the fitting is fairly easy, other then the fact that they sent me the wrong bottom bracket cup for the non drive side but i found a work round fortunatly.

next thing on my list is a fork service though which can only be complicated :S

what sort of thing will you be buying next then?

I don't really know. I am really picky about my bikes, but I'll probably buy it in pieces. I've always been a Kona fan, but I might go for a Santa Cruz now that I'm no longer a kid saving 30 quid a week for new bike stuff. blum.gif

Fortunately I am still friends with the guys working at the cycle store, so I can still get pretty good discount. I am not too sure yet though, I went through a BMXing phase before I sold my last bike, so I may go for a simple BMX. Expensive mountain bikes need a lot of riding, and a lot of maintenance. They are also prone to breaking if they're not treated properly.

Actually, second-thinking, I think I'll be better off with a BMX as I tend to ride really hard, and they're so much cheaper/easier to maintain. Not quite as good at tricking on them though.

I'll probably start my own little project on it though, the last BMX I had I installed some Avid Hydraulic "V-Breakes" on it, so I could trick better. I may do the same again, but try and install some 4Pot hydraulics... I've not got University until Sept 2009, so time shouldn't really be an issue. I guess riding from Feltham to Richmond daily on a BMX may be kinda hard though. 0.o

tempted do a self build for my next project, possibly a kinesis maxlight XC2 with full XT.

if I buy complete then I'm not sure what I would go for. plan on keeping the current rig for another year yet though so things will probably have all changed again by then when the 2010 kit is all about to be launched.

I guess not much has changed since I was riding. I used to have some double wall Mavs on my bike, but they were nothing compared to the dee maxes, and I've come short on some pretty gnarled jumps plenty of times, and never broke a spoke. smile.gif

Not sure about the xmaxes though..

Lol, Halo wheels are terrible, I'd avoid them at all costs. I borrowed a pair, with XT hubs and I cracked the rear one doing something pathetic... I forget what... But they suck.. Although, they were really popular rims..

On my first bike I had some excellent ones, but I forget what they're called. They had white writing all around them, and they were pretty exclusive, and just a little cheaper than the Dee Maxes I got after... It's annoying the !@#$%^&* out of me.. blum.gif

Bah, I can't find them on the web. I think I still have like 15 issues of MBUK somewhere in my room from like 2004 onwards, I should see if I can find them.. blum.gif

good old MBUK, superb mag blum.gif Only problem is it seems to have become a bit too focused on DH/freeride/trials/DJ now and gives the impression that XC is for pussies.

I would consider myself more XC/AM so a lot is still relevant but it is annoying when you see yet another uber review of DH kit and a minimal part on XC bits.

yeah its true, kind of a consequence of being into cycling though as you are constanly wanting to buy better bits to ride :D

either that or i'm just plain geekey about anything I do (probably that one)

anyway project complete :D

You know, I still have a Hope MonoM4 pot brake, in very good condition if you want it. It will just need to be de contaminated. I've not touched it since 2005 though, so I'm not sure if it will work. I took all the break fluid out of it, so it should be okay with a flush. I think I even have a Truvativ carbon crankset that I paid near 250 for... If I can find them you can have it all for free... Not sure if I want to give away my snap on tool box and tools.. blum.gif

When I used the hope break though, it was probably one of the best brakes I ever used. Even better than my 8Pots because I spent so much time tuning it. Only the one though, I never bothered with a front brake.. blum.gif

I'll look in my bikehut later to see what else I can find... I remember there being a a XT gearset too, because I went single drive before I sold..

Oh, and I have a ChainPimp too, they're excellent tensioners.

Hrmm.. Just been looking on EBay... Thinking of buying a full DH bike to give me a good workout for getting to work, and getting to the gym. I can't believe how cheap they are now - might borrow a friends bike and go to Esher to see if there are any good deals going on... :D

Sounds like it all DH stuff which would be truly overkill for me.

Would probably fetch a fair bit on ebay to go towards your DH rig, or keep it to put on the new build blum.gif
