Facebook Virus

For everyone who has Facebook, be warned about a virus being sent via private messages in your inbox. The message will come from someone you know, and will look something like this:

 

LOL. You've been catched on hidden cam, yo:

 

http://fakeYOUTUBEwebsite.com/blahblah

The link will be a mock up of Youtube which is apparently copyrighted by Myspace. Your friend's information and display picture will match that of their Facebook profile. The video itself though will not load. It'll tell you that you need to download the latest Flash player to be able to view it. Actually, anything you click will ask you to download the plugin.

Whatever you do, don't download it though. It'll compromise all your computer's information, passwords, accounts, personal information, and then it'll auto-load Facebook and start sending the virus to others on your contact list. It also fills your computer with warnings/adware/spyware, etc.

If you accidentally downloaded it, some recommended software tools are Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG, HiJackThis, & Safemode.

Right after reading this, i got on facebook, and actually had a diff virus sent to me. Actually phishing i guess.

 

A friend wrote on my profile, "hey check out this vid it made me crack up: __facebook.idaw5w4qt.cn (some link)"

 

If you click it it goes to a facebook like alike and says "must sign in to see the video, but if you look at the url it is faNebook.

i got a message from a friend i rarely talk to

 

it said something like

 

"Some people said some bad things about you. You should go look at it."

 

it was a flash animation link, which redirected me to "faceliebook.com" and at that point my WebForgery/Phishing tool popped up and said "this page is attempting to forge another" yadda yadda yadda...

 

and i just went back there:

I have seen several of these, usually done through hijacked accounts spamming the entire friend list of their victim.

True, but not simply because they "suck" - according to various studies, these sites have a harmful personal and social impact on the individuals and communities they affect.

 

I, for one, don't want to become [any more of] a faceless zombie. I might be overdramatic, but I would say that anyone who had teenage years between 2000 and 2015 is probably going to have a really !@#$%^&*ed up time for the remainder of their lives. After that point, the anti-anonymity backlash will probably permanently cause a regulated cyber-police state for the internet, so we'll have bigger things to worry about.

 

That reminds me, have any of the "ELECTRONIC BOMBARDMENT = MIND EFFECTZ" people done research into cancer and pyschological health problem rates in the Asian cities where they have universal Wi-Fi? It'd be interesting if they were right.. after all, cell phones turned out to be bad.

You have to be really gullible for these to work on you......cause its pretty obvious most of these crap are trying to trick you. Its like people falling for eBay telling them you need to verify their passwords.

Make that 2005, I was 13 in 2000 and back then I never heard of 'social' websites like myspace or facebook before, if it already existed, it wasn't very popular at the time. It was the time of msn chatting I guess, though i never used IMs much (didn't have much ppl to talk to)

 

I made a profile once just because a lot of managers that look at applicants to hire search your name and try to know more about you, so if you write some decent crap on it, it's an advantage too ^^

 

I believe we just got dsl speed in 2000 too, before that it was a 28.8 or 14.4kbps modem connection... to search on altavista and download free mp3s of course, why else would you use the internet back then

Wifi doesn't harm anyone, there has been radio and tv broadcast signals for a lot longer time, which is essentially the same waves. Cellphones may cause harm because the waves are concentrated because you hold your phone to the side of your head (e.g i get a headache after 20min on my cellphone). The broadcast signals are well below the margin of 1w which is the legal limit.

 

Not to forget, cosmetic rays bombard you all the time. If you fly with a plane you'd be more exposed to the amount of radiation than a long time of wifi. (I wonder what protection astronauts use in the ISS, they get the full exposure as the atmosphere blocks % of total radiation)

This kind of crap is also all over instant messagers like Windows Live...

People go on these 'look who blocked you' sites, they enter their email and password, and magically some bot now has complete control of their account and spams everyone on their contact list with links

I still wouldn't trust any of these sites... Imagine how much they get offered $$$ by spamming companies to 'share the data given by the user'. Who reads the terms & conditions anyway, I'm sure they write somewhere that they 'might share the information'. They just won't tell you the information includes your password, but whatever...
