»Lynx Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Some recent statistics show the state of British Broadband Speed - which could also be the reason as to why we own you all at this little 2D game. Note: How to win at Hockey Zone -Lynx
Sketter Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Note: How to win at Hockey Zone -Lynx Some one is a very unhappy child.
Samapico Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 They tell me, if i not make good game video, I will be execute.
Dav Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 virgin media for the win. Speed test came up with 9.8 meg on a 10 meg line a couple of days ago.
Incomplete Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 That the fibre optic connection? I thought Virgin were monitoring what you download and putting their noses in where they aren't wanted.
Dav Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 yeah it is fibre. are you on about that BPI thing where they send you a letter for torrenting? turns out all UK ISPs signed up because the BPI thretend to sue anyone that didn't
Incomplete Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Cool, well I know someone who has been using torrents for a long time and hasn't had any letters through. Do you think they are actually able to monitor every single little thing that you download? Or do you think it's just to scare people?
»Lynx Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 Just make sure that you're forcing encryption, then they can't actually push any charges because it's illegal for them to upload a file to log your IP. Also, if you're lucky enough to own a Mac and use Transmission, there is a very regularly updated list of 'bad sharers' to avoid. P.s. Rapidshare FTW -Lynx

Do you think they are actually able to monitor every single little thing that you download? Or do you think it's just to scare people? I think they have a system that flags the heavy users. Its not all bad though, you get a letter but as far as i know no legal action is taken by the ISP. They did it because the government was saying that volentary action needs to be taken or they will legislate so they took the softest option they could to keep as many people happy as possible.
»Purge Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Change the subtitle to "... Why us Brits fail at the internets".
Audry Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Lynx your sig is super duper.I really dont think so Jon.
Adam01 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Recently I found out that the local substation only supported 4mbps download speed :SI am soo switching to virgin fibre optic.
»Lynx Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 I'm on a 20MBPS Virgin line, and I pretty much always get 20MBPS, but you really need to know how to download properly. Virgin are quick to fine you. -Lynx
Incomplete Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 I have the BT exchange opposite my house. My nets quick.
Adam01 Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Yeah, I am currently on tiscali 8mbps, but tiscali are shit anyway. My exchange is like a mile away. But I live small town owned by basildon crappy council. Probably why it can only manage 4mbps.
»Lynx Posted December 1, 2008 Author Report Posted December 1, 2008 Tiscali were terrible when I were with them too, everything was just going through too many nodes before hitting the exchange, so it sucked arse cheek. -Lynx
Animate Dreams Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Man, I'm switching to fiber... well, they were supposed to hook it up Saturday. The tech couldn't figure out how to hook it up. Wtf, I can figure it out, and this guy gets paid to NOT do it. So hopefully they'll hook it up today. I hope the rest of my experiences with them aren't as bad as this one.
»Lynx Posted December 1, 2008 Author Report Posted December 1, 2008 Virgin is fiber, but it's not fiber right up to your door, so it's pointless fiber in my opinion. -L
Incomplete Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 That depends on where the fibre stops. In most cases it's just at the end of the street so people who live a mile or more away from the exchange would benefit greatly from it.
»Lynx Posted December 1, 2008 Author Report Posted December 1, 2008 In most cases it's the end of the street? Since when? -L
Incomplete Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 Not sure when, I think one of the I.T. guys at work mentioned it. Whether its true or not is a different story.
Dav Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 the fibre line goes into the box that feeds the houses in the street.
