CRe Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 What the heck is wrong with children these days? Quote
Sketter Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 He was 12 at the time he had sex. Wow. I don't' know why but i find this rather funny. He has zero clue what exactly is going on. The general perception is that the caretakers will likely be the grand parents, and making the impact of what they done less then if any of us (people with age of consent) had a child. What i took note is their family seemed to be quite large as is. And with the shot of sex ed in that article, wounder if it is in fact that sex ed failed, or other roles played a key part. But it seems Sex ed is getting criticized a lot. Age is very important when i look at stuff like this. 12-14 or 12-15 (it doesn't say how old she was at the time) may only look 2 or 3 years part, but your brain is still being developed, it does mean a lot. And not to say he isn't at fault, but this story puts a lot of focus on him (and i guess that's easy he looks but it never put the spot light on her. (it did but hardly) While she equally responsible to for having sex, she should have more maturity then a 12 year old. She in fact can be charged with statutory rape. Well... not sure if that applies in Britain. Quote
ESCANDAL0SA Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 i'm glad they decided against abortion. they might not realize how big the situation is but this will make them grow up quicker and it sounds like they're gonna be responsible parents. they may need a lot more help from their families but they'll do fine. and if he was 12 at the time of sex, then she was 14. you can't charge her with statutory rape... they're a 2 year difference and it was consensual. Quote
Bak Posted February 14, 2009 Author Report Posted February 14, 2009 also it's in england so the laws are probably different. for the record the statutory rape laws are ridiculous in that respect (I mean if she was 15 and he was 12 I wouldn't consider that rape). Although I'm having a tough time coming up with a better solution. It seems that either you can properly weigh the decision to have sex or you can't, and that there needs to be some transition period. Maybe like anyone under 16 can have sex with anyone under 16, then 16-18 you have to be within 2 years. And with the shot of sex ed in that articlei don't understand what you mean "Shot of sex ed" ?!? Quote
»Ducky Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 There's absolutely no reason there should be a cut off or 'brackets' if it were for stat rape laws. I have always held an adamant position on this.I see absolutely no difference between a 15 year old and a 17 year old. Age should hold no significance when it comes to sex pairing as long as the people are with-in the same social scene. We have the laws to protect the young from adult manipulation, but if the majority of these couples are with-in the same circle of friends, it's less a matter of sexually deviant behavior than it is simply poor judgement. ESCANDAL0SA Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 i don't get why everybody is making such a big deal out of it in UK. these kids already established that they're gonna take care of their child, and they have full support from their families. it's not like they had sex, had a baby and abandoned it. Bak Posted February 17, 2009 Author Report Posted February 17, 2009 I think it's surprising to see 12 year old father and that's why ppl make big deal. Quote

I agree. I think the principle behind the stat rape laws - i.e., a bulletproof means for nailing manipulative adults - is good, however the implementation and the enforcement of the letter of the law, rather than the spirit of the law, sometimes results in frankly ridiculous situations like 16 or 17 year old boys being charged with stat rape for having a 15 year old girlfriend. In any case this entire topic is irrelevant here. I think this entire regrettable situation indicates that there should be more accurate sex ed, not less, and that perhaps there should be a push for parents/legal guardians to be more involved in making sure their kids don't make mistakes like what happened here. ESCANDAL0SA Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 They fucked up their life. sucks for them. how exactly did they fuck up their life? they may have to work even harder and it may take longer to finish school or do what they originally wanted to do, but they can do it.if YOU had a kid, you would fuck up your life because it's obvious you're immature with nothing going for you. I think it's surprising to see 12 year old father and that's why ppl make big deal. yea but people all are angry for no reason. i saw on the news the other day that there was "outrage" because of this.it's nobody's business. as long as these kids + their families are gonna take care of the child, just leave them alone. Quote
Samapico Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 It is most likely, however, that they had no idea what they were getting into and their parents will do most of the job taking care of the kid. No one at 13 can have any idea of the responsibilities involved in having a child. They can probably take care of a pet dog and think that having a child looks fun, but that's about it Quote
»Lynx Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 At least with all the news paper publications that they're releasing they're making plenty of money for baby clothes and shit like that. Good for them, now all he needs is a drug habit for her first birthday and they'll be able to get her a pony. him, whatever the kid is. Quote

NBVegita Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Agreed Ducky. Did it necessarily ruin their lives? No. My friend and his wife had their first kid when she was 15, but with parental support they made it through. Now granted, she was loaded, and I mean loaded, so her situation is a little different than this girls, but it can turn out ok. Is it a good idea? Hell no. Quote
Dav Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 this is just one element of the degredatiopn of sociaty in the more deprived areas of the UK IMO. We are seeing chilren of this age in many shocking instances of drink, sex, violence and crime and the media coverage would suggest that things are getting worse. People complain about lack of educatioon here leading to these problems, but thats not it.These kids wil;l not liosten to a word of it! social reform is whats needed if we are going to avoidd 13 year olds having kids. Its all well and good that they have said they will look after it, but that is a goven really amd a respomcibility they have given themselves. In this day and age people should know better then to have unprotected sex and know full well what they are letting themselves in for if they do. In this case they did not consider the risks and the resuklt is a loss of their childhood and teenage years. Please dont bring the "in the moment" argument into this, yes people make mistakes but afterwards they should have the common sense to own up to the act and get the morning after pill. Quote
ESCANDAL0SA Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Dav, not many young teens know what the morning after pill is, nor do they know where to get it. the mother is 15, she's past her childhood. a 15 year old giving birth isn't anything new these days. i was 19 when i gave birth, 3 months before my 20th, but i was still young. did i lose my young adult life? no, and neither will she. Quote
Audry Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I'm kinda torn in this kind of situation... I mean, obviously they can take care of this child with their parents support and such. But thats exactly the problem here... what if something happens and they get on their own... I know alot of 15 y/o who would live without parents and do fine, but i know more than would screw up so many aspect of their life. Add to that a baby to take care of... Not every teens are mature at 15. Quote
