op2rules Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Why? Because when everyone knows when the reset will be, everyone will be on when the reset takes place, and the more people who are perfectly equal from the start the better. There is nothing worse than entering the zone, finding out there was a reset 3 days ago you missed, and now everybody is 10x better than you. Is it so hard? To make like a week in advance notice when a reset will be? Or a possible email to everybody when a reset takes place? Quote
Corey Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Nahh... I don't even think brain knows when the reset is, he just comes on and Whabam! resets when he feels like it. Quote

op2rules Posted January 18, 2009 Author Report Posted January 18, 2009 Nahh... I don't even think brain knows when the reset is, he just comes on and Whabam! resets when he feels like it.And this is the main point of my post, I think he should plan at least a week of even a few days would do a world of difference. I find it very beneficial to the zone the sooner we know when a reset will be. It's pretty careless to the entire community of HS to just whabam reset the zone. Quote
Corey Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 No... It's more fun to not know of when the reset is so that you just go in randomly and the zone has reset. And about that people being 10x stronger... It's not hard to start... I reset my account 2 weeks ago and now I'm at a positive rec. Quote
vetta64 Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 I think I should get a personal message telling me when reset will be, I just don't want everyone else to know. Is that possible? Quote
Sharpflame Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 I almost think resets are unnecessary. The zone shouldn't need a reset to bring in new players - that's taken care of already by "newbie" items. If there's a real use for it, I'd like to know what it is. It gets rid of players sometimes (however it is a fact that the population rises - at least temporarily - at resets). Quote
Corey Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Reset is just so that people don't end up with 3m items on every ship and 1m EXP. LOL vetta was that post a joke or not? If it's not then you just made my day. And things will be all cleared up once doc reads this post, in the end op2 you will just agree that not knowing when the reset is, is for the best. Quote
Emit Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 it doesn't even matter? you're just going to play for a week and quit anyways Quote

And about that people being 10x stronger... It's not hard to start... I reset my account 2 weeks ago and now I'm at a positive rec. This is because you play a lot, don't suck as much as a newb, and know what to buy and how to flag, attach, etc right off the bat. And there will have to be some VERY convincing posts to make me think that reset notices are useless... Quote
Corey Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 See that's the thing, you don't play much, so that's why you won't know when the reset is. One way to tell is to go to www.sshyperspace.net I belive Doc keeps that well updated with main changes. Quote
Kilo Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 I'm intrigued by the concept of creating a mailing list when there is a reset. Quote
Sharpflame Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Let's send an email to everything listed on subspace to come play HS right when it resets on February 9, 2009. Oh snap-- did I just reveal the official reset date? Oh noes! Quote
op2rules Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Posted January 19, 2009 Call me no-lifer but I do check sshyperspace.net everyday for a reset, and thanks SF for the reset date, although I am still quite sure what you said is BS but eh I'll give it a shot. Quote
Sharpflame Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Educated guess: Zone news: Saturday, 2/09/08 Dr Brain Reset all money and ships. We're now using a new item set developed by Arnk Dylie. Many thanks to him for putting time and effort into them. Hopefully you all will find them to be an improvement. Saturday, 8/09/08 Dr Brain Ships and money have been reset. Happens to be exactly six months from the last one. I'd give it +/- 30 days. Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Revealing a reset date would cause havoc in the week leading up to the reset. After all, why play? Why not spend *ALL* of your money on fields and bricks? Chaos would ensue. This is why I never reveal a reset, even to staff members (e.g. sharpflame). I always announce it on the forums. That's sort of like the mailing list suggestion. We generally wait until we have some new changes to put in before resetting, as that's the easiest time to see how they'll do. We've got some changes slated for the reset, but they aren't quite ready. We won't reset until they are. Hence, even I don't know exactly when it'll happen, so don't ask. Quote
Suicide_Run Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Notice about reset happens besides having a new topic on forums would be nice but that may lead to more work for staff. Only people that would really benefit from prior notice is those who actually have time every day allocated to playing games. Those people might as well go into Hyperspace everyday to check. Those who say everyone is out classing them either started really late after reset or just giving an excuse. If you are really into HS, you can easily play a ton a day to catch up. if you are a complete noob and start at reset day, it doesn't change the fact that you are still a noob. Quote
op2rules Posted January 21, 2009 Author Report Posted January 21, 2009 This is how I've felt for the past month, why bother play. And even way before that I give 90% of my money away and sold half my ships. I'm not going to bother playing now (or even if now was a month earlier) since I am quite sure that there will be a reset soon. We all know it, just don't know exactly when. I think it aught to be fair to at least TRY giving us a 1-2 day reset notice? I also think that the havoc is not a bad thing since now since you know there will be a reset you can spend all your money however you like and not need to worry about saving up or anything. Also this will inform people who were say, trying to save up for a 3m item or something since they won't have enough time (in 1-2 days) to be able to make it to their goal they might as well get some amusement out of all that hard earned money. Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 You may be quite sure, but I think you're quite wrong. Quote
protocol_ Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 I think it aught to be fair to at least TRY giving us a 1-2 day reset notice?Life isn't fair so why should HS be? Also this will inform people who were say, trying to save up for a 3m item or something since they won't have enough time (in 1-2 days) to be able to make it to their goal they might as well get some amusement out of all that hard earned money. If they are saving for a 3m item, they have probably been saving for at least half of this reset. If that is the case there is no way they would be able to get enough money within the last 2-3 days of the season. Also, there are probably only a select few that even have the needed exp to buy the 3m items. I have around 22k exp and mostly everyone but the experienced players give me 0 exp per kill. Giving us warning would be a waste of time. Quote
op2rules Posted January 21, 2009 Author Report Posted January 21, 2009 no i meant like if u had 2.7 mil and u only had like 1 day to get to 3 mil u might as well use all ur money on fields an bricks n stuff Quote

Bricks and fields going everywhere isn't anyone's idea of fun. Quote
omni Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 no i meant like if u had 2.7 mil and u only had like 1 day to get to 3 mil u might as well use all ur money on fields an bricks n stuff That's the exact reason I don't announce it. Bricks and fields going everywhere isn't anyone's idea of fun. I think it'd be fun. Why not splurge your extra earnings on one last day of messing around? I'm sure when it's that close to the reset no one will be playing seriously enough to care that there are that many fields and bricks. There would be more people on as well, in order to just spend off the last of their money. This, in turn, will lead to more people playing during the start of a reset. Notice how population in HS now is less than 25 people most of the time, with maybe 5 being bots and 15 afk. Most people have lost the motivation to play at all. I myself, as well as many other people I've noticed, have been playing a lot more in other zones, at least until the reset. But how many of these people will actually come back to HS? I'm sure even you Dr Brain will be able to anticipate a reset reasonably within at least a margin of a week or so, give or take a few days. Why not tell people about it? I think hiding the reset date is hurting the zone more than benefiting it. Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Then you've let rumors and lies affect your playing. The reset isn't happening anytime soon. Quote
