Dav Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=31896 it links to a fox news report. anyone else think this is just getting silly now? Black hole is a scientifically recognised term and in this case used in a valid context, however people take offence to it. next children wont be able to sing ba ba black sheep... Quote
SeVeR Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I laughed and then felt really sad. That idiot should lose his job as a commissioner or whatever the heck he calls himself. He can sing from the roof-tops that he's been fired for being black, but being black isn't an excuse for being an idiot. Really pisses me off actually... !@#$%^&*. Quote

OMG, we cant say "!@#$%^&*" but they can say "cracker" etc. etc. etc words like "!@#$%^&*" have a valid reason for debate IMO (Though it is getting tired and actually making words like this more offencive rather then addressing the problem) Things have got to the point now where a term that has absolutely no racial connections at all is getting called into question because it refers to the colour black and can be used in a negative context. I wonder when someone is going to publicly declare that enough is enough so people can actually have a proper debate about things that matter without getting sidelined bu this PC bull!@#$%^&*. Apparently here in the UK a "blackboard" had to be called a "chalkboard" because "black" is racist. Apparently the simple fact that is is black is beyond the people that come up with these ideas. I think a whiteboard has an alternative name as well now though I cant remember what it is. Quote
FMBI Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 PC is one of those things that I really, really, hate. As Dav said, as long as it isn't actually meant to be negative (such as "N"), there is no reason to censor a word. It's always annoyed me how the very organizations that spearhead the fight for rights also apparently feel compelled to waste their time on nonissues that hurt their popularity. Still, at least we have the satisfaction of knowing that, someday, our (American) Congress will succeed in banning films like Schindler's List. The problems don't all come from the left, people. Samapico Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Too bad I can't open the link because ... dunno... DNS is !@#$%^&*ed up... I can visit sites by IP only Or sites I recently visited might work too... It's intermittent... annoying. Anyway. This is ridiculous. I lol'ed and got angry at the same time. Black is a !@#$%^&*ing color, not a race. This very text font is black OMG IT'S OFFENSIVE. They'll eventually rewrite history as well. The black plague? And there are probably a !@#$%^&*load of other historic events or periods that are called 'The black '. I think we should all make efforts to be as offensive as possible to fight this PC. Quote
»Lynx Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Yeah, well anybody with any common sense knows that this whole argument has been completely !@#$%^&*ised. However, as the first stone has already been thrown, many more will follow. All it takes however, is for you to not follow the trend set by the idiots and to continue as usual. They're not going to arrest anybody for calling it a blackboard instead of a chalkboard - and a waitress isn't going to faint if you ask for a black coffee, but if somebody does, I believe it's almost your freaking right as a human being to use your intellect to show them how freaking re!@#$%^&*ed they're being. It's a truly laughable matter - and I've actually debated this at my college debating society - actually... I didn't debate it, we all laughed at it, and swiftly moved onto something else. I generally like this kind of news - it doesn't effect me at all - what-so-ever, and it makes for good reading when I pick up the rag on Sunday morning. -Lynx Quote
darkhosis Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 (edited) haha, john wiley price. i thought that dude was dead by now. but he was up to the same type of !@#$%^&* 15 years ago when i lived in dallas haha. but now u can fight fire with fire when some dude uses that derogatory white dwarf shiz on ya Edited July 20, 2008 by darkhosis Quote
SeVeR Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 Imagine sitting across from a black midget in a tense discussion about law and politics and you say "That policy is dead inside like a brown dwarf". That MIGHT be pushing the line a bit lol. Quote
AstroProdigy Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 (edited) Hahaha it's funny how they put a hispanic reporter on the scene to avoid looking racist. Looks like Fox News is playing the PC game too. Edited July 20, 2008 by AstroProdigy Quote

There are dry erase boards that are called "Whiteboards" (they have a white surface that you write on with a pen). Should white people take offense to this? Quote
»Lynx Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 Well, it's actually a marker board... (This was brought up in that discussion) -Lynx Quote
Dav Posted July 21, 2008 Author Report Posted July 21, 2008 another one to throw in the mix from the UK. A "brainstorm" may be offencive to people with epilepsy so it now has to be referred to as a "thought shower" Quote
Aileron Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 I do find it utterly amazing that the same people who were fighting lynching, denial of the right to vote, and real segregation back in the 60s now fight this crap today. Quote
Samapico Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Who the !@#$%^&* decides that something is offensive for some people anyway? I'm pretty sure the concerned groups don't give a !@#$%^&*. Quote
FMBI Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I do find it utterly amazing that the same people who were fighting lynching, denial of the right to vote, and real segregation back in the 60s now fight this crap today. Keep in mind that some people (including Jesse Helms, who was widely lauded on conservative blogs after his death) still believe in those things. And, as ridiculous as a lot of this modern !@#$%^&* is, there are still legitimate issues, such as contraception. I'm sure you've heard about Bush's plan to declare several widely used contraceptive methods "abortion", thus paving the way for a ban if McCain is elected and (as he has promised to do) stacks the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade? Quote

Uhmm... trying to avoid looking racist isnt being PC. Theyre just covering their !@#$%^&*es, you would do the same. Honestly think about it "Lets run a segment on how ridiculously sensitive people can be, and at the same time do something that we now know those sensitive people might try to get us in trouble for!" PaRa$iTe Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 I'm not sure how they think that making half of the commonly used words offensive would reduce use of offensive words. I'm pretty sure most people would never have thought of "Black hole" and "racism" in the same sentence (at least seriously); now, though, it's been magically turned into a potential racial slur; not only that, but the more of those they find, the easier it will be for most people to recognize new ones. Whatever they think they're doing, they're just making the problem worse by emphasizing the notion that black = bad as well as pissing everyone off. Quote
ThunderJam Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Maybe you should make a new topic bout the contraception think cuz that can definitely be a debate in itself. I think the things you are talking about are morning-after pills and such. Those pills stop the egg from implanting itself in the lining of the uterus, AFTER the sperm and egg have met... so technically the fertilization of the egg has taken place... so it kinda could be considered abortion... I'm not saying that > I < consider it abortion, just pointing out the argument for it. Quote

They may only be doing it to cover their !@#$%^&*es and I may do the same, but its still PC. People are PC nowadays because they fear the consequences of not being so. PaRa$iTe Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Placing bans on stuff that PREVENTS fertilization is just ridiculous. Following that line of thought, declining to have sex should be illegal - in fact, spending a moment not actively seeking a sex partner means killing millions of potential babies. Quote
