As Mage keeps loving to point out, population lately hasn't been very high (by Deva standards), especially in the last two weeks. I know part of the problem is not having a permanent bot sit in the zone and tell others when people enter the zone, but it's unfortunately been like that since September or October.

 

Rather, I'm looking for ways to both attract new players and get regular players back in the zone again; make the zone appealing.

 

 

Some of my own ideas (in no particular order) for changes would be:

1. One beef I've got is a suggestion that I had made myself a long time ago: new players gain a starter incentive. Currently, new players receive 20M credits, which is pretty much enough to buy anything right off the bat. Not everyone likes to use their credits, so this number just grows and the credits are wasted unless they spend a lot. If the initial amount was reduced, it might push players to want to gain more credits (for either buying or reccing purposes).

 

2. Add new buyables (such as ?buy scorereset, and other random things) but rotate which ones are available, so that not all buyables are available at once all the time.

 

3. Although soccer is only a second-class element in Deva's gameplay, it might be nice to receive a certain amount of credits when a player makes a goal.

 

4. Increase credits rewarded per kill. (so that you don't just earn high credits after winning a flag game that lasts 3 hours and you gotta leave anyway -- and someone who didn't even play comes on and steals jp)

 

5. Make players who ballkill in centre loose some credits.

 

6. Give credit rewards to entire teams (per kill?) to encourage team play.

 

7. Reduce flag time (or something else that would encourage people to win and play more often. e.g. maybe add a bonus amount of credits, factoring current jackpot and number of players, for winning the game under X amount of time.)

 

Any other suggestions or feedback welcomed.

While reading it hakaku, maybe increase credits for consecuative kills, 1 kill gives you set credits , but if you die and get another kill you get the same 1kill credits.. BUT if you get 2 kills with no deaths, you get more creds, 3kills no deaths .. mroe creds... 4kills, 5kills more creds.. and so on

 

so if you have like an 18spree , youd get significant creds

 

And with more creds being available, maybe make .?buy items more expensive as so you cant just buy it non stop if your on a really high spree

One problem with that, is that it encourages two things: a player to use long-distance weapons (ship 3, 4), and a player to camp. It disfavours offensive style ships like jav and warbird, while encouraging people to run a lot rather than fight head on. Maybe that's just me who sees it this way though.

 

I would rather find a way that encourages team play, since this is afterall, a valuable part of Devastation.

perhaps if it was only in effect if the player was in a radius of the middle .. like just after the safe thinggies

 

not sayin u gota do it either was just putin it out there.

 

 

i usualy never get to 2v2 dogfight anymore... do that many people even play now??

I definitely agree, we need to keep deva warm and cuddly. We need a handful of legit and trustworthy mods(not just tm) that control most aspects of the zone to give it that community feeling like from back in the day. But some aspects need to be controlled by a bot, like the credit system(I miss you) for instance.

 

I also have a few suggestions of my own. 1 being to shrink the map, the number of bases, and condense the gameplay in order to make things more exciting. I believe this is something XDOOM and I both agreed on. And btw, I can make this happen.

 

Another thing that would be nice is to get statistics set up, and getting new things going in pub(and not just having subarenas). I believe a lot of the focus should be on pub, since that's the main attraction so to speak.

Another related issue is that I think we need some mods that can handle business while tm is offline. Tm doesn't necessarily come on every night and in his absence, Deva is dead. Not to mention during the daytime... I know Deva has never really been successful during "normal" hours but the chat is loaded full of people during these times and I'm sure it would be fairly easy to lure them into Deva.

 

I agree. The mods only come when tm is there.

Just goes to show you how much staff, I won't mention any names, actually cares about good constructive input from it's players. The least you could do is acknowledge that this thread exists. Oh and don't forget about the Halloween Map either, 2 days until the big day and no response as to whether or not it will be used.

Well, to be fair, it looks like I haven't even payed attention to my own suggestions :D But if you want me to upload your Halloween map, you actually have to post up the final result, or make it clear that your last update in the other thread 15 days ago wasn't just a progress update.

Yup, that was the finished product.

 

Tm just ignored multiple private messages and considering there is no other way to get ahold of him(that I'm aware of) I posted here. And since I have a schedule to maintain I can't be online at 2am or 3am which is pretty much the only time you can reach him.

Here are some suggestions that I think may potentially be beneficial for Deva.

 

-Shrink map - condense gameplay in order to make things more exciting

-Get statistics set up via devazone.net - there is a module(Direct ASSS Web Stats (DAWS)) Smong made

-Get rid of safes in bases

I started playing Devastation about a year and a half ago when Tm brought me to the zone. I even became a bot mod there for some time and hosted events and tried to bring my squad over. Some of the funnest times in that whole year were during Christmas 2006. School was out and Deva nearly had a 10 vs 10 flag game every night. What really made this a blast though was how we changed from the standard devastation bases that everyone knows to Christmas themed ones. Like a snowman, Christmas tree, and Box present. etc. It added variety to Devastation and Spirit and I think that taking away the Halloween bases is a mistake. We can have normal devastation bases for most of the year, but Halloween and Christmas only come once a year, and personally we should celebrate more holidays by changing the maps from time to time, in my opinion.

 

When I came into Devastation today I was really disappointed to see the maps gone so soon. Not only that but someone messed with the goal. The goal no longer warps you if you try to enter it the wrong way. Last night I was having a blast fighting people inside the goal box because of the auto warp feature it had. Now its just a boring box.

 

I don't know why we stopped doing the holiday themed bases. It's an opportunity for players to get involved with the zone by submitting their bases. And the likelihood of them logging on to play on their own bases doesn't hurt either. Oh, and my attempted Halloween map got put up for literally 2 days, 3 max. What the f?! That took me quite some time to put together.

 

I'm just wondering who else agrees or disagrees with me. My take on .buy warp is this; if you can't take a base with skill, luck, lag, you shouldn't be able to just warp out the opposing team. I do realize it doesn't always warp all base defenders out.

 

This ^. !buy warp is so cheap that it should be on a discount shelf at the salvation army.

And perhaps add koth to pub, so when a base game isn't going on there is some reward for dogfighting in center. Perhaps a koth win could trigger a credit reward as well.

You already know what happened to SOS. Everyone else simply left because real life caught up with them and they don't really care much for SubSpace anymore. Sometimes they show up for old time's sake. It's about the same as wondering what ever happened to No_Remorse.

 

As for the Halloween map, I would have kept it up for at least a week, but someone else took it down right after.

You are probably right. Seeing as the forum is only a medium for discussion, I don't see how the forum structure would prevent anyone from utilizing it. But who knows, some people are OCD.

The Halloween map isn't that big of a deal. I know who took it down(damn you quigy) - he didn't know it was a new map and figured it was a redundant/old deva map. Although, like I was trying to focus on, holiday themed bases/maps have been a tradition in Deva for quite some time now. And what irked me somewhat was the fact that the bases I made for Halloween 2008 were taken down immediately as well by doomy, god rest his soul. So that was the 2nd time that the fruits of my efforts were put to waste. But it's all good, I'm not bitter, although it sounds like it, doesn't it?
