You can say 'connect to an ASSS'
That would be 'connect to an a small subspace server' , still makes no sense blum.gif

but you can't say 'look for a DC'
...And? You can generate a DC, you can probe a DC, you can require a DC... you can do many things with it

This is pretty much off-topic lol

When you say "connect to an ASSS server" you're making some fool's witty acronym the adjective of a subject noun - therefore grammatically ok. If you prefer to make it the subject, you can simply say "I'm going to connect to an ASSS" - also correct, despite many wisecrack jokes your friends will make.

Good day. happy.png

DC current is a bad example, as DC means average or low frequency, making the phrase DC current correct in most instances.

NIC Card or ATM Machine would be better examples.

When an acronym begins with a, e, f, h, i, m, n, o, r, s, x, or/ the indefinite article "an" is used. The acronym "DC" in "DC current" is used as a modifier and therefore it should be both capitalized and used as if it were an adjective to the subject noun "current". Saying "An DC current" is wrong as it can be "A or The" only.

Now, you should go into discretion wars and tell me if you like my tileset so far. happy.png hehe

DC may stand for direct current, but its meaning has changed over the years. DC doesn't *mean* direct current any more. It means low frequency portion or no frequency content, depending on the usage. OK stands for all clear, yet when someone says "OK, clear" you wouldn't challenge them on it.

After all, an active circuit can easily draw an AC current from a DC voltage supply (class A amplifiers are a simple example). If you took the literal interpretation, this would be nonsensical.

Isn't a current source just a voltage source with limited current?

Not at all. You're thinking of a current limited voltage source, which is a protection feature. A current source provides a constant current independent of the load. Voltage sources provide a constant voltage independent of the load.

Hmm - using this logic, NRA really means "red neck gun toting fools", ACLU really means "hellbent leeches of society willing to sell their soul for the cost of a shrimp dinner" and HS really means "highly overcontrolled zone of spoon fed bon bons"

muahaha (oh I'm soooo going to be trolled for that one!)

I did not want this to be splitted. In fact, I don't see a good reason to do so. It's completely offtopic from the forum, and it makes me look like an idiot (or moreso if I already do look like one). Seems like this only happens to me and people who intentionally troll. (I bet someone's gonna say "whats the difference?" to that). It was meant to be a small joke. In fact, it doesn't matter what "DC" means. According to Dr Brain, it stands for the same thing, and that's why it works in the joke. What I truly don't understand is that other people can make a joke like that, and there posts don't get split. It's just like on some zones I occasionally play on (ex. Desert Storm). I do the exact same thing everyone else does, but it looks like bullets hurt me more than them and I keep dying without getting any kills.

Thinking about the joke is the same as killing it.

It wasn't split because of your post, but because there was like 5 posts about the subject... It's not a bad thing to have a topic split, you just happen to have the first post in it. I would have put my post as the first, but I would have had to split my post in two to keep the relevant part in the other topic. People who derail topics for the sake of it get warned; you didn't. The split was not in any way intended to attack or blame you or whatever.

It came from a Discretion forum topic, so it was just left here. It's your forum, move this wherever you want blum.gif Or close it. Or even delete it bomb.gif

ha no. notice he didn't provide leaving it as is as one of the options

anyways I'm working on the anti-cheat crap now, got a week off coming up where HOPEFULLY ill be able to keep working on this and not on grad school projects (well definately not grad school projects but there always seems to be plenty to do at my parent's house). we'll see how processor intensive it is once I finish it. I got rid of PerPlayerData and replaced it with a Playerman module which keeps state about the players (which was scattered around a few modules that used perplayerdata before, now its centralized). Hopefully that'll make the system easier to use.
