Smooth Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Hey, I just started DCME and let it auto-update because it said it was essential. Yeah essential to screwing it all up When I open I get an error. When I press enter (hit OK in the error box), the program closes, automatically starts up again and gives another error (see below). Right now I'm going to delete the whole thing and try a fresh install. It will probably work, but I figured I'd post the log anywho. 22-10-2008 11:27:31 --- Drake Continuum Map Editor (v3.2.1) @ C:\Program Files\Continuum\dcme\DCMEbackup starting...263024 +++ OtherInstance 0263024 +++ Settings loadedfrmMain loadingUn!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, path = '' usingDefaultTileset TrueUn!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, DefaultWalltiles = Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, DefaultTileset = Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ InitTileset, tilesetpath= Default usingDefaultTileset True*** Critical error 75 (Path/File access error) in MDIForm_Load at line 830+++ Closing map Un!@#$%^&*led 1 (ID: 0)frmMain(0) unloadedDCME ended successfully 22-10-2008 11:27:36 --- Drake Continuum Map Editor (v3.2.1) @ C:\Program Files\Continuum\dcme\DCMEbackup starting...328560 +++ OtherInstance 0328560 +++ Settings loadedfrmMain loadingUn!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, path = '' usingDefaultTileset TrueUn!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, DefaultWalltiles = Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, DefaultTileset = Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ InitTileset, tilesetpath= Default usingDefaultTileset True*** Critical error 0 () in MDIForm_Load+++ Closing map Un!@#$%^&*led 1 (ID: 0)frmMain(0) unloadedDCME ended successfully 22-10-2008 11:27:38 --- Drake Continuum Map Editor (v3.2.1) @ C:\Program Files\Continuum\dcme\DCMEbackup starting...394096 +++ OtherInstance 0394096 +++ Settings loadedfrmMain loadingUn!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, path = '' usingDefaultTileset TrueUn!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, DefaultWalltiles = Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ NewMap, DefaultTileset = Un!@#$%^&*led 1 @ InitTileset, tilesetpath= Default usingDefaultTileset True*** Critical error 75 (Path/File access error) in MDIForm_Load at line 830+++ Closing map Un!@#$%^&*led 1 (ID: 0)frmMain(0) unloadedDCME ended successfully Quote
rootbear75 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 probably a faulty update patch, or a faulty automatic update coding. they should get an answer to you when they wake up, which will be probably at least 5-6 hours (unless drake lives in europe which i think he does, then it might be 2-4) Quote
Samapico Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Hmmm, you were starting DCMEbackup.exe?If I remember right, dcme tries to delete DCMEbackup.exe when it starts, because it's just a backup created during the autoupdate.But yeah, there are some problems with the auto-update if you were updating from too far back sometimes.I suggest getting 3.4.01 on http://dcme.sscentral.com , in the downloads section. It says Beta, but it's less buggy then the stable versions. There are a few graphical glitches, but you'll notice it's also like 3x faster. Quote

Yes I was starting the backup .exe because the other one vanished I can't remember what error code I got during the update, if any, but sometihng went wrong there. I went ahead and deleted the whole thing and grabbed the first stable version because I figured it might have something to do with that. And it could have been an old version because I don't really mapedit every week There's a small bug which I encounter sometimes when I save a map. I think this only occurs when I try to save and I get a message "there's still a floating selection" etc., it starts saving but the bar stops at either 99% or 100% and I can't do anything and have to force a shutdown of the program. First time this happened I was real, real annoyed because in the auto save folder there wasn't a very recent version of it. Luckily there was a .bak file in the folder of my maps and that was the correct version, so it appears it saves the file first to a .bak, then deletes the old map and renames the .bak? Either way, I love the different backup possibilities of the program. And apart from that small bug your program is brilliant Quote
Samapico Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 When saving, before deleting the current lvl file, it renames it to .bak, then saves the current map to .lvlSo if you save twice, you might have a bit more reliable backup I guess The progress bar stopping at 99% is annoying, but usually you can still do stuff (like click save again, and this time it will go to 100% and disappear)Maybe the combination of the floating selection complicates things... Either way, I'll have to fix that annoying progress bar (or remove it ?). I just have no idea why it doesn't disappear sometimes, never was able to reproduce the bug reliably. I think I'll remove it for now... it's not coded very well anyway. Perhaps adding a status bar at the bottom would be better, and less prone to bugs compared to the current one, which is an independent form shown above all. It does look nice, though... Quote
Hate The Fake Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 the 99 percent thing is annoying but if you give it 2 mins it will go away, so i usually work around it. The floating selection thing happens to me alot, just click yes, it will save and then click anywhere on map with your click and drag icon and resave simple ftw. Lol i did do something dumb thou, when creating my maps i downloaded tile editor, well long story short i opened my maps tiles into editor, edited the tiles and saved. It saved over my map -.- luckily for me i emailed my map to a friend for some advice and just reopened it lol Quote
Samapico Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 the 99 percent thing is annoying but if you give it 2 mins it will go away, so i usually work around it.Clicking again on 'Save' usually does the trick. If you wait, probably an autosave kicks in and gets rid of the dialog The floating selection thing happens to me alot, just click yes, it will save and then click anywhere on map with your click and drag icon and resave simple ftw.That's because you actually have a floating selection on your map... It does save the map fine when it says that, it's just a warning, as in 'anything you have in your selection will not be saved'. Just take the selection tool and right-click somewhere to drop the selection, or hit Delete to delete it. Quote
