Ideas for my website?

Alright guys, my website is www.op2rules.net Simple enough right? So anyways, I have a bunch of programs that I still have to put up, game etc, but I want to know if you guys have any more suggestions and things. The main idea of this website is to host useful free game/applications with well... everyone. The only thing that whatever you suggest has to be is either free, or can be put up there with the full version.

 

You should also check the website out anyways It's actually pretty sweet!

Looks cool. What specific sort of people are you looking to attract? Websites are a dime-a-dozen these days, so there needs to be a specific reason people would want to visit and use any given person's personal website/forum.

Now I want to attract people that like getting things for free, and mainly people who are interested and willing to download/try new programs on their computer. Since it's all free there shouldn't be too much of a hastle. Also people who would join my forums/ go on my IRC and build up a small community.

i like the transparent div's/groups. i wanted that on my website, but am not good w/ graphics so when i made it in gimp it saved in a non-transparent supporting format. what image format did you use?

 

Also, at the top it reads " Here you will find things such as free games, handy programs, interesting guides, and ". missing the end. I looked at the source and all the text was there, so it must be getting cut off.

Yeah I am constantly updating it, all the time. Like a lot. A lot a lot. Like already, you can see since you wrote that post like 10 new things have been added.

 

Also the entire writeup at the top is gone now. It was too cheesy anyways. If you are viewing the website in internet explorer, chances are good that a lot of things won't display properly. However yes, the text actually was cut off.

 

Now what am I using? Well the images are .png's, but the entire website wasn't made by me. I use joomla, which is a CMS. Google it. Joomla allows me to create websites and manage content more flexibly, and easily. You can install templates; etc. What I have now is a template from demo.rockettheme.com, and modified a bit. Although I used to make all my websites in raw html, that era is long gone. Joomla is good in some ways since a person who doesn't know html or anything can add and edit content. Probably not make a website, but eh. Knowing a lot helps.

very minor annoyance my eyes just noticed

 

the 'Poll' part... it's like a table, but I see kind of edges around each 'cell'. Chrome and IE7 ... or wait I think I have IE8beta ... anyway, both showed that.

 

Yeah... I think I downloaded IE8 beta a while ago, but I don't use it at all, except for Office Live, which doesn't work with Chrome (not because it doesn't work, but because Office Live says it doesn't work... I hate that... it should at least... TRY... and if it doesn't work we'll see...). Not that I use Office Live usually, our team in a project at school just happens to use it to keep our files up to date.

So, basically, all the browsers I have installed on my computer are beta versions...

Yeh after i posted i saw either some text in the source or the footer had some link, which was joomla related. Did you ever consider drupal? It seems to me that a good comparision between the two would be joomla=subgame and drupal=ASSS.

 

also, chrome doesn't let you send emails in windows live hotmail. the text box is disabled. big bummer..

I never used drupal, but my next website/remake WILL be done in drupal for sure. At least to give it a go. Also the poll and all that is fixed.

Just a little pet peeve of mine...

 

I never really liked how people do the ..."You can download that file here" type of deal. I just don't think it looks very professional. I would put the link BELOW with the actual words. So, you would have a paragraph describing it and then below it would be like..

 

Alcohol 120% v1.9.7 Download
