Aceflyer Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 any idea when it is going to get fixed? any updates ect...... Nope. I am sure the SS Council is on it, though.
»Lynx Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Ghost Ship handles it, and is pretty active. Should be up again in no time. -Lynx
Skywize Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Ok, coming up over 6 hours of downtime now. Can we get an update on this? Kind of getting tired of explaining the function of the biller to my players
Aceflyer Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 No updates as far as I am aware. I've also emailed GS myself just in case he hadn't already heard, so he should be on it shortly in any case.
Samapico Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Is there any way to still have staff powers with the biller off? Even my bots don't recognize me Stupid ^ And wasn't there some popup saying 'Biller is offline, blahblahblah' ? Is it just me or that doesn't appear anymore? Or it never appeared and I'm crazy?
»Purge Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Only on ASSS. You have to login with a password for MERVBot to gain access to them, however.
candygirl Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 It will come back online Just give them time.
L.C. Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Well Trench Wars still works. It doesn't give that popup. But the other SSC zones do. Not sure if there are any other zones besides Trench Wars that has special access or something.

Samapico Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Oh I see... DSB gives the popup, but does not add the '^' to the names... so I guess it's either the popup, or the ^.

»Lynx Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 The SSC biller isn't on one server, at least I don't think it is. I'm pretty sure it uses a load balancer between SSCU/SSCX/SSCI. This could easily explain the different ways in which each server is reacting. The carrot (^) is just a security measure.
»freakmonger Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Regardless, Ghost has been contacted but there is currently no update on the situation. Somebody from the Council will post an update as soon as we find out.
BlueGoku Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Like FM said, GS is already aware. I sent Priit an e-mail this morning as well, so it's out of our hands now. Just gotta be patient, hopefully he's not on vacation or something.
PoLiX Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 ^ = Server uses SSC Biller Proxy (Little side program that keeps the zones up even if the biller goes down, rather then them recycling. Also will reconnect them without recycle, although players have to relogin to regain full functionality).
»D1st0rt Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Anybody know where the biller is physically located?http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/06/01/1715247
X`terrania Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 (edited) http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?no_d2=...8/06/01/1715247 "Customers hosting with ThePlanet, a major Texas hosting provider, are going through some tough times. Yesterday evening at 5:45 pm local time an electrical short caused a fire and explosion in the power room, knocking out walls and taking the entire facility offline. No-one was hurt and no servers were damaged. Estimates suggest 9,000 servers are offline, affecting 7,500 customers, with ETAs for repair of at least 24 hours from onset. While they claim redundant power, because of the nature of the problem they had to go completely dark. This goes to show that no matter how much planning you do, Murphy's Law still applies." Here's a Coral CDN link to ThePlanet's forum where staff are posting updates on the outage. At this writing almost 2,400 pelople are trying to read it.http://forums.theplanet.com.nyud.net:8080/...592269&st=0 Priit will get up a new one if the original isn't put back up soon. - ghost-ship Edited June 1, 2008 by X`terrania
Vegito Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Terry didn't I post that link in MG spec chat like 5 hours ago? Way to be on top of things.
Hakaku Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 D1 beat you guys to it. -LynxPretty much. But at least this would confirm my !@#$%^&*umption that the SSC biller is hosted on ThePlanet.
»Lynx Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 I thought that the SSC biller was hosted in several locations, and ran a load balancer. That would explain parts of the biller being up, and parts being down. I know Pritt moved all of his hosting, including the biller from Europe to North America back in.. 2003? As ThePlanet is in Texas (Not too sure about that) - I suppose it would all fit. -Lynx
