🜲 Samapico Posted June 17, 2008 Author Report Posted June 17, 2008 This is why you hate Windows? why? My computer was still working very well... Far too long? I started reformatting at 9pm yesterday, at 10:30pm I was back online on Windows messengerMaybe took an hour or two to go through my files and backup what I needed; but most of this was already on my other par!@#$%^&*ion. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/88/Half-Life_Black_Mesa_logo.svg/120px-Half-Life_Black_Mesa_logo.svg.pngDCME co-developerSSCU 17th Parallel sysop
★ Dav Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I never go back online until updates are completed and everything is installed properly, probably why it takes me so !@#$%^&* long. SSCC Desert Storm OwnerSSforum Admin
⛊ Drake7707 Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 TRAITOR! nah, a mac is useful if you browse internet or use office a lot. But that's about it (sure is quite expensive to do only that o-O)
★ Lynx Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I use the following programs on my computer: Adobe CS3 Master Collection <-= Available for the MacMicrosoft Visual Studio 2008 <-= A different (better) package is available for the MacMicrosoft Office <-= Available for the Mac, and the mac also has iWorkVMWare <-= Bootcamp>VMWare and I can use parallelsContinuum <-= Runs fine in parallels, and looking into WINEMessenger <-= Available for the Mac... and others... <-= All can run in parallels I personally would rather use a Mac any day over Windows. But I guess it took a while for me to get used to the Mac environment, though. -Lynx

🜲 Samapico Posted June 17, 2008 Author Report Posted June 17, 2008 Wow... just browsing internet is like 2x faster now http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/88/Half-Life_Black_Mesa_logo.svg/120px-Half-Life_Black_Mesa_logo.svg.pngDCME co-developerSSCU 17th Parallel sysop
⛊ Drake7707 Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 yeah if you don't ipconfig /flushdns or clean out temp int files (including the hidden subfolders Content.IE5 or Content.MSO) and defrag your c: once in a while it tends to be a loooot faster on reformat ^^ I would have formatted mine today, but i forgot i 'lend' my only working windows cd to a friend .... siiiiiiigh
★ Dav Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 i use CCleaner to keep my temp nice and clean. Will probably do another format in a couple of months now i have found my winXP pro key again (on home atm) SSCC Desert Storm OwnerSSforum Admin
★ Lynx Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 I'm getting a Mac. You don't need to re-format those because they don't suffer bitrot. -Lynx
NBVegita Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Just make an image of a fresh build, with all of your apps in place. That way you have an easy way to reload your system after a format. As for macs, I'd rather not buy a machine for $2000 that I could build for $400-800. No matter if you're for or against mac, you have to admit the compatibility is a pain in the !@#$%^&*. Even my fiance after being a maccer for life is having me build her a machine right now.

🜲 Samapico Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 Weird................ Now, when I plug something in my front audio port, the back port is muted... If I was using headphones, it would be fine, but I'm using the front port for a second set of speakers that I want to be able to easily unplug, cause I also use them on my mp3 player sometimes. Before the reformatting, I could use both ports at the same time without a problem...I think I have a different audio driver than I used to :Saccording to my saved PCmark results, I used to have 'HD Audio render', now it's a SoundMAX thingy... I have a bunch of different drivers stored, but it would be kind of weird that 2 different drivers would fit for the same item, no? Rebooting... more to come edit: It auto-reinstalls the SoundMAX thingy now... And I broke some other driver lol edit2: actually, I think the 'broken' device is something that appeared to replace SoundMAX while it was uninstalled, which is why it can't find a proper driver, cause the sound is already handled by soundmax now. So uninstalling it should fix... rebooting http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/88/Half-Life_Black_Mesa_logo.svg/120px-Half-Life_Black_Mesa_logo.svg.pngDCME co-developerSSCU 17th Parallel sysop
