Guest clueless Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 I just downloaded Continuum, however I can't seem to connect to the green zones (Trench Wars to be specific). My firewall has been switched off and Continuum has also been added to my exceptions. Any idea what could be the problem to the failure of not being able to connect to the server?? rootbear75 Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 (edited) Your problem lies in the Hopone routers which have always been a problemYou are out of luck until the routing tables shift. Just go to a different zone for now. edit: you also seem to experience problems with your ISP. Contact them and show them the trace and ask why the packetloss is high. 13.7% is nothing to laugh at Edited August 12, 2008 by rootbear75
Testtube Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Actually Root You are incorrect. Most routers/switch gear have the ability to reduce the priority of ICMP ping and other such protocol so they can give useful traffic to get top billing They do this for a number of reasons 1 being it helps mitigate certain types of Dos attacks by moving that type of traffic on the bottom of the totem poll to get responded to (QOS)2 It helps decrease latency by increasing how effiecent the routers/switches handle the important data. Just because you see results like that are no where near a indication of a problem. In addition most of the times you can not diagnose such issues with a traceroute to the server only and no traceroute back. I can !@#$%^&*ure you what is depicted in the traceroute is normal for hopone not because they are screwed up. but thats how they are suppose to act.
Samapico Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 hmm, well is it a coincidence if ALL the people who post here about lag problems have a high ploss count at hopone? :/ So if I get this right, actual data packets don't get 99% lost, but pings and such don't always return because it's not seen as a priority? By the way, clueless, what error message do you get when trying to connect to the zone? "Connection to server lost" after a while?
rootbear75 Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 @TT: well i didn't know that, all i know is that hopone has had problems before, and other people have diagnosed hopone's routers as the problem. basically i'm repeating the same information thats been said time and time again.
