Turn of IE, every time I click a link from alt tab, it opens it with IE, and then it errors and billions of other no related/advertising screens pop up.

Sorry this seems like such an easy question, but not everyone in SS knows about computers or internet options blum.gif

You have to set a different browser as default to override using Internet Explorer when clicking links. You can't really turn off IE completely as it's quite integrated in Windows.

You say that you are having problems with Internet Explorer because of advertising screens (amongst other things). It seems you are infected with Ad-ware and/or trojans. I strongly suggest to disinfect using an anti-virus scanner and/or Spybot Search&Destroy.

If you don't disinfect properly, you will keep having problems with any (other) browser.

I concur. Spybot is a very good, FREE program. Enjoy.

always a good bet to go through the add/remove programs list and remove anything suspicious like "ultimate search bar" or whatever they call that crap these days.

Have you made sure that before scanning with Spybot Search&Destroy you updated the definitions? Have you run the scan again?

is it a popup to the same website each time? (Stupid question: isn't the popup caused by your default website defined in the browser settings?)

Have you checked at the bottom of the popup if there's a link to uninstall? (yes, some somewhat more legal adware have a way to uninstall it cleanly)

Don't forget to immunize spybot.

Might also be an idea to download another spyware detector as spybot doesn't pick up all the spyware.

I have the spybot and adaware combo. Works fine for me.
