Hakaku Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I was curious as to which one is preferred when adding staff lists to zone pages? Or rather which one looks better? In the linear version, the list can drag the page down a lot, depending on how much staff you have, and if you're including former staff as well. The advantage to this however, is that it's easier to add descriptions on the side of a player's name. Example:http://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/Devastation In a table'd version, the list is more neatly organized and it doesn't drag the page on forever. The disadvantage is that it's more difficult to add extra information, although this could be included in the player's page instead. An example can be seen here:http://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/User:Hakaku http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/zacinu/SubSpacebannt2.pngPSPACE (SourceForge) - Alternative client (source) to Continuum
rootbear75 Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 actually, as long as you know how the table is formatted, it's fine.worst comes to worst, you have to count, or re-edit ur edit but, i like the linear, cause 1, its a lot easier to add people to the list, and 2, it looks cleaner http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t54/badgersocks/FHTG/FHTG%20-%20redone%20shizniz/tgmember11.pngrootbear75> here is me nude <spoiler tag: Pervert... how many of you actually clicked this?>Samapico> I actually clicked the spoiler before reading what it was Corey> I clicked it cause i read what sama said first. darkreb0rn> I clicked it because I wanted to see you naked... rootbear75> O.o __________________________________2:IdleRPG> Mr Snuffleluphagus walked face-first into a tree. Just my opinion, though.
★ Dav Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I have to say i like the table version, looks a lot better and is easier to see vast numbers of staff on a single screen. SSCC Desert Storm OwnerSSforum Admin
★ Lynx Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I like the Table, it's much kinder on the eye, and like dav said, shows all of the staff on a single screen.
★ Maverick Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I like the table one too with the same reasons stated above. Check out your zone population statistics at stats.sshq.net! MaverickSubspace Statistics AdministratorRetired SSCU Trench Wars Super ModeratorTWCore Coordinator Administrator
★ Dav Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 we could always produce a template, or it can be copied from your example for people that wish to use it. SSCC Desert Storm OwnerSSforum Admin
★ CRe Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 A template wouldn't be too hard to do. I like the table one. -CReSSCC Desert Storm OwnerB.O.P. - Alive and running till the end of continuum. 4:L.C.> @Cre I am wearing.. 🜲 Samapico Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Yeah... I guess a template for that would be nice. The table is indeed nicer imo. But without a template, it's a mess in there Have no idea how templates work though... if it's something that requires admin, tell me, but if you wiki mods can do it, have fun http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/88/Half-Life_Black_Mesa_logo.svg/120px-Half-Life_Black_Mesa_logo.svg.pngDCME co-developerSSCU 17th Parallel sysop
★ CRe Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Just requires some coding inside a page. I'll work on it right now whiles I have the time. -CReSSCC Desert Storm OwnerB.O.P. - Alive and running till the end of continuum. 4:L.C.> @Cre I am wearing.. Hakaku Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 Well I like both, but my main reason for trying out the table'd version was because I didn't like how the page dragged on endlessly, making it seem like there's more content then there actually is. If you're going to make a template out of it though, make sure to design it using HTML, not WikiMarkup. And if no one's done it already, I'll see if I can get a dummy template up for comparison. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/zacinu/SubSpacebannt2.pngPSPACE (SourceForge) - Alternative client (source) to Continuum

Hakaku Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 Alright, I updated the page with comparisons between three different ways to obtain relatively the same effect. The first being the original code, the last being a template*, so that the syntaxt needed is simplified:{{Table | sysop= | mod= | smod= | botop= | dev= }}http://wiki.ssforum.net/index.php/User:Hakaku *Note: It's not a fully functional template, so if you omit one of the criterias, it'll still appear. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/zacinu/SubSpacebannt2.pngPSPACE (SourceForge) - Alternative client (source) to Continuum
