Dynamic (Rotating) Tower

Italian architect David Fisher is building his first skyscraper, the Dynamic Tower. Every floor of the -story self-powered building rotates according to voice command, and nearly the entire structure of the $700 million building is pre-fabbed.

 

The rotation takes up to 3 hours, and gets power from photovoltaic solar cells and 79 wind turbines, one located between each floor. The system is meant to create enough energy to power to the entire tower and still have juice to spare for some surrounding buildings.

 

Construction on the Dynamic Tower will be unlike anything that preceded it. The only part of the tower built on site will be the skinny center core. It is strong enough to hold the floors in place, and will contain the building's elevators, which transport people and cars right to their door. Thats right guys, cars.

 

The first Dynamic Tower will be constructed in Dubai, second one in Moscow. And Fisher plans to build a third one in New York. The completion of the first is scheduled for 2010.

 

Sigh, I wish I have the money to buy myself a floor....but that will never happen lol.

they make it look so fancy when its all spining in unison, but each floor has voice activation to turn it when you please, so i can only assume this is going to be half as cool as they make it out to be

Dubai/UAE has way too much money. Dubai is an amazing looking city though. I just hope these arab states are looking towards the future when oil won't be around/worth as much...

rotation is a nice idea but when it breaks down i wonder how simple it will be to repair.

the only benefit of it i see is that if you forget something in your car, you dont have to wait for the friggin elevator then go to the underground garage, then get w/e u forgot

meh, The Dexia Towers are cooler with the leds under every window ^^. Too bad i never passed them when it was already dark :/, i used to p!@#$%^&* them with the train when i went to or came from university from /to home

how can you go through your day and think this is a waste? not only is this building self powered , (if your a re!@#$%^&*, it doesnt need 3rd party electricity), but it !@#$%^&*ing rotates.. self powerd, will make EXTRA green energy to power other buildings, ... people work there, live there, and .. did i mention it rotates?

Well if you think about it, most of the people who buys the special estates in Dubai are filthy rich. They might as well spend their money on something nice and green. Not to mention, Dubai has the first ever 7-star hotel.

I'd be kinda scared to live at the top, especially knowing that the whole building can move. I also wonder, how long would it take for it to bring a car up all the way to the top?

Well I think they made it easier to suicide. Drive your car out of the building!

 

I wouldn't consider it a waste since the way its getting electricity is very good.

Umm, actually, it's really hard to drive through concrete walls with that little room to pick up speed. Besides, people could can still just jump out of their windows in buildings/appartments, but it's still quite rare a sight, so I doubt this would encourage anyone to drive right off (especially considering the money they waste living there).

Isn't the point that the separation between floors and their ability to move allows the building to catch more wind and solar power?

I would think that living at the top could make you feel very sick. The building will sway slightly because of how tall it is and ontop of that your floor can rotate. I think I would prefer a big house to a place in that building.

 

EDIT: Just thought, it would be alot easier to keep the sun off of your TV / Monitor
