Resolution Problems

Hi, I just bought a new monitor and I can't get SS to change resolution. It gives me low res no matter what the setting. It's wide screen LCD at 1440x900. With Cont. open, I can select a large res, but it doesn't matter. Thoughts? I've updated Direct X & monitor driver. Running XP.

thx,

I saw that earlier. That's not my problem. I am able to see and select all the resolution settings. The problem is, no matter what I choose, I get low res. I've tried this with 2 monitors now and get the same problem with each. each is a flat screen LCD with 1440x900 recommended setting.

Did you try both windowed and fullscreen modes?

Changing settings such as the resolution requires access to the registry, perhaps for some reason you can't change it? Are you an administrator of the computer?

And what is the "low resolution" you get? You can try taking a screenshot with 'Print screen' and checking the resolution of the screenshot in Continuum\screenshots

Perhaps try setting the color depth to 16 or 32 bits, maybe the monitor doesn't support some higher resolutions with only 8 bits. You can find the option in View -> Options -> Graphics

If all else fails, try setting your resolution in your profile rather than in the menu. i.e. profile -> resolution (change default to w/e)

thanks for all the suggestions. unfortunately, none of them worked. :( no matter what i choose, it only gives me 1280 x 800 and then the check mark goes back to 1280x800 on the drop down. aie. here is the screen cap one more time in case anyone else has an idea. thx!

make sure you re-install/update your video card drivers after getting a new monitor. Sometimes the drivers for your card don't right away realize the settings/limitations of your monitor, and installing or updating monitor drivers doesn't always fix it. I typically just download latest drivers, as it is just a reason to/reminder, and fixes it. I have had this issue many times before with LCD monitors in the past with many games, dunno why.
