We greatly appreciate your interest in our vehicle, but unfortunately, we are limiting our initial distribution to California residents only. This is due to many reasons including our dedication to seamless customer service. We will not have maintenance centers set up in other states until the expansion of our distribution as well as all of the state regulatory issues worked out. We are working hard to make the Aptera available to everyone, but in order for that to happen we need to solve any future contingencies on a regional level first. Production is slated to start in late 2008.

»Blocks Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 From what I've heard from someone at Idealab (one of Aptera Motor's angel investors), the Aptera is more marketing that vehicle, and still has a lot of unsolved engineering problems. Haven't looked into it much myself, but from just looking at it I can easily imagine lots of things that would prevent it from getting widespread use.

The reason they aren't using their first type is because a small diesel engined can't get commissions in Cali. 230mpg is !@#$%^&*ing ridiculous. The "good" cars now only get 35mpg at best. That is a 200 mile increase.
