Stibbymicto Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 I think that Hyperspace has been suffering lately in population (although, Dr Brains attempts to fix this have really helped. Thanks so much!) Hyperspace (and subspace for that natter) seem to be dying almost every single reset. I am not sure if it is just schooling and that continuum does not advertise (unadvisable) But I think we should really consider breaking "Hyperspaces Golden Rule" and go back a few resets, where making money was easy and the bases rocked. I understand that the bases used to be overpowered for the defenders, but, the new bases are so overpowered for attackers, namely base 7. Which has only open good bomb line at the bottom junction of it. I think some old bases should be brought back. Also, Basing has become non-existant. In the past 3 weeks I've played three basing games. I think Hyperspace should try to integrate P/B weekends or make a special ?go basing coding for an area for basing only. Also an area for centering (could be pub) and an area with timed rewards. ?go basegame. flags in the last one, each flag your team holds you get rewarded $ per flag. Based on population. Must be amount of people playing for the system to start. Mods are also online and afk or just not on. One example of this was when someone lamed the flags in the new base 4, and Rare was on... and afk... for 8 HOURS!!!!! (lol)Rivel finally showed up around 5 pm est and started it back up.Mods don't even participate in the game anymore, they just sit and spec and watch for supposed "rule-breakers" which I bet not a single person would waste their time on Hyperspace (-winkwink-) My diagnostic-Consider bringing back the classics--->Bases, money system, flagging Consider using a new arena system---> Time rewards and Consider hiring more mods or atleast a dependable mods. Erm, if any mods read this, I thank you for your time (although I prolly wasted it)Thanks for reading my post-Stibbymicto Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Your post suffers from many misconceptions. Resets have very little to do with population decrease. In fact, around a reset the population has always spiked (minus reset #3, which was an exception due to special cir!@#$%^&*stances and probably before all of your time anyhow). Making money easy is not a solution to population problems. It might boost population in the short term, but would become boring and dull within days or weeks, essentially forcing resets every few weeks, something I've never been willing to do. Bases become popular by being so overpowered that they are used to the exclusion of all other bases on the map. Popular bases are bad. Move on, they're never coming back the way they were. Ever. Basing needs players. Without players, there's no basing. So the fact that basing has been dull is directly related to population being low and will not be addressed as a separate issue. Good mods require good players. Since we have none that show the right balance of maturity, patience and commitment, we can't hire them. I'd rather have no mods than bad mods. Quote
Sharpflame Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 For the base issue: Yes bases have been better, I can't say I like the fact that there's a hollow base and that the credit tags in the sectors were (half-!@#$%^&*ed) removed by a certain useless dev. No, I'm not a dev here but I used to gather bases and throw them on the map, but I haven't done that recently because I'm just not that into Hyperspace anymore. Not making any promises, but maybe someday I'll try to get a really good base set. Classic bases and modern bases have differences, and I think I liked the classic ones more (I'm not talking about the ones that were overpowered). For the mod issue: Moderating on the zone really isn't even that necessary, just for random stuff like flags being stuck. I like to host events but there's really not anything else for me to do for the zone. The zone's got way less trouble makers than it used to - which is good - but leaves the current mods with little to no duties. That being said, I don't think we need more mods. Rivel by himself is good enough. Quote
Kilo Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 (edited) It takes guts for Sharpflame to call someone else useless in dev.And there will always be a need for mods, and no, more than one. Edited October 22, 2008 by Kilo Quote

Haven't seen you on lately, where have you been? Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Wasn't impolite. Just flawed in its reasoning. Quote
Rivel Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Without resets, newbies would never have a fair chance to get good like everyone else Quote
Stibbymicto Posted November 2, 2008 Author Report Posted November 2, 2008 Without resets, newbies would never have a fair chance to get good like everyone elseI never mentioned hating resets, I just reasoned that changing the bases EVERY reset defeats the purpose of certain ship builds... Just saying. Quote
Kilo Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 Lol... you are not the target audience if you aren't going to try new things after resets regardless. Quote
Stibbymicto Posted November 4, 2008 Author Report Posted November 4, 2008 Lol... you are not the target audience if you aren't going to try new things after resets regardless.Ain't that the truth. Quote
aquarius Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 i liked the credit tags too if we're talking about the same ones. but we had to get rid of the >1MB because of download size issues Quote
Corey Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Aquarius, i liked that idea of not having a money system you posted a little while ago, i mean there is probally no way that it would ever be implemented, but it would be nice, it would also improve basing a lot aswell since all ships are maxed. Dr Brain Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Feel free to play practically any other zone. Money is one of the major things that separates us from the other zones, and I've always liked offering something no one else does. Quote
rootbear75 Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 It would be nice if you could implement a quest system of some sort. Quote
Corey Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Yeah, in a special arena, but it would most likely include bots... Quote
omni Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 These jump engines and warp gates make me lag out. Change to old ones please. Quote
Acer Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 These jump engines and warp gates make me lag out. Change to old ones please. Can't you de-activate custom graphics? I don't know if that de-activates general zone graphics or what not. It's just an overload of data being sent from the server to your computer. Get a better internet or just turn things off like MSN, AIM, and Yahoo. Like the basic stuff. But I have been lagging out alot, so it could just be the server like everyone thinks. Quote
omni Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 I don't think you can deactivate those graphics. Quote
Kilo Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Acer must think graphic effects are transmitted as movies over the intertubes, roflz Quote
omni Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 But really Arnk, you should change those graphics. I've heard more than a couple people complain about the lag they cause. Warp gatesTWID DrivesCobaltJump engines Quote
Kilo Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 but seriously, framelag isn't lagbuy a better computer, cheapskate Quote
rootbear75 Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 but seriously, framelag isn't lagya, my comp runs fine w/ the gfx... im on cable Quote

Gar Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 On the problem of population... Why not create and implement bot-controlled ships that simulate players? They don't even have to be skilled to facilitate a game. I was thinking that if pop drops below 10 in a pub team, bots join to fill it up to 10, and those bots just attach to any lancasters in their team and then they proceed to go after nearby flags or enemies. If there are no lancasters, they sit in safe. This entire system functioning only during times that SHOULD be populated (e.g. not 5 am when privs will try to abuse it). Quote
