Dr Brain Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Read any of the forum posts from that period. Things weren't as rosy as people seem to remember. Most of the post were like "put the settings back to before". I've said it a hundred times: Hyperspace will only move forward. We ins!@#$%^&*uted our changes for a reason, and that reason is just as valid now as before. Switching back without acknowledging the reason for change is a recipe for disaster. Quote
Sharpflame Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Well yeah, it's always sucked in one way or another, but maybe next time it changes dramatically, we'll know what's good from before and use it trust me I was thinking of your subject there when I wrote my last post Quote
Emit Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 I understand what brain is saying and respect his mindset for development and always pushing forward. Hyperspace has a lot to show for the work that Brain has put in by being one of the most advanced ASSS zones to date. However brain, isn't the purpose of advancement to preserve ideas that were good and make it even better and fix the mistakes towards perfection and not change the entire infrastructure and take it as you go along? I am quite neutral on the topic of ammo, since it does not affect me as much having to limit my kills to bounty. I much rather enjoy the rushing and the constant adrenaline going from base to base. Especially when you have the 20 flags, but lately I think people just worry too much about the money rather than the whole gameplay of "winning". You play to win instead of money, and when players lose this concept it becomes less fun. The money system is great but don't let it advert you from the true reason to play. As arnk has said before, leagues would require too much effort and work to plan out and organized and I do agree, but doesn't stop the fact that we can allow attempts or at least let people contribute to their zone making it abit more compeitive and fun. I know d1 implemented the squad system on hs site for a reason, to be honest, I think that it is great. I do understand and don't want to neglect the fact that our current staff is not really in the best of situations to spend time to dev since most of you already have hands tied with other works etc. But, I believe there are ways to work around it. For better or worse changing the zone to whatever the population wants might be a temporary solution, but quite frankly, I would just try to improve the game play and general image of the zone to attract players from staying then anything else. vetta64 Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Once people have the money to back up winning then they don't worry about the money and just care about winning, which is about where most of us are at right now. Its like the HS heirarchy of needs, First is money, then you need your centering ships, then your basing ship, and maybe a second or third, once those are out of the way you care more about winning and you can give money to other people and build riduculous 2 mil ships and what not. 9vgnc3eZ01 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 What I liked about the resets before ammo was that there was more chaos in ship sets. Nowadays it's a controlled environment with the ammo system, and generally all items having less impact then they had back in the day. Pretty much every part of the game got nerfed in some way, as if it magically made games better. Now I'm not denying the idea behind it, but nerf too much and usually the game just gets less fun. I mean, there were some changes that made good sense (making bricks consumable). But nerfing turrets? Nerfing bountying? Making repels and bursts consumable (even though rushers still use them anyway), discouraging rushing? OK so bountying may have its reasons. But otherwise, its almost like someone was nerfing just for the !@#$%^&* of it. Again, as if nerfing solves all problems with Hyperspace. Quote
rootbear75 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 i liked it back when the bots were here (except for the fact they crashed almost hourly)but the time right after the bots left were just as good too. mainly cuz thats the time period from when most of the people i played with were here Quote
vetta64 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Someone has misconstued constructive criticism as everyone hating the way it used to be. It was good we just wanted it to be better. Quote
Kat Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 The thing I dont understand is if a majority of people want to BTY and turret, or base. Why do those things keep getting nerfed? Because in the end staff doesn't really give a !@#$%^&* if you like the settings or not, they just don't want you to take it out on them or depop the zone. Quote
Kilo Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 (edited) Majority of people want hundreds of thousands of dollars now, majority of staff understand that it's unsustainable and to run a zone like this the effort:reward ratios can't go off the deep end. vetta64 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Yeah but I dont want hundreds of thousands of dollars for every one. I just want hundreds of thousands of dollars for ME, that should make a difference. Quote
rootbear75 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 i know i'm going to regret asking this butwhat makes you better than everyone else? Quote
vetta64 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 I made no reference to being better than everyone else, I was simply explaining that I am not so concerened with everyone having all the money, just me. There is nothing wrong with that. Quote

Kilo Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 (edited) If people weren't so selfish, I doubt HS would have been changed much since the times people remember as "best" Edited October 22, 2008 by Kilo Quote
