icevulture Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 (edited) So I did a search of this forum and found that I seem to have the same problem as can be found here -> http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic...82&hl=vista I thought I'd give a few more details to the problem in hopes that someone might be able to tell me what's different about vista that isn't letting me play continuum. First, what I have: - Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x64- Connected via a router and set as the DMZ host (have also tried plugging in directly to the modem with no success)- UAC is off- Windows firewall is off (went to windows services and completely disabled it)- The game is installed to the following path -> C:\Program Files (x86)\Continuum An overview of my network settings can be found below:http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=networksetupck9.jpg Everything is set up to automatically acquire IPs etc etc. The internet works so that's not the issue, it's simply this one older game. I should also mention that continuum worked great on this exact same computer when I had windows xp running on it. I have already tried the "Run as administrator" option and that does nothing for me either. The Problem So the actual problem is that I fire up continuum and I come to the main screen with the list of zones. They're all red, every single one of them. I click the Zones button and try to download the zone list using "auto.subdir.org auto.subdir.net" without the quotes. I receive the following message:Unable to retrieve zone listing. Make sure you are using one or more valid directory server addresses (example: sscentral.subspace.net). Also, make sure you are currently connected to the internet. I thought, "Ok fine I'll just add the zone manually since there's only one zone I would play, which is Hockey Zone." I find out that Hockey Zone's IP and Port is 208.122.59.226:7501 so I input that in the "Add Custom Zone" box. Back to the main screen and still the zone is red. If I click the trace button on the main screen the game is able to ping the server no problem with the average ping time being 40ms. So I can ping this thing but continuum is somehow not able to send packets through windows for some reason. My firewall is off, but I added continuum to the firewall exception list just to be safe. Before completely disabling the firewall service I also opened the advanced firewall settings and made sure that both inbound and outbound packets were fully allowed for the continuum.exe application. I attached the trace to Hockey Zone in case that helps with anything, but I doubt it would. So now what? I'm not sure what the !@#$%^&* to do. There are people out there playing continuum on vista without any problems, and then there's a handful of us who can't get the game to work at all. I'm not too sure what to do next, as I feel like I've eliminated everything that could be preventing this game from connecting directly to hockey zone, or the server list. Any help would be appreciated.hztrace.txt Edited September 26, 2008 by icevulture
Hakaku Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 1. Have you tried uninstalling the entire game, and reinstalling in a different directory on your computer? (e.g. Try downloading from here, and then installing it in your Do!@#$%^&*ents folder) Or have you tried installing it under a different user account on your system? 2. Although I doubt this is the problem, is Windows DEP blocking Continuum? Are you sure you aren't running any firewalls or other programs prior to running Continuum? (read here)

Yea I tried installing it to C:\Continuum because I thought maybe the program didn't like having a file path with brackets in it, but still nothing. I'd try using a different user account but I have user account control turned off. 2. Although I doubt this is the problem, is Windows DEP blocking Continuum? Are you sure you aren't running any firewalls or other programs prior to running Continuum? (read here) I tried setting continuum as the exception and then rebooting. Unfortunately still nothing. Thanks for the suggestions though
CRe Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Sometimes adding as an exception does not work. Try disabling it fully.
rootbear75 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Sometimes adding as an exception does not work. Try disabling it fully.it actually isnt possible to fully disable it. its either for ALL programs except the ones mentioned in the exception box, or essential windows services.

I was talking about a firewall.

Guest Guest: icevulture Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Unbelievable, I just fixed the problem. I downloaded the latest driver for my mobo's built in LAN and that was causing the problem. I instead downloaded an earlier beta version of their LAN and now it works great.
