1. On 1024x768 the forum looks crowded/crammed. There's too much open graphical space for so little content.

2. When you send a private message to someone, you get a javascript popup that says "undefined" or something (but it still sends the private message).

I agree that the reputation and post rating features are a bad idea. I think they go against the idea of SSForum being a neutral forum for free and open discussion. Rather, these features facilitate 'e-popularity' contests and permit the possibility of people piling up on 'unpopular' ideas.

you would say that.

No, I would say that. Oh wait, I already did: "post rating features are stupid"

I agree with Aceflyer and Hakaku.

+1 rep for that

if things don't get better... I am seriously debating converting back to vBulletin. Been with IPB for 6yrs now, but its getting tiredsome since they went charge.

don't like it. VB and IPB have all the functions and additions we need for special projects we do around here.

I am going to upload a modified style. It shrinks down the forum index and topic list pages. Lemme know what you guys think. It isn't a HUGE improvement, but it is a improvement.

Well hopefully they will fix the issues that are holding the system back.

As far as cosmetics and layout goes though I personally am not concerned. The forum can be re-skinned to solve many issues. As far as elements that will remain go I think it is wise to give it a couple of weeks for people to adapt and make a more balanced decision.

Root, you can mark a board as read from the board index by clicking on the icon

I know... I'm just lazy

I still have that vB license that expires at the end of the year if you need a quick change...

Also: layout is FUCKED THE FUCK up in IE6

Have to resort to using IP.Lo-Fi skin

IE6?

It still exists?

I thought Microsoft had sent some autoupdate that annihilated every existing copy of that version anywhere on anyone's computer or disconnected storage device. Maybe they should have done this...

OH... didn't understand you were talking about... THIS... until now. That is pretty useful!

Microsoft dropped most support for IE6 after the last service pack, and plans to fully discontinue it here I think next year? As in no more security updates, etc.

This was a large topic on IPB forums for a while, but the thing is, IE6 users will begin being hit with messages telling them to upgrade. A lot of websites have already added this message, and more major ones will in time.

Also, we've installed MANY RC1s without any issue, if anyone even noticed, but this one is the worst yet. The betas didn't even have quite as many bugs as this RC1 has had, though they warned us to not install the Betas live, so what do you expect. Put em to the real test, and see what happens.

I'm gonna ride through it, as all the bugs I have posted are being set as Confirmed, so the fact we're finding them is helping fix this forum. Normally a lot of the bugs reported we never see, but we're not only seeing some of the reported ones, but we're reporting ones ourselves. So we're finally one of the unlucky forums who gets to have issues.

this awful new forum skin. I looked for a way to change it to anything else but the best I got was "IP Board Lo-Fi" theme which is actually an improvement since it doesn't burn my old man retinas

Okay I'm not kidding, this skin looks like something I'd design, and that's not a good thing. I don't know why we're rushing into RC1 of anything on such a large forum but please stop the ride I want to get off, if otherwise means being stuck with looking at these colors/fonts/layouts/whatever. From a security standpoint, isn't it better not to upgrade to anything before a final release?

Also, SMF > *.

Ok... because you guys can't seem to read.

WE HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH A RELEASE CANDIDATE AS LONG AS WE HAVE BEEN USING IPB (6yrs and counting)

Sadly we have witness others having issues, but have gotten lucky. Finally, we're the ones biting the bullet.

This skin, IS THE skin IPB is releasing. The skin won't change. So we've either gotta get use to it, or I'll open donations for VB license. I won't use SMF due to the fact it lacks a lot of features we use (especially some admin side), and the fact I sat and watched a buddy of mine crack his way into a SMF forum and take over admin in like 2 mins (IE: why I joked about SSCouncil's forum, cause I know it can easily be done). I was thinking of using SMF for a forum for another project of ours, and he said "hell no" and decided to show me why.

As for IPB and vBulletin, they have their flaws, but have never had issues with them the many years I have used them.

(Couldn't Edit either... it was working before, weird)

(This goes with previous post)

If the server is getting killed by the software, however, that is another story...

By definition, people tend to reject change... Just let them whine they'll get used to it.

I've seen SSForum change many times and I've never cared until presented with this. There's a difference between aversion to change and noticing something's bad. You have guts to label my reaction otherwise.

It is definatlly true that this version is worse then the old one but dont forget this is a RC not the final version. Once the bugs are irond out V3 has a lot more potential and should be an improvment on V2.
