XDOOM Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 They haven't been working for as long as the ssforum.net domain has been screwed up pretty much!
»Maverick Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) sscuservers dir server is down.Yes exactly. I don't expect Priitk's directory server to go back up soon. The solution would be to set a different directory server (which is only a configuration setting) or get the program to ping the servers every 5 minutes instead of downloading the server list every 5 minutes (so it keeps showing stats if the directory server is unavailable). I fear that with an alternative directory server the most popular zones aren't listed (because alternative directory servers aren't configured in the zone's server.ini). I'll ask a TW sysop to see if that's true and get it changed if necessary. Edited September 12, 2008 by Maverick

I'll ask a TW sysop to see if that's true and get it changed if necessary. At the moment ssdir.playsubspace.com lists nearly all of the zones (it still has a copy of prittk's dir entries in its memory) I suggest someone syncs from my server in case it goes down. Even better get the zone sysops off their lazy !@#$%^&*es and add the extra directory servers to their list. I was wondering who controls the trenchwars.org domain. They could create a DNS A entry and redirect sscentral.trenchwars.org to a working dir, which would mean new players would be able to get an uptodate zone list.

Aceflyer Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 I recommend using the directory server: auto.subdir.net auto.subdir.org for the reasons outlined in this thread.
L.C. Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) Solution for end-users (Method #1, Individual):Copy and paste the following into your Continuum's Directory Server Address List field in the zone download manager: auto.subdir.net auto.subdir.org sscentral.sscuservers.net sscentral.trenchwars.org ssdir.playsubspace.com warpath.hlrse.net sharvil.nanavati.net dir.cz.sshq.net Then click OK to save the changes to Continuum (clicking Cancel will undo your copy and paste). Solution for end-users (Method #2, Distribution): (Download fix here *click*)Open up Notepad or create a *.txt file and open that up. Copy and paste the following into the file:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Continuum\Options] "DirectoryServer"="auto.subdir.net auto.subdir.org sscentral.sscuservers.net sscentral.trenchwars.org ssdir.playsubspace.com warpath.hlrse.net sharvil.nanavati.net dir.cz.sshq.net"Then go to File, Save As, and select "All Files" for the file format you want to save it as, and then for the filename type dirfix.reg; save the file and execute dirfix.reg from wherever you saved it. Solution for server admins:Under [Directory], set IP= to the following: Please click here for the information you should update your IP= to. Tags will screw up information due to poor text wrapping. Aceflyer Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 L.C.'s post sums it up very nicely. Thanks L.C.!
L.C. Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 You should also always use the other directory servers as if those 2 die then some people will be screwed. If you use the information from my post, then you shouldn't have to worry about that. More directory servers are to be launched in the near future, using Snrrrub's directory server (as it was released a week ago).
