex marriage for the first time recently in the States. Edited May 23, 2009 by Aceflyer
