Gar Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Ah, Hyperspace. I used to make whole excel spreadsheets on stats and builds to try to make the best 'secret cool' build possible, until the authorization server went down and I logged on everyone else and realized they all had the same freaking build, and there's nothing cool, secret, or interesting about ships in HS. Every ship has one best build (with a little leeway) and every ship does only one thing well. It's mainly a timesink / money grinding game which is fun only as long as you don't visualize the end-game and realize that once you have all your lame 3 million dollar items your ship still functions exactly the same, just a tiny bit better, and you have nothing left to do. Er, that's why I quit =) Edited November 5, 2008 by Gar
Kilo Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 only poor players copy builds and only poor players think there is a best buildoh good job quitting but still whining on forums, that sure was an original move
Gar Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 (edited) Nobody's whining. It's more of a checking-in to see that the zone with the most potential still hasn't fixed its issues. By the way, number one on the list of issues is a-hole mods that talk crap to players. I'm sure you're aware of that, however. But what I was saying is not that there is a best build or any builds were copied. I'm saying that past a certain point, money-invested wise, it doesn't matter what you do or buy. The range of available power from items just isn't large enough. Sacrificing anything for an exceptional number in a certain stat is a huge waste. You know what I saw on the ships of rich always-online people like unix, f3ar-evil, and that guy whose name starts with a k that basically ran away in center all the time? The same balanced crap as poor people. Carnots and such. This isn't necessarily a bad thing - it means that they were so tough to beat because they were skilled. It just means the ship aspect in HS is mainly just a timesink. There's not much you guys can do though. Guns, bombs, and armor are made only marginally differentiated because of the ability to vulch and spam. Does it matter what bomb you're using if ten teammates are firing bombs? Nope. Does it matter what gun you're using as long as it's yellow and there's a ton of bullets flying around? Not really. Armor, too, won't make much difference when you smash into a wad of bullets. Sublights don't make much difference because of afterburners. Energy makes a ton of difference, but recharge doesn't, thanks to the small minimum-maximum range. And finally, this post won't make much difference, because everyone here has a max two sentence attention span and the mods are completely unable to consider ideas other than their randomly chosen vision. Oh well. Edited November 6, 2008 by Gar
