Whether an individual views a zone as skill oriented or not is largely up to that individual's opinion.

There's certainly no objective way of determining whether HS is skill oriented or not, or whether EG is skill oriented or not.

QUAX, of course, is free to play in whatever zone he wants to. There's no need to heckle him just because he may have grown tired of HS.

It is easy to tell if a zone is skill oriented. Have a few top players from EG come and stock ship duel a few top players from here. I can guarantee you EG players will win. Or you can flip it, have a few HS players duel around in EG. Or if you don't believe duel is an accurate measure of skill, you can even try flag games. Either way, HS players will lose to nearly all other zones out there.

This is mostly due to people avoiding challenges that could adversely affect their immediate cashflow.

Pansies.

Meaningless since HS as a zone is not built around the idea of fighting in stock ships. Also, HS' player demographics are pretty different from the player demographics in many other zones, such as EG.

HS is more strategic than EG which places higher importance on tactics

Skill does play an important role. You don't need a good ship to bounty in the center. I've seen bluewyvern get over 500 bty in center, with almost a stock wb.

Agreed D1st0rt.

You do need at least a decent ship unless it's right after a reset. Otherwise you're basically relying on luck and teammates' help to get kills.

Without great difficulty would probably be a better choice of words than easily.

No, if someone was good enough, they could get kills easily with a stock ship.

In a one-on-one setting against a reasonably skilled player with an expensive ship? Or while flying while surrounded by teammates?

It's not hard to get kills with a stock ship. It's very difficult, on the other hand, to get kills independently against expensive ships when you are in a stock ship.

"Stock ships" is basically its own individual setting, as with settings from any other zone. Regardless, as long as the players' ships are equal, players from other zones will win.

Also d1st0rt, it is amazing how much strategy HS players put into their ships to help their team. /sarcasm

However, I do agree with Aceflyer on the point that whether or not you are a skilled player, a stock ship cannot win against another with better items in a fair fight.

12 people have bought summoners so far, so that means at the very minimum 12 people have made strategic decisions to help their team

omni, just because you cannot perform the feat, it doesn't mean no one can. i kept a stock warbird at the end of last reset to prove this point, and I did several times. sure, you won't win as often as if you have upgrades, but it's not impossible, and I didn't even have one basic upgrade that is available to everyone from the start on the ship.

That is probably true most of the time. However, my point still stands. HS is a more strategic zone than most other zones, such as EG, so HS players will focus more on tactics whereas other zones' players will tend to focus more on direct fighting skills. Therefore, HS players may very well be just as skilled as players from other zones, with the caveat that HS players would be more skilled with respect to tactics and other zones' players would be more skilled with respect to direct ('fair') fighting skills.

The other thing to note is that HS' players tend to be significantly younger, overall, than other zones' players. This may also affect the skill level of HS' population.
