»Swift Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I do appreciate the people that say stuff like that just prove themselves wrong everytime. It's pretty pathetic to watch them type this crap and think it means something to me and everyone else. Your just a person and a player in an old 2D game. Get a life, learn to grow the heck up and maintain a sense or moral since you can't even find the time to learn how to interact like a proper human being.
Synister Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) About time... and yeah, the filter is lame. Any way to turn it off? I see swears as just having a bigger vocabulary. Like turn it off so I can see swears.. cuz I don't mind. Seeing bunch of symbols is kinda re!@#$%^&*ed. Edited November 24, 2008 by Synister
PoLiX Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 Due to popular demand and admin discussion, Bad Word Filter removed and Rule #2 updated. The plan is to eventually deem the removal of the spam lounge, as really, the shit I see in there anymore, ain't even worth wasting the server space. If spam takes over a topic, we'll just delete it, warn, and if need be, ban. That and/or continue as we have, close topics that go too far off course.
Sketter Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I was going to say something else, but I would like to ask. Polix, do you keep track of statistics from last years visitors to this years? Could you post them? Cause sometimes the increase of trolls can also be due to the fact that population of the forums could have fallen and what you have left is the sum of those that have nothing better to do. As of right now when sniffing the general forums, I notice there are quite a few topics that are unrelated to the game, and to some it's a turn off. To be honest good drama and important game topics is what can bring people to the forums. But when you have subjects that are very unrelated, that could push people away, not just the trolls. I think most ignore them then run crying cause of them.Sure they become annoying, and it becomes your job to remove their post, but you seem so overwhelming upset. And if there are declining numbers then your not to blame cause you didn't ban your selected few. It will become inevitable that the game will die, and that means you can't always choose who you want if there isn't anyone left. IMO I feel the games interest has dropped, and thus less to talk about, and less people coming to general for enlightening conversations. Maybe that's why you notice the trolls more. But I think this is way over done. You had a problem with people, you could have just msged them. And just put out a notice that rules have been modified. But this creates drama and people will come-a-looking.
Cancer+ Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 That does sound better. Personally, I'm tired of seeing crap in the spam and I can't really do anything about it because...it's spam.
rootbear75 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) Lmao. I'm gonna stop coming on these !@#$%^&*ty forums anyways, you've already let the majority of the idiots run around freely (myself included), I honestly don't know how you can brag about cleaning up the !@#$%^&* now, you're too late - these forums are already dieing hardcore. HARDCORE. enjoy ur aceflyer, enjoy ur rootbear, enjoy ur other !@#$%^&*ty !@#$%^&* people who contribute nothing worthwhile.fixed and spam is a way to make stupid pointless topics.. yoiu cant make silly pointless topic in gen because its just that, general discussion.the spam lounge is a place where people can go to be silly and stupid Edited November 24, 2008 by rootbear75
PoLiX Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 I've posted them before somewhere, i'll find it in a bit, but we we're on an increase until a recent influx of some annoyances people have been constantly pming me and complaining about. Issue is the administration didn't think they we're worth banning. About the time I last brought it up, was the same time we began seeing a decrease in posting. Not user activity on visiting, that is still on a slight up trend, but just posting. No doubt they got tired of having their threads hijacked. I'll try to post some stats again later. Also I have talked to all of these people in the past about this bs. And they all seem to try and make it sound like they're the victim and promise they'll stop. But then nothing ever changes, so I give up on the 1 on 1. This time, taking care of them all in 1 big punch so maybe the idea gets through to them.
PoLiX Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 Spam Lounge is gone, and X'terr and JDS are banned. If you feel the urge to post pointless crap noone is going to read... http://www.myspace.com or http://www.facebook.com would be good places to start. Or just create a blog at blogspot.com
Sketter Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I'm going to assume between my post and you're last they did something?
PoLiX Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 Highlighted in both images are the last time this topic was brought up. That some people we're starting to get carried away with their bs, and I got quite a few pms complaining about it. But as before, it was decided nothing derastic was needed. I'm going to assume between my post and you're last they did something?Yeah. I found JDS's lovely Pot thread amongst 2 others. Both breaking both old and new rules, and I told him last time his ban was up, anything again and he was gone for good. X'terr said he was done with this place, so figured I'd help him with keeping away.[Nov 23 11:50] X`terrania: Lol, whatever. SSForums has become a cesspool with no thanks to yourself in trying to stop it, you'll notice people with class (myself included) barely browse your forums now anyways. Enjoy the slow decay!Funny though that he got on every day and I ignored many complaints about his bs and he seems to claim he didn't do anything wrong... oh well.
»1587200 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 There's always been a spam/trash/crap forum though.
rootbear75 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Spam Lounge is gone, and X'terr and JDS are banned.1) aw2) yay [20:24] PoLiX: or Root's daily thoughtsnot my daily thoughts, just thoughts...
FMBI Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 My only concern is that, despite the pure idiocy of the people you mentioned (with the exception of root), they're kind of vital to the survival of this forum. Imagining that people are going to start showing up here if you take down a few troublemakers seems to be rather naive to me, unless you're going to do some kind of re-launch of the forums, complete with in-game advertising in the larger zones - in which case we'll be flooded with TW newbs and the like. Which I don't think any of us would enjoy that much. So, er, if I may ask.. what's your plan to boost forum pop without killing the current base?
PoLiX Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 Well for the start, is just hoping those who still visit realize their posts and threads won't be hijacked or spammed by retards. Cause as I said, our traffic hasn't seen much of a drop, unlike our new posts and topics have. Lots of people visit everyday and don't post. People I know use to be some of our most active posters I see on daily in the "People who logged in today" section of the website. Yes, may also be they just don't care to post anymore, but 1 of them I pmed saying hi, said he couldn't believe the stupidity I've let SSF become.
rootbear75 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 also was the Spam Lounge factored into those statistics?
Samapico Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 That's only 2 visitors less... I think it's easy to get 2 new visitors back.
FMBI Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) So you're mobilizing the base, rather than trying to convert undecideds. Gotcha. o_O edit @ Sam - Yes, but those new visitors aren't necessarily going to be making 20 posts a day. I guess it depends on how much you value those 20 posts, although I would say that anything which can at least keep a topic alive short of total derailment would be good. On the other hand, I'm kind of a spammy kind of guy myself, so whatever. Edited November 24, 2008 by Finland My BorgInvasion
PoLiX Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 also was the Spam Lounge factored into those statistics? Sadly... yes. I turned on its post count before I banned JDS and all. Was just curious how many posts he and X'terr had in there, and was then I found the threads. So sad as those stats are, they coulda been worse.
Samapico Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Think of it like your digestive system Sometimes you need to take the shit out to make place for fresh food
PoLiX Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 So you're mobilizing the base, rather than trying to convert undecideds. Gotcha. o_O In time I'll advertise again. But I'm not really doing much, as I'll have to do it all again once 3.0 comes out (installing mods, updating skin, etc.). So nothing worth advertising just yet. But you guys can feel free to post, tell friends about posting and threads here, etc. The simplest advertisement is word of mouth. SSF was born from word of mouth (not in the literal sense, typing of course, but yea), and still lives by such.
Audry Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) pfffft finland dont even try to make me believe that JDS is vital to this forum... i'd spit in your face. Edit: i already miss the spam lounge Edited November 24, 2008 by Audry
