iphone Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Hi guys, i've been playing subspace since I got my CD from CompUSA, and I believe the game has more potential than just what I've seen going on in this development world.I would like to bring Subspace to the iPhone so that people can play with the current online community through a new client. If anyone feels like this would be a good way to get such a good game back into the masses, let me know and how you could help. Best, Chris
»Lynx Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 You will be better off making a game that's similar to Subspace for the iPhone that doesn't actually connect to the Subspace servers. I've played around a lot with the iPhone SDK and I have a feeling that getting the game to connect to the servers would be near impossible. Also, with the work involved in a game like that, I think it might be better to use that time on creating a cross-platform client that more people will get a better use of. Just my opinion, though -L
rootbear75 Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 how would you control it or talk to other people?
»Purge Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 A tilt feature would be nice for movement, but the other buttons would be lacking unless you get creative.
iphone Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 controls would have to be a bit like "Blue Attack!", what do you think of lag issues?
Corey Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 If you are going to make this, make it both compatable for iPhone and iPod touch.
tcsoccerman Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 same thing really. iphone apps = itouch apps. (besides that some of the apps are pointless on itouches because an itouch doesn't have 3g wireless).
»doc flabby Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 (edited) One main problem i've had with developing for mobile phones is the extremely closed nature of the platform...without udp support (which many networks block..or only allow it on their services) its very hard to get a 3rd party realtime game like subspace to work. lagwise it would be similar to when everyone was on dial up... because although web connnections are fast they have a high latency Edited February 25, 2009 by doc flabby
