Never had problem with subspace until yesterday. Sub space wont load. I opened process explorer and watched it load after i clicked the exe file. However, It started 2 or 3 copies and continuously closed and reopened in process explorer. I uninstalled, ran virus software, and not virus on computer (ran two of the). I then disabled all virus software, and reinstalled subspace. Now when it runs, it loads only one process of it, and immediately closes. Never get the Splash screen... PLS HELP

thanks

What OS are you running? What version of Continuum are you running? Have you tried disabling your anti-viruses before running Continuum?

He is saying continuum.exe constantly launches & kills itself. You can get out of that endless loop by renaming continuum.exe to something else in your continuum folder.

You can fix it by running continuum in Sandboxie, or using run as in windows.

As I said, I no longer have the endless loop. It now starts and kill itself only once. I tried sandbox and no luck.

Honestly, I cannot understand what you are talking about. It sounds like you are running three explorer.exe. If that is the case, then your computer is messed up.

By process explorer, he means the task manager

already tried all of that...... specifically what files does subspace need to run in windows? what windows files, where can i find that... my next step is to replace those files

already tried all of that......

Did you even check if your computer is running DEP? Did you place Continuum on the list of exceptions?

The problem here is that you have other software that conflicted with continuum. I would hazzard the guess it was an AV program since it has happened to me before, but ever since I stopped using any AV software continuum has behaved fine. I don't think there is any other way to fix it since I've pretty much tried everything when I have had that error. Only solution I had was play continuum in run-as till I formatted anyways. I would suggest posting a list of software you have and see if there was any corrupted registries from bad uninstalls or something that you did before continuum started failing.

Yeah I had already tried everything in that post twice. Just got it working after trying the DEP thing for the third time.

Because these "big important programs" are blocking Continuum. Either you put Continuum in their exceptions list, or disable them before loading the Continuum client (no one said that you had to uninstall them, just simply disable them by shutting down their programs before attempting to play). Should this not work, you might want to consider that something else (such as Windows DEP) is blocking Continuum from starting. For which case we have a whole lovely topic dedicated to it and many other potential issues:

Thank you, I have a good maner of reading rules, FAQs and using search before posting anything into forums. I read all that.

I just cant understand how come other online games start up perfectly with no need of having trouble with other programs, while this SIMPLEST game has so much caprises (pardon my English, I live in Russia)

First of all, we have no control on the game client itself... The programmer has stopped working on the game a while ago and has not shared the source code, so we can't fix it, sadly.

The problem is caused because the client uses some kind of ... unpacker that uncompresses the executable before running it. This makes the game harder to reverse-engineer and adds some level of hack-protection. However, this kind of unpacker is seen as a threat to some anti-virus programs. On top of that, Continuum has some anti-hack features that make it hard to access or modify the program's memory and stuff like that. So the anti-virus tries to kill it, or it just scans it and it kills itself... It causes all sorts of problems.

Anyway, that's why I understand it can be so capricious, I could be wrong on the details, but you get the general idea...

Yes it sucks.

Well, the game is old and PriitK has continually refused to fix many issues that occur with Continuum, so while the game may seem 'simple' in comparison to all sorts of modern games, it was primarily designed for Windows 98 with little improvements to the code since. [Edit: Sama beat me to this :>]

Back to the point though, can you tell me what exactly isn't working? When you double click on the Continuum icon, does it open at all?

If not, then does it appear in your Task Manager (aka Ctrl+Alt+Delete)? Do you get an error message when opening the game?

If yes, is it just the zone names that are appearing in red?

What folder did you install Continuum in? Have you tried installing it in an alternative folder (e.g. My Documents)?

What platform are you running? (98, XP, Vista, 7?)

If XP or Vista, are you an administrator? Or do you have administrative priviledges?

Have you tried running the game in a different account (if you have multiple users on your system)?

What Antivirus/Firewalls are you using?

Have you tried disabling them?

Have you tried adding Continuum to DEP's exception list?
