Aarbear Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Why is it that when I try to access the esc+c menu in my zone, it just *getfiles me an empty server.set file?So right now, when I need to change a setting, i need to *getfile server.set (if I do it like that, it sends me my actual server.set file, not some random empty one) edit it, and then *putfile it back into the arena... It's a pain in the !@#$%^&*, and I just know I'm doing something wrong. Help please. :> Edited September 25, 2008 by Aarbear
Samapico Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 use server.cfg, not server.set the server pretty much takes the .cfg and makes a .set with it
Aarbear Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 I have server.cfg in my zone folder as well. You said to "use" it. How do I use it, what do you mean by that? And should I delete the server.set that is in my zone folder? Also, is this the problem that is making my esc+c menu not function properly? Thanks.
FMBI Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Do you have a template.sss file? Also, what he meant by "use" was "edit the .cfg, instead of using .set" - it takes a little getting used to, and it's annoying to have to wait for an update*, but it's worth it for the added convenience. *one time I spent an hour changing the same variable over and over, because it took 10+ minutes to update, and I didn't realize it was doing anything. Oh, the fun you can have with SS. Edited September 25, 2008 by Finland My BorgInvasion
Aarbear Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) No, I can't seem to find a template.sss file. You know where I can download just that? Also, what should the cfg file be called? Server.cfg? And, how do I make it so that I can edit it through esc+c?Because like I said earlier, right now when I hit esc+c... it *getfiless me and empty server.set for some unknown reason. Samapico Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Just put it in your server folder. And by 'use' it, I meant, if you manually change settings, do it in server.cfg, and if you want to upload settings to a server, use *putfile server.cfg, not the .set. Esc-c will modify things in the .cfg.
Aarbear Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 Ah, I get what you're saying now.Alright, I've got the template.sss file now... but for some odd reason esc+c STILL sends an empty server.set file to me.I tried putting the template.sss in my cont file and *putfiling it. And I also tried just sticking it in my zones folder... if that is supposed to allow me to use esc+c, it didn't work. :/ By the way, I really really appreciate the time you guys put into answer mine/other peoples questions. It's really helpful.
Samapico Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 But is there any server.cfg on the server? template.sss should be in the server's folder, without this, esc-c probably doesn't work. But you need to have a server.cfg too, otherwise... actually I have no idea what happens
Aarbear Posted September 26, 2008 Author Report Posted September 26, 2008 Yeah man, i have both of those in my zone folder... this is why im so confused as to why this isn't working out for me :/Starting to think that continuum just doesn't like me :>Is there anything that I must *putfile?Or anything else I could be missing?Because someone else is hosting this zone for me, I just ftp'd the files. So I guess there is a chance I could be missing something vital... althought I did copy EVERYTHING from what I ftp'd.
rootbear75 Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 best way to update after a putfile for the cfg is a recycle of the arenathat or just wait for it to re-read the file
