It felt so good to read this thread. This is what I've been arguing about for months. Glad to see it's finally hit home for everyone else.

 

Unix needs his mod powers stripped, immediately. I won't even tell you why: if you, speaking generally to any dev, mod, or owner, actually cares or wants to know what's been going on when you're not around, get on your freaking zone and ask:

"Hey, who here has seen Unix abuse mod powers?"

 

Here's a tip: ?ignore all the privs and Unix's squadmates before you ask, or you might miss the ten or so 'normies' responding amidst the flood of propoganda from the rich people that benefit from Unix's abuses. Funny thing is, even some of the rich people aren't on his side, like fear-evil.

 

Anyway, about the basing.

 

I liked the 'item spam !@#$%^&*', but the devs here all have a 'vision' that has nothing to do with what their population wants. We can't change that. I think that limiting items to 1 max but having their 'reprize time' being modified by mounts or such is a great idea that combines skill and lack of spammage. It also slightly devalues Lancasters, Antideath, and dying-to-restock in general. For instance, one defense mount prizes a rep every 20 seconds and a burst every 25 seconds, while two defense mounts prizes rep every 10 and burst every 12.5? Have them deduct from the total reps/bursts you've bought, so you still choose whether or not you want to buy them. I like this system - it removes the 'strength of dying' aspect, too, something I always thought was a little strange. Currently, killing an enemy shark can actually be a bad idea, because it goes from a fast-moving but unthreatening hull (out of items) to a re-summoned fully stocked godship with like 7 items to spam and slaughter you with.

 

Most of the things said in this thread are exactly right. We can only pray somebody actually listens. I do believe that even a large majority outcry won't affect Arnk Dylie or Dr Brain, so it will be a very difficult battle trying to fix HyperSpace. Sad thing is, our forum team doesn't even have a forum lanc, so we're pretty much doomed.

I'm sorry, but I agree with devs...item spam sux. Let's not fight fire with fire cause everyone will get burned. I remember the thor spam days. It sucked, all we will wind up with is FG with nothing but reps, bursts, and maybe thors flying around.

 

Instead, I think that maybe the opposite should be considered:

 

* A limit of 1 or 2 max per life of reps, bursts, and thors. No buying thors, reps, or bursts freely from safe, but the items would be free (i.e. Speed Mount for rockets). IMO, one max would be best for all 3 items because it would focus more on the timing of the item, instead of the spamming of the item, in order to use them the most effectively.

 

* Low xp and money required to get the max for these items. (This would be to allow a new or near new player to participate in the defense (or offense) of a flag game.) Even one extra rep or burst more than the enemy team has makes a HUGE difference in FG. I'd personally rather that the difference between a newb player and a vet (or a new team and a vet) be based more on the ship and the weapons rather than the items.

 

 

With that said, I'm glad that some burst/shrap prot was added to some of the armor recently, this helps a bit. Thanks.

Why not lose the whole purchasing charecteristics of the zone and make it so that anyone can just use any ship any time, and they are all equally balanced. Why not make it just like every other boring zone.

 

Item spamming is often a waste of more, meaning you get less from kills than you do from 3 reps and 2 burst or a thor. Usually, that is the way it should be, but if people save up their money and choose to use more items to win the base then it means that was fun to them. Which is obviously the way things go around here.

I dunno if its possible but cant we have an item like that is only for a specific exp range? Like for people with exp 500 to 2k (or less) and it gives +1 maxrep and +1 rep. That way, we can encourage new players to actually do something more effectively than thrust + shoot.

i like that idea, special items for noobs that have an exp RANGE, so after 5000 exp (or whatever) you lose it and can not buy it

Yes but then they would not be able to use thier superships which they have invest 500k in and cant be killed be measily noobs.

 

Basically what this amounts to a set of "noob" weapons that once you p!@#$%^&* a certain stage you either have to use your expensive ship with lesser weapons or a noob ship with which has some advantages.

 

It is basically a handicap system like golf has.

I am not new to this zone but I am new to all of the changes that have been made since I lasted played here. I have only been in on a few flag games where the teams were basing and I can't even do anything to help. When I used to play in this zone, it took a while to get a well-balanced basing ship but now it almost impossible with the new changes. Granted I haven't played for awhile, but when I used to play I would have already had a nice Jav as well as a Spider and possibly a Lance or Weasel, but right now all I have is a crappy Jav, lol.

 

While this zone is still fun cause it is so different than the other zones, basing for me as well as other "newbs" is almost impossible and to be up against a freq of pros nullifies all of the fun that basing should be. Hopefully after three months of playing I can actually help in a flag game.

It wont really be that over powered weasel. And im only suggesting repel gets that treatment (if its even possible) since reps doesnt directly earn you a profit.

 

Besides, would you jump from an almost maxed or maxed out ship to a new ship with weaker items that you gotta repurchase just so you can have 1 free rep per spawn that is eventually gonna disappear.....unless you wont bother killing anyone.
