PoLiX Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Somehow, it'd seem SSF was one of the many who got connected into this. Googleing it, have found some phpBB boards along with IPB boards we're effected. IPB Update Note from Admin CP: IP.Board BulletinPM Mass Spamming IPS is aware of issues regarding mass spamming of the PM system over the last few days. We are currently working on a patch for IP.Board 2.3.6 that will add PM flood control support. Keep an eye on this box for updates shortly. So seems they are trying to fix it. Expect MANY more pms from MANY more forums over the next few days. Here at SSF, the name used was: mignulikz
»Blocks Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Rats, I thought someone had actually PMed me.
Samapico Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 There should be a place where we can submit IP adresses, and get them banned from Internet Or atleast have some of the major routers block them directly
JoWie Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Heh got the exact same pm from the exact same user on governmentsecurity.org
Bak Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 There should be a place where we can submit IP adresses, and get them banned from Internet Or atleast have some of the major routers block them directly these people aren't using their home computers. It's people who don't (or can't because it's an illegal copy) update windows and get a virus who are relaying this traffic (which in turn, infects more computers). I got the pm
»doc flabby Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 is there not an option to not allow a user pm access untill they have made a post / 5 posts?
Samapico Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 is there not an option to not allow a user pm access untill they have made a post / 5 posts?I wanted to make a New member group without pm/email rights... but it's kind of tricky to get newly registered members to join that group by default, instead of 'members'
»Purge Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I guess I was fortunate not to receive any of these PMs.
PoLiX Posted April 8, 2009 Author Report Posted April 8, 2009 Currently IPB 3.0 beta has stopped every bot in its tracks that they have thrown at it. The issue, the current release version does not. So I think this will be the next release/fix, upgrading the registration spam control to the same standard as 3.0.
»1587200 Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 The interwebs get hit by a massive spam bot on forums, and I didn't get one I feel so unloved...
leviathanticus Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 i got the spami actually thank them because i havent played continuum in years and am now going to download it :>
Hakaku Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 hmm so this would explain why there was suddenly 325 people on today
Beethoven Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 blah... havent been here in years ;\ So Hi!
Chambahs Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Heres something wierd: All the PM's ive been getting, they all have been labeled "Hi Johnny Blaze". And the -only- place I use that name, is in EG when im playing. Not on any other forum, game, email, nothing, strictly an alias in eg...so....yea...thats weird, and maybe helpful?
a dirty dog Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 wow, I haven't played SS since before my nephew passed away last year in March. Some of you may remember him as link210. I might have to download the game again so I will be able to play when I get a better internet connection. Well, gook luck all, and hope that I get back in soon.
rootbear75 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 thats SO sad... a spam bot actually did what we have been trying to do for years.... also: it linked to "adult friend finder" for anyone who didnt click on it.
TruAnRksT Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 I got the PM too. I had forgotten about this place. How does the bug get into the system? I know these spambots are getting pretty sophisticated. If full registration protocols aren't in place they can register like a normal user and even include avatars and some details in their profiles. Their posts always gives them away though.
PoLiX Posted April 9, 2009 Author Report Posted April 9, 2009 Don't worry. There are 2 plans in the works to boost population. Funny enough, this was one of them, and a bot beat us to it. But eh, not on as big of a population as we plan to reach.
AnacondA Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Whoa Polix, good scam! Now im going to play again wohooo!
Audry Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Rats, I thought someone had actually PMed me. Poor Blox, he dont have any friends want me to spam pm you blox?
