That's why the bible also says masturbation is wrong... or so I thought.

But back to the subject of the racism !@#$%^&*... man, seriously, those ASSS would have a heart attack if they went out into the real world for a day. I don't know a single person who doesn't jokingly say something racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. atleast once a day.

Sorry that a lot of them (read about this somewhere before) don't have a real job outside of the NAACP so they must always find court cases to cash in on to keep their organization (and wallets) lined and going.

I'm sure you've heard about Bush's plan to declare several widely used contraceptive methods "abortion", thus paving the way for a ban if McCain is elected and (as he has promised to do) stacks the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade?

"How dare you use a condom? You just killed millions of potential babies!!!"

(insert various re!@#$%^&*ed groups, mainly liberals) try to donate condoms to various african countries every once in a while and get accused of being racist trying to keep black population down or condoms get burned in the name of Jesus

or you get !@#$%^&* like this:

btw, is this in regards to the "morning after pill"? that would indeed be an abortion if it is used after an egg has been fertilized. but i don't care cause jesus hates me anyway.

What the !@#$%^&* is that supposed to mean?

Sub-Saharan Africa has some of the highest birth rates, and lowest economic growth rates, in the world. And unless one of those two factors changes, it's going to be stuck in a slump for the next few decades. (I don't foresee a change in the economic position, due to continuing economic neocolonialism, but that's another topic altogether)

Admittedly, a lot of it is due to rape, but in the majority of cases, it's simply a cultural desire to have extremely large families. Unless we get sex education and contraceptives in there, Darfur's gonna look like an ice-cream stand compared to the rest of the continent in 20 years.

Or maybe it's not just a "cultural desire" but also a lack of easily obtainable, safe, and reliable contraceptives? Especially stuff that women can use, like the pill, Depo-Provera, the patch, diaphragms, cervical caps, or the ring. Edited by Aceflyer

it means exactly what it says.

unfortunately, bush is wasting billions of dollars in Africa too ($48B for next 5 years) i dont think it takes the form of free condoms though. personally, id rather have that money spent in the USA. maybe that's just me.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's because a lot of the people there don't believe in the use of contraceptives and those that do are !@#$%^&* out of luck because the ones that don't won't allow them to have any.

Just a wild stab in the dark, yo.

More free contraceptives to get burnt up in the jesus and/or allah pile? you make the call

It seems that Bush has done some good work, too. Now, I know this forum isn't about personal ethics, but don't you consider it a bit selfish that you can't give some money to people who suffer, even though you don't need it yourself?

No-one !@#$%^&*umes people to start using contraceptives half an hour after they're introduced, but mind you, every person who uses them means (a few generations later) hundreds of people less to be fed.

I say we kill everyone under a certain IQ level.

This will help lower poverty rates and increase the damand for American workers.

We can tackle population control, global warming, poverty, the budget, the economy and health care in one fell swoop.

I agree with Polix. I find it ironic that the people who are trying to !@#$%^&*imilate into America make every attempt to try to segregate themselves at every chance.

We should do away with the term African-American. The only way you're a !@#$%^&* African-American is if you were born in Africa and became a dual citizen in America, regardless of hue of your skin.

Well, Veg, I dunno about you, but I find the term "African-American" slightly more pleasing than most alternatives. Nothing wrong with the word black, but if it makes the media feel happy, they can have their term.

dark, if I may remind you, Bush's stated policy is abstinence only - while he's wasting the money by throwing it in the wrong direction, that doesn't mean any serious contraceptive aid would be wasted. Also, yes, a lot of our geopolitical position depends on keeping Africa's population down - Veg is, in a sarcastic way, correct.

Also,

That's BS. A lot of governments, especially Nigeria's, would happily back the use of contraceptives if they had a foreign source. Weak, unstable, central governments have a much harder time consolidating their authority when the population is increasing at a rate of 2.5% a year. The old tribal concept of "have lots of kids because you need long-term support" is much less attractive when you've got massive slums that breed (hee hee!) unrest and civil war.

Whats wrong with calling an American a plain old American?

The whole concept of being called an "African-American" Segregates you from the rest of America.

True. And yet there needs to be some unoffensive, PC way of referring to these people as a group.

You might as well attempt to do away with the terms "woman" and "female" while you're at it.

What's wrong with calling a woman or a female simply a man or a male?

The difference is that women and men have different chromosomes, men with different skin hues are still men. (and women ect.)

Why do you need to profile someone by their skin color?

Ideally there are differences which will always need to be noted when comparing men and women. The fact that we are fundamentally different and yet the same. Why do we need a way to classify someone, whom by all biological rights is no different than the next person?

Note how a female American is still just an American.

hey so with this story, it's an obvious misunderstanding. He's never played subspace and doesn't watch sci-fi, and hates physics so he's never heard of black holes. The sentence still makes sense if you remove the word black... a hole is like a rut. Now imagine if black hole wasn't a scientific term and someone said that... sounds racist don't it? The guy simply didn't know (not everyone is as nerdy as we are).

I guess it's too much to assume that a city official know basic astrology? In fact don't they teach you that in the 3rd or 4th grade?

^^ What NBVegita said.

It's not like we're talking about (only slightly) more esoteric stuff like charm or dark energy, after all.

I don't think we learn that much astronomy here until the 10th grade or so, apart from the names of the planets. But as far as I know, everyone on my class new about black holes around 4th grade already. Nevertheless, banning a term because it might be a racial slur without first asking what it means is the most re!@#$%^&*ed thing ever.

The reason they're called African Americans is because they don't know what their descent is. Nigerian immigrants are called Nigerian Americans because they're from Nigeria. Haitian Americans are called Haitian Americans because they're from Haiti. Greek Americans because they're from Greece. German Americans because they're from Germany in ancestry. Most Americans have something to put in front of "American", but African Americans (since they were brought in as slaves and mixed up to prevent unity and rebellion) don't know where they're from so they identify simply as African American. It's not that African American in and of itself is a bad term it's just where the African American community is today. That's why I enjoy the company of people descended from immigrant African groups from the Caribbean and Africa better because they don't get all bent out of shape about a joke. What you have to hope for is that somehow African Americans succeed in America in the future. The most important thing would be to have them no longer think they're being cheated (president Obama anyone?) Edited by AstroProdigy

I still don't see how if you are born in America, regardless of where your ancestors came from, how you are simply not an American.

Classifying yourself as anything else is simply self-segregation.

Well most Americans do it and many do it so they can identify their history. Sometimes it is just a label with little cultural relevance with regards to well integrated groups that came here many generations ago(Irish American, German American, English American, Italian American, etc). We live in more of a soup than a melting pot. We all mix together but groups don't disappear and those are the chunks of tomatoes and onions. You find the same thing in other countries like Brazil, Canada, etc.

The problem isn't that African Americans have an extra label in their name its the cir!@#$%^&*stances in which they were brought here and the way their abuse was dragged on and on even 100 years after they were supposedly "free" that makes them have a tough time being proud of that unlike all the voluntary immigrant groups. You find a similar problem with Native Americans, but with more recent African immigrants from the Caribbean and Africa you see the same immigrant mentality we always saw with immigrants.

The problem is unique to African Americans descended from slaves and until they feel like they belong here and can really get ahead this won't go away. That's what makes Obama's candidacy interesting because it creates all that enthusiasm among black people and some white people. If a black man is allowed to run the country by a white majority then who do they have left to blame? I think the effect is canceled out largely if not more than enough by lingering racism (especially among older generations) so you'd probably have a backlash among black people if he loses blaming racist white people for never REALLY letting them get ahead. That may not be rational, but it is how it is.
