Oh. You guys are doing stuff for the server? blum.gif

Also, has nothing to do with this but. At 12 pm est today. I had 154 veiws, I now have 458. o.O

Why not? Maybe because AI is obnoxious and infeasible to write for this game. The best we have seen is something Bak cooked up which plays Continuum automatically but really has no worth beyond flying around and shooting sort of near enemy ships (it reads the radar.) Then it goes and gets itself stuck in the hypertunnel. Server AI is beyond difficult because there is no infrastructure to track weapons--you've probably noticed all fake players are invincible. Even if there was such an infrastructure I bet it would take too many resources to not do detrimental things on this shared server. Edited by Kilo

but seriously, framelag isn't lag

buy a better computer, cheapskate

It still makes you spike in ping, which causes a boot to spec.

no, it doesn't, that's your computer slowing to a crawl because it's bad. the bandwidth required to show the animations is practically nil Edited by Kilo

On the problem of population...

Why not create and implement bot-controlled ships that simulate players? They don't even have to be skilled to facilitate a game. I was thinking that if pop drops below 10 in a pub team, bots join to fill it up to 10, and those bots just attach to any lancasters in their team and then they proceed to go after nearby flags or enemies. If there are no lancasters, they sit in safe.

This entire system functioning only during times that SHOULD be populated (e.g. not 5 am when privs will try to abuse it).

ok gar, when can you have this ready for us...

Tracking weapons/damage is no problem: https://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?t=6757

Well, when you have "no problem" procuring the source so we can add all the things missing, let me know. I've already asked Smong twice about it.

It would take a lot of work to implement, but, if it could be done. A mod would have to watch the bots when they come in. Lest we get something like out of Star Wars Jedi Academy bots, jumping and glitching into the walls. blum.gif

Yay for you.

It was probly you going back and forth on the topic. blum.gif

Nah, not enough time to do stuff like that. blum.gif

I could certainly design a working client-end bot to attach to lancasters and fly around shooting. It might even be fairly simple. I just don't think anyone has 15 computers to run them.

So simple that it has not really been done in 12 years until recently and like I said that was not a great solution.

Please stop talking when you don't even know what you are talking about let alone knowing anything about it.

?

Wouldn't a ship fly into the Hypetunnel and get stuck?

I believe I do know what I am talking about Arnk. I have played Jedi Academy for awhile now.

EDIT: I am talking about Jedi Academy :\

Stop degrading people who are just trying to provide suggestions to make the zone better. Just say that what they're suggesting isn't possible. Don't insult their intelligence.

I flag anyone talking about "bots" in this zone as people have a fundamental misunderstanding of how things work, this is 99% of the time a correct assumption, and it was here too. No offense, but in order for anything useful to come out of this forum we have to let people know when they're on entirely the wrong track.

How does anything useful come out of this forum if you don't explain how they're wrong?

Simply saying "You're wrong" (which comprises most of your posts) doesn't contribute in the least to a better understanding, otherwise you could just delete this subforum and discourage suggestions completely. It may be frustrating to explain to people things that you may find obvious, but generally it only does good to do so.

No, it wouldn't. You can believe whatever you want, but you it doesn't change the fact that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Rofl Dr Brain. Learn to type before insulting me.

Generally, that's what I do. It's when they start defending their idea, and saying they know what they're talking about that I start digging into them.

Please note:

As mods seem to have the utmost problem in reading I will point out.

I was discussing what happens in Jedi Acedemy with the mods, NOTHING to do with this zone except a question about what would happen if the bots went into hypertunnel.

No bots would exist. If a fake player controlled by the server flew into the tunnel then it wouldn't get stuck. It'd just fly right out same way it flew in. You still don't know what you're talking about, since you're still using the word bot and presumably don't understand how the subspace collision detection works (client authoritative).

Now we are getting somewhere.

Le gasp, a mod, actually doing his job and explaining what players are ignorant about, I'm impressed Dr Brain. blum.gif

Thanks man biggrin.gif

You see though, this is the zone development ideas forum, not the Dr_Brain-and-AKD-and-D1-spend-their-limited-time-they-can-barely-if-at-all-use-on-actual-development-teach-basic-subspace-mechanics,-something-that-can-be-learned-on-own forum. Sorry, I'll put in the suggestion for that forum but I personally won't post there. The better ideas to come out of this forum are from people who have spent time to actually consider what is feasible and understand how ctm and asss operate. Sorry, it's too tiring to explain why something isn't possible -- there's some obvious real world analogy but i'm really not feeling creative right now -- so the best I can do is ignore or actively decline.

That in bold was the part I was calling you out on. You don't need to dig the hole deeper, it's just irritating and increasing the probability we aren't going to take you seriously (just being honest here.)
