fishy Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 I am going to make reasonable arguments here and back up my claims: 1. ZB-Bank is not open 24/7. If players deposit their money, they should be able to get their money back whenever they want, like an ATM machine. It is extremely frustrating when a player needs money and ZB-Bank is not online. If you can't get it online as often, then please don't have a bank at all.2. Mods are far from being professional and friendly. I have seen on numerous occasions when a player complains or suggests something and a mod just slaps them down, usually something rude as well. Despite the players' poor at!@#$%^&*udes at time, the mod should still be professional and friendly. Believe it or not, this helps the zone grow and keeps the players coming back.3. Lack of updates on F1 and server news. I raised in pub that the new ?Attach should be included in some do!@#$%^&*ent so that a beginner could access them. As in the previous point made, I was met with negative responses from the mods. They simply said that newbs wouldn't read f1 or server news. I would argue that some do and that a zone which keeps its do!@#$%^&*entation updated is a better zone than one which does not. At least say something like "ok we'll add in the near future" instead of "no we don't need it", in other words, "your suggestion is useless". Again, I would feel more at home if the mods were more professional. These are things that need to be trained. Someone on the higher rung of the HS staff needs to train the lower-level staff certain codes of conduct--is there even one in place? I don't think so.4. If Dr. Brain has to abuse to help an uneven freq to come back, then that means the frequency system is not working well. Too often we see "stacked freqs". Is there a way to install a freq evener which factors in player's EXP? The equation could be something like... if one freq has more players than the other OR if one freq's total exp is XXX more than the other freq, then switch however many players so that the total exp of each freq is about the same, making the minimal amount of player changes...5. Too many scamming bots. There needs to be regulation and limit on the number of bots that can blatantly cheat players' moneys. The odds of winning are not even close to that of a real casino. Since you can easily lose all the money you ?give, it makes the bots highly unfair. There's a point where a casino becomes unethical instead of playing on gambler's greed and desire to risk within reasonable, ethical boundaries.6. Consumables do not promote fast-paced flagging. Before consumables were introduced, there was a lot more rushing because players could afford to do so. I hope that some of these points will be taken seriously by the HS staff. I'm writing all of this in the hope that HS can be a better zone, so it is not my intention to flame or bash HS or the HS staff. There are many positive things that can be said about HS and its staff.
Sharpflame Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 1. There's a ZB-Bank? Never knew that. 2. I only get as unfriendly as not responding when my username is spammed in pm. 3. IMO, it's very useful to have the news file updated. I can't update it, though. 4. I think there might be a team evener in development. Maybe not, though. It seems like a minor problem to me. 5. Meh, those are the player's bots, it's up to the gambler to decide if he/she wants to throw away all their money with a small chance to win. They're all rigged at least a little bit, and you will lose money. Don't play them. 6. I give consumables a thumbs down. Your income rate is a lot lower when you buy a lot of consumables than if you didn't. That's why I never buy mounts that could get me to buy consumables. Make more money this way. 3
Stibbymicto Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 (edited) 1. ZB-Bank is not open 24/7. If you can't get it online as often, then please don't have a bank at all. Even real life banks have to close on the weekends. 2. Mods are far from being professional and friendly. I have seen on numerous occasions when a player complains or suggests something and a mod just slaps them down, usually something rude as well. Despite the players' poor at!@#$%^&*udes at time, the mod should still be professional and friendly. Believe it or not, this helps the zone grow and keeps the players coming back. (offensive)I agree, although it sometimes is a frustrating job to run Hyperspace AND keep us knuckleheads inline. I still think mods should be courteous and friendly. Even when confronted with a rather rude remark, a mod should smile and just give them an "eff you" behind their screens, not to us. sf is nice unless your a "OMFG SF YOU #@$ LISTEN TO ME" (defensive)And Hs players aren't nice to mods. 3. Lack of updates on F1 and server news. I raised in pub that the new ?Attach should be included in some do!@#$%^&*ent so that a beginner could access them. Someone on the higher rung of the HS staff needs to train the lower-level staff certain codes of conduct--is there even one in place? I don't think so. f1 should be re-done, and updated daily. When I first joined I went through f1, before and after resets, because I learned about them from playing in eg.Disproving the "noobs won't use them"because some of us do you use, and mods should consider THAT population of HS. 4. If Dr. Brain has to abuse to help an uneven freq to come back, then that means the frequency system is not working well. Too often we see "stacked freqs". The equation could be something like... if one freq has more players than the other OR if one freq's total exp is XXX more than the other freq, then switch however many players so that the total exp of each freq is about the same, making the minimal amount of player changes... ahh, that's a little complicated to implement. Its hard to use a ratio system on teams because it wouldn't be a simple system, And it would have to be stuck into the coding where it would do no harm to the original coding. I tihnk it's a great idea, it just needs more thought into it. 5. Too many scamming bots. There needs to be regulation and limit on the number of bots that can blatantly cheat players' moneys. The odds of winning are not even close to that of a real casino. Since you can easily lose all the money you ?give, it makes the bots highly unfair. There's a point where a casino becomes unethical instead of playing on gambler's greed and desire to risk within reasonable, ethical boundaries. I bet 13k once and got 605 back ^__^ But, I did it because I could. Bot are made to make the owners money, and if you play, you play at your own risk. 6. Consumables do not promote fast-paced flagging. Before consumables were introduced, there was a lot more rushing because players could afford to do so.Thors are easily spammed, Hence the higher prices. And since SO MANY people did it, you had to go to base 8 to by it,and you can't buy it in bulk.I want to show you to sharpflame's "Brick recharge" forum on how brick can come back into your inventory after a cooldown period. It's very easy to lose ALL the money you bet. That is far from being ethical. Yes, you play at your own risk, but no casino would implement the odds such as seen in the HS bots because they are simply too unethical and unfair. Thanks for the positive replies guys.

Gar Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 This is probably the biggest problem with HyperSpace: the at!@#$%^&*ude of the higher-ups. It's simply moronic. Free game = YOu, we, US the hs players have no say in anything.Leave kilo alone They honestly believe this. They honestly believe that since they are not 'being paid' (and by the way, they are being paid, it's just in intangibles rather than money) they can do whatever they want and ignore the players and it's all fine. I'm sorry, that's just stupid. Most players would rather these devs did not work on the game. Why would you complain that you're not 'being paid' when we don't even want the crap that you're doing half the time? You seriously think ammo did anything positive to the game? Yes, ?attach is interesting, and yes turf could be good, but that doesn't mean you're some great magnanimous contributor to the zone. You do it for personal reasons, you do it for personal satisfaction, and we have to put up with what you do to the game for your own kicks. Stop acting like a )#*%ing martyr and treat people decently and maybe they'll be nicer back. Kilo Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Whether you are hostile or not, it is tiring time and time again seeing posts from people who think the things they post are some sort of marvelous revelation to the rest of us and that their proposals are easily implemented (or at least they come off like that.) I don't deny being cynical. My intention was not to be hostile back, also note I didn't deny it was an elbow-jerk reaction post. Ethics of player run bots are not HS's concern, you shouldn't trust them more than you trust the bot owner (and in most cases this means don't trust them more than you would trust any random player in HS.) You will not see a staff endorsed bot designed to misrepresent what it does and scam you out of money. The only thing the UB represents is the "player" being an automaton subject to rules about how it can chat, more or less. I could run a manual gambling service, why would you be more inclined to trust a gambling bot I wrote more? It's as D1 says "GAMBLING IS BAD FOR YOU." Whether you agree with what a mod or sysop does (and no decision is liked by everyone), doesn't change the fact that they are the ones doing the work. If I was trying to be a martyr you would think I'd go around making my own threads about how HS players are so ungrateful. And while everyone who produces for the zone has a personal investment, but don't presume to know why we do it if you think it's for something so base as "personal reasons" and "personal satisfaction." The people that have questions and concerns that can present them in a decent manner are the ones being treated decently, though if that is not how things seem overall it does say something about how the majority of things go.. My bet is there will be another new thread in a week about the same things. On the bright side, this forum seems to be picking up in usage.

Dr Brain Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 1.) That's not something I have control over. The counter arguments have been made by others.3.) I'm sorry if you got the impression that it would never be added to F1. We've been trying to get an evener for... 6 months? 8?5.) We have absolutely no control over the internals of other bots. None. We can mandate some rules like !shutdown, but beyond that we don't control and can't control them. Because they are run from the player's computer, even a manual code inspection would be useless (not to mention impractical in every sense). Also notice that it's called ?give.
