»Blocks Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Short answer: no. First off, where is this? My roommates and I are paying $1600/month plus utilities for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment, and we think it's a darned good deal. I would like to see pictures of your apartment because 1600/month is RIDICULOUS. It better jack me off for 1600 a month or at least be in all gold. The average price for an apt in Pittsburgh is between 600 and 800 for a two bedroom apt. We had a 3 bedroom duplex for $750 Housing in certain parts of California is ridiculously expensive. At $533/month per person, it's a lot cheaper than the dorms at my college. I don't have any pictures, but it's not too shabby, not too luxurious either. Nice-sized living room, small kitchen, a good-sized double bedroom and single bedroom. If I could find something cheaper, I would.
rootbear75 Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 (edited) Seems to be a good deal if you can do the workd1 is from my area, so he knows how pricey it is around here...thats what i needed to know except for the part where it triples my commute Edited July 23, 2008 by rootbear75
Hoch Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Moan moan moan. Try living in London At any rate, this so-called deal is riddled with exceptions and/orconditions, or at least as presented in the advertisement. If youwere to seriously consider this offer you would have to query theowner about all of the stipulations. My instincts tell me that it is simply not worth it because of all theuncertainties. I certainly would not commit to anything withoutfirst having a solicitor (lawyer) review the situation. You also needto make sure that the !@#$%^&*le deed is clean and free from errors. At the very least, you should survey the surrounding area and seewhat similar properties are going for. -Hoch
»Lynx Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I'd have to agree with Hoch on pretty much everything there, and there's also the fact that you're going to have to pay for Windows as you're not a qualified AC fitter - and that's not going to be cheap, especially as it will be an out-of-the-pocket expense. Honestly, it all seems like a lot of uncertainty, especially as you've probably not got that much job security, so if you lose your job, you lose the house as you probably won't have anything else to fall back on. Probably best just to rent a small apartment - and in doing that, I'd definitely advise finding somebody that you can live with incase !@#$%^&* goes pair shaped. I don't really know what the situation is where you are, but you can actually find some good places in kinda !@#$%^&*ty areas - that's how it is in London anyway. If the area you live in doesn't bother you much, anyway. -Lynx
Machu Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 If your a guy like me. You need a toilet, a shower, a kitchen and a bed. and thats it. I could live in my car if I had to at a truck stop. Live life where it takes you =/ Now if your going to live with a woman.. your life is going to get a lot more complicated cause they are a lot more materalistic. OH BTW. FIRST POST +1 GODLIKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE At the end of the day. The bare minimum is all you need. And the extra cash you keep you can go and have more fun.
Confess Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 I'd have them give you a list of EXACTLY what they want done, in writing, and state in the contract that that is what you are required to do - period. However, you must understand - that if you need a new roof..you're !@#$%^&*ed - as that will easily land you $50,000 or more, and even if you can 'get a deal', you're still !@#$%^&*ed - because unless they do it for free, even just the cost of Parts + Labor would be more then you could afford. Siding - $10,000Roof - $50,000Windows - $250x how many windowsAC Units - $50/pieceHeating Units - $25/pieceFridge - $500Electricity - $200/month The list goes on....Is this something you can really afford?

rootbear75 Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 this is a non-issue anymore. I'm not getting the house
