ukm Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Hey, just started getting the problem where continuum.exe continually kills itself and relaunches but never opens. I'm on Windows XP SP3 with patches up to date. I've uninstalled pretty much everything from the system that could be resident in memory and scanning processes, disabled automatic start up of everything non-windows, disabled DEP both by adding continuum.exe to the exception list, and after that didn't work added /NoExecute=AlwaysOff to boot.ini to disable DEP completely Changed the max frames to render ahead to 0 in nvidia control panel. Tested all compatibility modes from continuum.exe properties and tried Run As... No luck with anything so far. Really don't feel like reformatting - anyone have anything else to check? Here is a snapshot of my task manager: http://i40.tinypic.com/1z70adi.jpg I've attached my HijackThis log, of note is that all services listed in the log are set to Manual so they're not starting up when I boot.hijackthis.log
Shock Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 If it just started, then System Restore. I seriously have no idea why this crap always happens.. but, like I stated in a previous topic: Warcraft 3 being installed would make this same thing happen to me. However, plenty of other people could do this and experience no problems. Easy way to check if it's a service, boot in Safe Mode with Networking and play Continuum and see if it works.. That should narrow it down for you.
ukm Posted March 1, 2009 Author Report Posted March 1, 2009 So turns out I had a trojan. Was a bit weird since it was sitting in "c:\windows\win32\svchost.exe" but all the svchost processes that were running were from "c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe". Continuum launches after i cleaned it up though. Note to self: next time actually run a virus scan before uninstalling antivirus for this problem. Unfortunately now I'm getting a new issue where continuum freezes and continuum.exe is eating 50% cpu when I click Play so I still can't f#&$ing get into the actual game ;( Anyone seen this new issue before?
Samapico Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Maybe check the graphic options, try windowed mode or other resolutionsAlso, give it a couple minutes, see if it finally loads
