Aceflyer Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 The Council, not as much. Most the council has no control or say in a lot of what is done. And I've been told by certain people to not even waste my time rejoining it as I can do more without them. Yes. I was more referring to the actual PTB generically, and less to the formal Council itself. I am well aware that power/control is rather unevenly distributed among the formal Council members. At this point, making a formal pe!@#$%^&*ion to the Council or trying to get the Council to formally approve a resolution is often not the best option. I just don't play anymore, so hard to take time and interest in it anymore, my only issue. Doing it, I've done it for years... Keeping my mind on it, I've been doing it for too many years. I can empathize with you there. It is somewhat similar for me and Stellar Frontier.
»doc flabby Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Firstly i appreciate everything people do for this game. I wasnt intending my post as a criticism, its more a expression of my frustration...No one seemed interesting in distributing it....so i stopped working on it.False. You told people not to distribute it by painting yourself giant hobo signs inscribed with something along the lines of warnings and 'it's unsafe', and 'make sure to back up your entire computer before installing'. I'm exagerating here a bit, but you get the point. IIRC Aceflyer was more than supportive of your installer, and so was most other people. So no one else here can be thrown the blame.i dont think it was an unreasonable warning.....I get the point....I'm overly cautious when it comes to these things...I only said back up your continuum folder tho Also I didn't want it being used publically until it was perfect. First impressions are everything. Dont be so hasty, i put it up for testing.....not to be used. Its only been tested on one system running windows xp. I want to know if it works on other systems......and if there are any bugs or issues.... If someone had said to me fix the bugs and make it work and we're seriously consider using it...I would have carried on with it...I'm still happy to carry on with it now if someone comes to me and says that. The problem with Doc and LC and their lack of support of "All their ideas" is they never just come to the right people and sit down and explain everything to us.The age old problem of "who you know" not "what you know" Who are the right people? I don't even know....thats my problem... Edited November 5, 2008 by doc flabby
X`terrania Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 What really bugs me is how when people download the client they always end up with the !@#$%^&*tiest download list full of red zones/0 pop zones (SWE, etc). That definitely doesn't help us at all. I wasn't aware SWE (SSCC Star Wars Empire) showed up in the default download. Perhaps you are thinking of SWZ (SSCX Star Warzone), which generally has 0 pop and is not SWE. I know the difference between SWZ and SWE, thx!

I actually remember putting the installer on getcontinuum.com. But you told me to take it down, remember doc?
»doc flabby Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I actually remember putting the installer on getcontinuum.com. But you told me to take it down, remember doc?Given that it had been tested on about 2 computers at that point it didnt seem like such a good idea to use it I wanted something more coordinated so it could be well tested before we put it on the official site.
Aceflyer Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 The age old problem of "who you know" not "what you know" Who are the right people? I don't even know....thats my problem... Varies from case to case, but overall not too difficult to find out if one asks around. In this specific case, I imagine talking to PoL and myself would probably be a good place to start. I still support the concept of your installer, btw.
Dav Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I also support the installer idea, dows sound very good to me.
Samapico Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Yeah... We could sticky something here to get people to test it And then, when it's tested, Ace can put it on getcontinuum, and polix probably can put it on ssdl

1$hot Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Forward this to whoever the !@#$%^&* *owns* Subspace now. Lynx, Prittk, who the F ever. This game would be in far better shape if it had been left as it was when Jeff left, with the exception of the necessary revisions to prevent cheating. But, leave it in the hands of some dumb *** coder and look what happens. What are there now, like 20 zones? Different physics and configurations for each? What a joke. That's why you hire a DESIGNER to make decisions. Coders are not designers. You code ****. That's what you do. An intelligent DESIGNER would have looked at Subspace and realized that protecting the idea of the original developer and keeping the game simple and streamlined would be the best move. Allowing rampant zone creation and altered physics did nothing but fragment the community and promote lazy *** gamers to avoid zones that require real effort. Gotta love human weakness. Alpha, Chaos, War, Turf, Running. That should have been the end of the story. But it doesn't surprise me. Sitting through a java class that I took for ****s and giggles, I looked around and saw nothing but fail. But of ASSS who knew how to write code but couldn't design for ****. I guess that explains the state of PC gaming. Oh yeah.. one more thing. I am right, and you are wrong. This applies to anybody who decides to come run their mouth in my thread, which will probably be some stupid kid or some !@#$%^&* who doesn't even have a college degree, yet somehow believes *they* are god. And there we have one part of why the human race fails. ---------- L O S E R S. ------------No problem
Animate Dreams Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 ...and then you have the people that we have now, who dont know who people like Polix or Ghost Ship is. oh no, the internet fame we all worked so hard for is going to waste! no one will know my name....
