Lanowen Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 I have an idea for the client, not sure if anyone has thought about it yet, nor if this is the right place to post it but... Recording being an issue for SS, if you want to record and review a decent video, it has to be at high resolution, and that is a feat in itself. Most recording programs take a lot of resources, or don't even work that well, not to mention no one wants to download a 500+ MB video. How hard do you think it would be to make a built in recorder, which records in a replay type format rather than video, which can be viewed in some sort of playback tool. It would just record times and the data like ship-positions and deaths, bombs, bullets, items and stuff. Would it be that difficult? Can't the game engine be modified easily to read the file instead of getting data from the server and whatnot? I think it would be a great leap in getting this game more public and getting the community together and stuff. Quote
rootbear75 Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 hypercam works fine for most people Quote
Samapico Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 you're missing the point root... He's talking about something that could let you playback an event, and you could still move around as a spectator and watch from any angle. It's a great idea and it's not that complicated. I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned at some point earlier though. Also, the playback file created would be much smaller than a video, and it would be played by the engine itself, keeping maximum quality Quote

Cancer+ Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 That would be sweet. Like an "instant replay". Quote
»Purge Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 You mean like ASSS's gamerecord module? Quote
tcsoccerman Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 Yes, but hopefully more powerful Quote
Acer Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Kinda like halo 3 when it records your games and stuff and you can go into theater and play them back. If you had halo 3 you'd know. Quote

Acer Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 (edited) Meh, if anyone knew me they'd know that I never read all the posts. Edited February 25, 2009 by Acer101 Quote
Bak Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Yes, but hopefully more powerful more powerful how? This sounds exactly like asss' record module. If you want to see instant replay in action, come to Hockey Zone during the league finals (happening now, see http://rshl.org/ci/ for a schedule). Although there may be a few replays during the game, afterwards they always replay all the important plays. Quote
Hakaku Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 In the default ASSS setup, does the record feature actually work? I've never been able to get it to do anything. Quote
»Purge Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Yes, ?gamerecord is the command I think. It worked for me when I tried it using the default setup. Make sure you're using the right parameters. Quote
