Don't you guys get tired when some shit happens that usually involves people getting killed and either a game is related or people blaming the incident due to a game? I sure in hell do.......And this is one recent story about an kid that I feel has major problems.

Daniel Petric, 16 gets home bound due to snowboarding accident.

He wanted to buy Halo 3, parents forbids him to do so.

Daniel does it anyways, parents found out and took the game.

Parents hid game in lockbox with a gun inside.

Kid "breaks" into box.

"Would you guys close your eyes," Daniel Petric asked. "I have a surprise for you."

Kid shoots parents, killing mother and wounding father.

"Dad, I'm so sorry for what I did to Mom, to you and to the family," Daniel Petric said, according to his father. "I'm so glad you are alive."

"You're my son," Mark Petric responded. "You're my boy."

I am starting to feel our society is breeding alot more problematic children then they used to....not to mention I feel the guy said he is sorry just to cause pity and hope that his sentence will be reduced.

I think these things can sometimes be linked to the game (i.e the cases where a game is replicated) but blaming the game is nothing more then a method of blaming society / the child's upbringing.

99.9% of people play a violent game without actively wanting to replicate what they see. The reason is simply because they have the moral thinking to know that it would be wrong to do so.

Then we come to the 0.1% that play a game and decide they are going to replicate it in the real world. The simple fact that they want to replicate what they see should be ringing alarm bells that something is seriously wrong.

Is it the game? answer is no, mentally healthy people are able to distinguish what is acceptable in a virtual environment and the real world. The game is simply a catalyst to bring out the mentality which is why it is so easy to blame. In reality just about anything could trigger the violent behavior!

In your example the game is being blamed, the game is the catalyst to bring out the violent mentality, however the real fact is that the kid cannot handle authority. Question is if it was another item would the same thing have happened? Answer is probably yes, however those who wish to blind themselves from the truth will blame halo, get a rally of people behind them and call for the banning of all violent games.

Video games and heavy metal are the source of all evil in the world.

I know it's true because I read it in some articles written by great reporters who know a lot about video games and heavy metal. I'm even surprised these reporters didn't go on a killing spree yet, with all those bad influences...

I listen to Heavy Metal and don't act on any kinds of violence. Honestly, if you're going to blame something blame yourself. It's your judgement and actions that dictate what you do that is right and wrong, not the kind of music or games you play. Just means you need to learn how to handle your issues in an alterior way.

Yeah, I listen to Heavy Metal as well. The only thing it makes me want to do is speed, drink, and surprisingly relaxes me.

I guess drinking and speeding could cause death..hmm..

Anyways, I'm sure that Halo didn't cause this. It was the fact that he was a spoiled child and didn't get his way. He could have very well done that with a candy bar or some shit.

See, what happened 30 years ago. You didn't see this shit because people actually beat their children. Not abused. Smacked them for punishment. That is what needs to be instilled into children today. Some god damn respect. Kids don't respect their parents because they don't think they are the boss. It's a sad world when kids don't get smacked and instead they are "just acting out, they will be ok." HEY, JUST GIVE THIS KID RIDDLIN, THAT'S ALL HE NEEDS.

Society today sucks.

This is sad, it really is. There was a story like this a couple of weeks ago, long story short the kid was upset with his parents banning him from his xbox, so he ran away, they found him a couple of days later dead.

That's also because most parents buy their kids a xbox or whatever so they can leave them in front of the TV, and they don't even need to educate them or have any kind of activity with them. It's the easy solution for a lot of parents...

Hey, heavy metal do make me agressive like no other... i just cant stand that... errr no i dont considere it music, so i just cant stand all the loud noises. But thats just me blum.gif

Well I doubt the violence in Halo caused it, since from the sound of it, the kid never even played the game yet since his parents refused him to have it. So it's not so much the video game as much as the hype/obsession to possess it which led to him at that point. But really, for the kid to do that, he has some serious issues.

Many studies have shown that while there is a high correlation between video game/television violence and violent activity, the causation seems more likely due to undisciplined or violent kids being more prone to enjoy violent media in the first place.

Also, adolescent crime rate is also at a low compared to the last few decades in the United States, while video game publications and sales have been increasing and increasing. It is likely that news stories about kids who "learned" to kill from video games is merely anecdotal evidence. Consider the Virginia Tech shooting, among others, where Cho was not said to have played any video games.

From the article:

Daniel was homebound for a year with nothing to do but watch television and play video games, Kersey said. It was during that time that he became fascinated with the Halo series and would play them for hours at friends' houses. His father forbade the games, saying that were too violent and sexually explicit.

Halo? Sexually explicit? LMAO

And I suppose lack of video gaming caused this child's video gaming fueled death. If anything should be pointed out, it is the lack of functional parenting in the majority of these cases.

Besides, just because I play Bomberman doesn't mean I'm going to go Oklahoma City Bomber on everybody.

The sad part is....why the hell do you make the lockbox so accessible and put the game inside with a gun? Not to mention, how the hell did the guy get his hands on the key so easily? In Canada, we have to keep guns in a gun safe and keep the guns not loaded.

Well something I expected to happen: "Petric's lawyers put on a very short defense Tuesday - a handful of friends, family and other character witnesses. They based their defense on what they described as Petric's video-game addiction. " Source

This kid seems to have a problem anyways.....playing Halo 3 up to 18 hrs a day. Source

And Corey, his dad had to do with something about him running away from home since his dad apparently helped packed his bags. People kept jumping to conclusion that he was gonna meet up w/ some CoD4 dude and something was gonna happened. He ended dead due to him falling off a tree or something similar.

yep. Noone ever wants to point at the victim and say "you we're a bad parent" or point at the poor "confused" child and say "he just developed some serious mental issues." Instead "OMG, he didn't get his video game so the fact he was mad at his parents means he took the gun and shot them over the video game." Not that maybe he had some other supressed anger he was releasing, cause seriously, game or no game in there, the fact he found a gun and shot them with it, wtf.
