For those of you who participated in the test run of a new game type, please let me know what your comments/suggestions are or anything else you'd like to say about it. Please note that this is not meant to be a pub replacement, so things like "I didnt earn enough money" do not apply.

 

A couple of changes I made during the second game:

- Slightly Smaller Lancs

- Drop timer cut in half

 

Changes I'm thinking about making:

- Instead of having a 30 minute time limit, make it a 60 minute flag time limit (not 60 minutes of real time)

- (Killer Soldier)>the smallers bases r alot of fun but bursts way overpowered there, (Killer Soldier)>same thing prob applies with shrap from bombs

Just held a pretty good game, ended up being 60:00-55:15 with probably about 4 lead changes

 

Alterations made for this game:

Switched to 60 minutes of flag time instead of 30 minutes of real time to win

Reduced Burst damage

Reduced antiwarp radius

Bricks need to be nerfed somehow. I imagine the same goes for pub, but considering that time is much more important in FC, bricks are uber.

 

My suggestion would be an anti-brick field (if one doesn't already exist). Bricking while inside is either disabled completely, randomly scattered about or has a chance of firing for a random team.

 

Slightly off topic:

To elaborate on the anti-brick-field (which will be called Brick Disruptor from here out): The field would have the following effect:

-When an enemy brick is dropped inside the field, one of the 3 following effects happen randomly:

1. The brick is negated entirely; never appears, but the item is "used"

2. The brick is scattered randomly around the field, retaining the number of actual tiles.

3. The brick is randomly !@#$%^&*igned to a new team (out of the pool of active teams).

 

Advantages:

- Negating an enemy brick would be clutch

- Converting an enemy brick to your team's for free is also quite handy.

- Even if the brick is converted to a freq other than your own, there is a strong possibility your enemy won't be able to get passed it either.

 

Disadvantages:

- Brick scatter could cause a very epic brick-warp through walls.

I think 2 bases would add more strategy than 6. Take the two most evenly matched ones - or identical bases.

 

With two bases both teams have to juggle defending their flags Vs. attacking for the other teams flags(works with 6 also, but teams aren't organized and its chaos with 6 flags*). Also they need to do some math to see whether they will win before the other team based on how many flags each team has, respectively.

 

*in fact I think it would be neat if all 6 flags were placed in a center location on the map and both teams are forced to start from their own flag room(somehow disable warping or make it warp to a 3rd base that is slower than leaving the normal base), would make for some epic center fighting to gain flags and then the attack/defend that was outlined above.

I think bricks are more effective in FC mainly cause the place to buy it is like an inch above (literally) the spawn point. Move it really far away and the effect might be lowered.

 

I think each flag should give 2 seconds of game time every 1 second of real time. Maybe flag games wont end that fast?

We just experienced close to the maximum length a game should take (unless people spend the whole time without dropping) and it was what 40 minutes? 30-40 is a good time to shoot for; I think 1:1 is working at the moment. Plus 2:1 gives attackers less time to try and come back

I think buying thors in safe after using them should be nerfed. There was at least one person at the center safe lobbing thors into the base and then returning back to buy more. I can see this getting worse...

 

I agree with the suggestion to nerf bricks too. The brick warp on lancs is not very cool either, but even worse...all a team would have to do is to keep stalling the enemy by dropping bricks. Maybe removing bricks altogether (except fields) would be best?

It seems like the main problems we're having in terms of gameplay are a result of item use, which was something I never really addressed. Because I was primarily trying to see how stable the module is, I just put center safe as a total store. The module seems to be doing pretty well at this point, so what I'll look into next is moving the store somewhere else that will most likely be accessible by some manner of sector transportation.

 

Also I have a lot of fixing to do in the area of stats:

This brings up an interesting question as to how we regard field stats. I think it's interesting to include the kills fields make, but maybe add a field kills column instead of having them in a row? Separately but also related, it could be interesting to track item usage by each player in the game.

Regarding stats: One problem that MG had as well is that the support ship(s) (in this case, the lanc) aren't really geared towards fighting or flagging, so they tend to get hosed in the stats department. On subgame I basically declared them SOL, since any stat that would apply to them would be near impossible to implement; but since we're on ASSS, maybe we could come up with a way to give them their own stats?

(1) This needs to replace the pub flag game. like nao.

(2) This scoring system is good, but I'd prefer to see something that more represents a tug-o-war game rather than a race. But, again, this is greatly superior to the existing pub setup.

and the bases smaller so if a team holds the flag, the team attacking won't to go through the whole base (Takes 20 mins) to get the flag.

 

smaller base = less time to take the flags = more compe!@#$%^&*ion

 

so the final score won't be 21:00:00 to 60:00:00

D1, To make it fair I think the freq that lost should get half what the winning freq got. If the winning team got 5k the losing team would get 2.5k. Because with out the losing team there wouldn't be any game. blum.gif Thats all I think is wrong with Flag Control.
