deadonarrival Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 We had a population for about a week, happening a week or two ago with the "old" setts which then faded out as the new setts came into play. Now, read into that what you like, it may have been to do with the setting change:Alternatively it may be that the first couple of days were 2-4 pop, the 3 days after were up to 16, then the few days after were down to 8,5,3 and 0 again. So yeah, whether it was the settings or just that people had a fun couple of days but couldn't all be on at similar times again, I don't know. One thing we've learned during 17ths coma-period is that there's plenty of people who will play if they see a pop, but most won't bother unless there's 3/4 in the zone already. Quote
Delic Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 The downfall started before any change started to take place Correct me if I'm wrong, but the big change we ALL noticed back then waswhen the mummy map was uploaded (out of nowhere.) Prior to that I had never seen 17th pub completely empty. To me it all began when they started making small changes on the old shipsand then those small changes became bigger changes as the populationdecreased. Quote
Incomplete Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 If that's the case then we need to get all the staff to playt amongst themselves then eventually people will come in to play. This is a horrible task however. Quote
flamingstarch Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 people are still playing? I thought I was the last one to quit. I remember hours of playing in pub with just one person coming in every so often, playing for 15 minutes and leaving. If 17th is coming back I would love to play again although I'm not sure my fingers move that fast anymore. Faither Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 If that's the case then we need to get all the staff to playt amongst themselves then eventually people will come in to play. This is a horrible task however.Surprise, surprise! - That's how you get a zone running. And Sama, you should know better since you've been around for as long as i can remember ^^The sudden change of settings led to a dramatic drop in population only buffered by the hosted event only players which at first (surprisingly) still were enough to attract new players. The drop in population still continued on though (with a slight hey-check-out-17th-new-settings-bonus spike). We've since then seen countless of changes to the even today still unfinished and totally imbalanced shipset with ships that totally lack purpose and function. The change to The Complex then only hastened an unavoidable too fast progressing trend. This event imo perfectly suited the theme 17th was supposedly based on (I might well be the only one with this opinion though)... Bummer the former base players of 17th had already been chased away and the map was too big for low population games. You could hardly see this event running properly which in turn again made players leave. I think everyone in this thread knows what has happened since then. Quote
kentbrockman Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Christ, we can argue about how the zone died forever.. no one will agree. I think it's because they kept changing things - sets, maps, the opal thing and whatnot.. even just minor tweaks.. but then a little bit of a recession in players called for an entire new game mode - complex.. leave it up for 3 months with no one playing it then give up and put the old 17th map up and expect people to just come back.. didnt happen... so they kept changing pub map to different things. and obviously someones gonna reply just to tell me how wrong i am. dont really care. yes, the only way things are going to happen is if people are actually playing pub. been said 1000 times, been tried 100 times by individuals, but its a very slow process. you pretty much need 6 people playing to attract new people into wanting to try it, and you gotta do it for more then 40 minutes. New guy came in last week when we got a pub game started, but we moved on to playing other arenas in 17th, then everyone left, and so did he. Been a long time now, I certainly am not expecting any revival. Quote
Devine Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 WOOT! Anyone remember me! Its corpion! Good job with the new site. Ill return if everyone else play. The only reason I quit SS is due to collapse of 17th parallel. Quote
Requiem. Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 17th died as the maps and ships were changes, and as mods grew more and more into their own social lives and began to leave 17th to its own devices more and more. But, we could argue how it died forever, asd stated before.Argueing solves nothing, 17th should get a few new "mods" and have them fly around and shoto at each other for awhile. That or post a definite forum of "I will play on (datehere) anyone else play withy me?" Quote
larrythehamster Posted March 24, 2009 Author Report Posted March 24, 2009 Requiem - The plan is to get a few organised events sorted... Like 17th "Nights" where it's planned and advertised and stuff... Hopefully soon also Keep checking back. Quote
WhiteSpec Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 <----- SEATO!!, I remember alot of ppl but i havent played in ages... oh, and Old map rocks! Quote
Faither Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Hosting events to get 17th back from the dead is the wrong approach. Quote
kentbrockman Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 we had a nice 3vs3 game going on earlier today. the cost of bounce is nice and cheap now - 2 goals worth of points - so everyone was playing soccer to get the bouncies. a neat idea. it lasted at least a couple hours, then I had to go. Quote
Delic Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 And where does that leave the zone? How do you expect 17th to come back if you have to go all the time... ihih Faither I think they stopped trying to bring 17th back =X Now it seems they just wanna host some events... which I don't mind =P Quote
Incomplete Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) I think I reduced the prices of everything to 1/10th of their actual cost. It was to attract more people and make them play a bit longer. I see that it worked the other night. Edited April 7, 2009 by Incomplete Quote
