»Ceiu Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Doesn't the iPhone use a custom version of Safari? Wouldn't that mean that the only way it wouldn't work is if the markup is broken to the point where it's rendering incorrectly (aka, wouldn't be an issue if it validated)?
BlueGoku Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 I've only browsed the old site twice, I mean, we haven't used bots in HZ since 2005 =P. From what I remember though, it wasn't very user-friendly at all nor was it organized well. Overall it looked like a pile of crap. Which is fine, because obviously Catid wasn't going for a website award, it was just a storage space for subspace robots. Was the make-over absolutely required? No. Was it needed? Yes. If Ace didn't make this post or was part of this project people would be saying the new site looks much better. Cut the guy some slack, it's not like YOU are the ones spending time working on the site. Jesus.
L.C. Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Personally, I think the old site was quite unorganized; the only way to find something was with Ctrl-F or with a little luck when scrolling. In fact, it was a pain in the @$$ to look at and find stuff. Although this design is a whole lot more organized and easier to understand visually, it still carries on a linear-vertical layout. I think each download should have a button on the left, a description to the right of that button, and the !@#$%^&*le right above both the download button and description. Slight change, not sure if there is any better way to do it, but eh...maybe split it into 2 columns of plugins and files. I think the new design is fine, and over time Rii should look forward to doing complete recodes from scratch occ!@#$%^&*ionally to help improve his knowledge and experience with XHTML. When are we going to go 100% Wiki and skip all this !@#$%^&*?With this logic, everything should be in Wiki, including SSCentral.com and most sites. I thought the hate-posts were forbidden on these forums starting a few months ago? [H]ardForums rule is simply that you write up any kind of reply so long as it doesn't become personal, involves insults, flame, etc. That's just common sense. Where is the common sense on these forums?
»Ceiu Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Alright, god!@#$%^&*it... I was going to just drop it and not !@#$%^&*ing eRage about this week's session of re!@#$%^&*ation, but Jesus Christ some of you people piss me off...(Mods, might be a good time to split this topic... though not to Trash Talk, since I'm about to discuss the dumb!@#$%^&*ery, not trashing it). I've only browsed the old site twice, I mean, we haven't used bots in HZ since 2005 =P. Yes.Ok, we disagree on how much it was needed, but we agree that it wasn't mission critical and probably also agree that there are probably much better things to devote attention to. This is just a simple way to get into the topic without adding anything new but having a reason to participate in the discussion for this little gem... If Ace didn't make this post or was part of this project people would be saying the new site looks much better. No one is saying the site looks bad -- NO ONE. They're just saying it needs to be fixed, because it does; it's wasn't finished before Ace went all ape!@#$%^&* with the release (yet AGAIN). Cut the guy some slack, it's not like YOU are the ones spending time working on the site. Jesus. No, god!@#$%^&*it, no. !@#$%^&*ing, no. No no no, no. No. En !@#$%^&*ing oh, no. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (That's 50 exclamation points. Count 'em, !@#$%^&*es) Seriously, you've got this idiot jumping on every project imaginable half-!@#$%^&*ing some work so he can slap his !@#$%^&*ing name on it. What he's doing is launching these !@#$%^&*ing media campaigns for projects that are ONE HUNDRED !@#$%^&*ING PERCENT unnecessary so he can earn himself some eFame. Don't believe me? Let's do a quick recap for the folks keeping score at home: - SSCouncil ForumsProject Tasks: Manage the SSCouncil forums.Target Audience: Zone sysops and whoever else can work the system to be part of the clique.Necessity Rating: 0.5/10Comments: Let's face facts here: It takes less than 30 minutes to setup and maybe MAYBE another 30 to click around the GUI to add the content. From there, the only work comes in the form of clicking "accept user" and deleting posts periodically. Even the most inactive person in the council could do this job while downing a liter of Jack.Reason for failure: Project was doomed by the fact it was announced to people who don't care and was largely recognized as a power-mongering move. - Subspace CVProject Tasks: Looking FABULOUS!Target Audience: No !@#$%^&*ing clueNecessity Rating: Negative Fourty-Six/10Comments: Apparently this was/is going to be the status quo for staff in his zone. I still don't even know what to say about this.Reason for Failure: http://cre-ss.org/logs/frontend.php?file=acecv.log. - GetContinuum.comProject Tasks: "Manage" the GetContinuum.com siteTarget Audience: Potential new players and newblets who don't have every version of Sniper, Subspace and Continuum burned to CD, backed up to tape and stored on an external hard drive (aka: ASSS).Necessity Rating: 3/10Comments: The site was originally setup by Wonderer and the content was produced by a few others. But that doesn't stop him from slapping his name on it under the guise of "maintenance." Exactly what does that site need? A link to the download and the screenshots and other dynamic content that already exists. Aka: nothing.Reason for Failure: I'm not sure if it's possible to fail when you don't need to do anything. Much like the SSC forums, the site is largely self-sustaining, requiring an update only when a new version of the client comes out (which only happens during the lunar eclipse). - mervbot.comProject Tasks: !@#$%^&*izing an otherwise adequate design by using dated markup and techniques that have been obsoleted around the same time he was born.Target Audience: People who still use MERV (aka: developers).Necessity Rating: 1/10Comments: The old site was basically a bunch of divs slapped on in the order the content was received. Elegant? No. Effective for it's target audience? Definitely.Reason for Failure: The site was deployed before it was ready and the template was !@#$%^&*ed up and used several times over in a static-context which will result in either a half-!@#$%^&*ed site or over 9000% more work. Also, the site was once again announced to people who are about as far from the target audience as you can get without going straight to the high-school cheerleading squad. Disclaimer: He may have other projects, but I'm not a stalker and this is taking too much time so !@#$%^&* it. ... Annnnnnyway, I guess the point I'm making is that you've got this guy jumping onto everything, doing it half-!@#$%^&*ed and slapping his name all over it like he's some kind of hero for what he's doing. Look, it's great he wants to help out (or is putting out that front, whatever). But Jesus Tapdancing Christ AceFlyer, can you go about doing SOMETHING without patting yourself on the back for doing a !@#$%^&*ty job? Meh. I'm too lazy to proofread this !@#$%^&*. This is good enough.
BlueGoku Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Two things: from re-reading his original post, Ace already patted Riistar on the back for doing most of the work. And I completely disagree with you about the SSC forum. We've got something like 99% of the zone sysops signed up on it now. It's -already- served the purpose it was created for, a place where the SSC can easily communicate with zone sysops and where they can easily and safely communicate with eachother. But ya, I'm not gonna get into this whole thing again, as far as the SSC is concerned, though, the forum is serving its purpose.

I Do and will, i just don't have a huge amount of time on my hands right now...Work is taking alot of spare time away, but im sure thats the same for most people here that have other things going on in their lives. And I do admit that i still need to learn and brush up on my xhtml/compilance standards more.

I know I type a lot, but please stop missing the point: - He jumped the gun, again.- He was given advice and constructive criticism without flames, showing how the task should be done.- He gleefully ignored it and basically said it's not his concern. He's presenting half-finished and half-!@#$%^&*ed work. I left it alone until people started defending him for getting solid, helpful advice. There was nothing to defend against and the idea that his at!@#$%^&*ude towards development needed sheltering pisses me off.
CRe Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 I pretty much agree with Ceriums post. - SSCouncil ForumsProject Tasks: Manage the SSCouncil forums.Target Audience: Zone sysops and whoever else can work the system to be part of the clique.Necessity Rating: 0.5/10Comments: Let's face facts here: It takes less than 30 minutes to setup and maybe MAYBE another 30 to click around the GUI to add the content. Actually Ace never asked me to do anything, i was bored and found that forum that you guys had, that id been told about like a month ago.So to evelvate my bordom i made a layout. I never intended to be a webmaster as such, i just uploaded the template via ftp later for you guys to mess with if u wanted to.I figured id give you guys something to start with and develop on. Meh...
ThunderJam Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 I think the old site could have used some organization, so you did some help there. Altho cosmetically, there are some things here that make me still prefer the old site. On the note of jumping the gun and so forth, it really has become a pattern. He announces some much heralded thing, then receieves criticism, then almost every post of his is spent backing away from the initial posts claims or so fourth. Its really not good :/

L.C. Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 (edited) Some of you people are !@#$%^&*holes and should consider the possibility that perhaps Aceflyer is trying to actually help out. I didn't read the chat logs and I won't. I think the chat logs are just proof of being an !@#$%^&*hole yourself. I don't care if Ace failed. I failed in many areas and I still won't give up. Although I have no rightful authority to say this, I'll take my chances: go and create your own forum if you want to flame all the newbs beneath your godlike feet. That kind of stuff doesn't belong here. I don't care if you agree or disagree with anyone here or not, but what you have done is past the boundaries of original rules that have been laid out (and if I'm wrong about "original rules," nobody can deny that this is past the lines). If replies go as far as being anything personal in a negative way, something is wrong -- and that begins with YOU since you're the one who started the !@#$%^&*fest. EDIT :: By the way, if you were wondering I am not angry. I'm in a rather very happy and relaxed mood. Edited August 9, 2008 by L.C.

You idiots started defending him before anyone was even attacking him. He was given constructive criticism and he straight up tossed it aside, showing that he'd rather have his name !@#$%^&*ociated with something than to take the time to do it right. Again, no one attacked anyone under you guys started defending against a non-existent attack. Is it clear yet? Re-read my post (and my previous, almost identical post) if you're still confused.
