RhinoCort Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Everything in sticky info, all resulted in a failure. I installed continuum I don't have anything no anti-spyware I just bought a Kaspersky 7 virus scan and.. I ran kaspersky on my old computer with continuum.I even made a video what happens is bascially nothing.. I click continuum nothing pops out On my old computer continuum used to load up 50\50 sometimes it would hang in taskmanager I would have to run a system driver just to terminate it. On this computer it doesn't hang at all I don't even see it in task manager after I run it. Im using windows Xp with service pack 3, directX 9.0c (all tests passed). here is a video kind helpful? I don't know. Attached video. I also am running a patched TCPIP system driver that lowers lag universal but I ran it long before this and continuum worked (different computer) and I don't believe this is a network related problem since... It doesn't even start up. I think I probbly already mentioned it above somewhere but I guess I will retype it again IT doesn't hang up on task manager it just runs and closes really fast, doesn't hop around in processes like it used to in my old computer. This new computer came with alot of junk I uninstalled most of it.. AOL..nero..dvd converters etc.. installed hypercam for video capure (it didn't run before hypercam too)installed utorrent of course need it for new video releases etc shouldn't be a problem.Winrar?? I think everyone has it lol
RhinoCort Posted May 18, 2008 Author Report Posted May 18, 2008 Wrong Me->Stickies->Failed :\ found maybe related problem someone with kaspersky 7.http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=19846 whatever I am not expecting anyone to help me here at all just better to try then uninstall forever
ThunderJam Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Everything in sticky info, all resulted in a failure. look through all of the FAQsBrilliant root.
Shock Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Do you have sufficient privileges? Um, reinstall?
RhinoCort Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) yup im administrator.. why re-install its just installed its a fresh version of windows XP..I will continue to uninstall different useless items from add/remove Edited May 19, 2008 by que
»Maverick Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Continuum uses (an older version of) DirectX. Try running 'dxdiag' and see if everything with DirectX is ok by doing some test. Note; this is just a long shot though.
RhinoCort Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 did that I wrote that on the first page too all tests passed I got directX 9.0c
RhinoCort Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 in first page I attached a video with the DEP everything showingalso in the video I showed nothing happens even if kaspersky is competely disabled.kaspersky is disabled that even windows Xp says "Your computer might be at riskKaspersky is off" windows firewall I disabled enabled dcoes absouletly nothing.
Hakaku Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Hmm, I missed the video, but you didn't actually add Continuum to DEP's exception list. You chose the first option, when you really should have chosen the second one, then click the "add" button and search for Continuum.
»Maverick Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 think I probbly already mentioned it above somewhere but I guess I will retype it again IT doesn't hang up on task manager it just runs and closes really fast, doesn't hop around in processes like it used to in my old computer. I watched your video and you never checked or killed Continuum processes that are still running.Make sure that no Continuum processes are active in memory (use the task manager) before trying out things like disabling software. If there is already a Continuum process active, Continuum won't start up for the second time since it has protection not to allow multiple Continuum clients run at the same time. Have you tryed running an older Continuum client, like Continuum 0.38 and Continuum 0.39pr1? If both of these work then something new added to Continuum 0.40 is causing your problem. Since we "know" what has changed per version, you can narrow down your search for the problem.

Also I didn't show the processes in the video becasue of my username yah.. personal. Nut there is no instance of continuum It shows up for a little less then a microsecond you can barely see it if u dont press and hold enter key on the continuum shortcut which runs it 1000 times then you will be lucky enough to see it in task manager but yah.. it kills it self before it even initializates which tells me it isn't a file dependency problem aka.. no file missing etc.. just means something is preventing it like ollydebugger but I haven't installed any debuggers programming langauge compilers nothing like that its a fresh pc. Honestly this is something really stange if only I could unpack continuum I could probbly fix it my self by patching the checks but haha well dunno what works out I really don't care but I do miss continuum
rootbear75 Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 dude, srsly, f ur revealing SOOO much information in ur username that you cant post it, then there are probably OTHER things besides revealing it to us that you should be worrying about. and the symptoms of it popping up all over the place has been addressed before.there is SOMETHING preventing continuum from opening. The best thing u can do is disable processes one by one until you find which one is preventing continuum from opening
»Maverick Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 lol rootbear, calm down que, you can unpack Continuum 0.38 (and partially Continuum 0.39pr1). You'll be helping lot of people (in the future) if you can find out what's causing the problem.Read more about unpacking (with a program named UnPeX) at http://sharvil.nanavati.net/projects/subspace/unpex.html
»doc flabby Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 A good idea is to install and run spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.htmldont install TeaTimer. And just do a scan. It often picks up things other programs miss.
RhinoCort Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Okay I downloaded Spybot unpdated the definitions and nothing was found but a bunch of cookies. Anyways I attempted to unpack it thanks for info Maverick I ran into a little problem after I unpacked 0.40 It is not runnable but I'll keep trying for fun haha http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/7572/unpackcontinuumsr0.png Edited May 21, 2008 by que
rootbear75 Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 thats a first lol.. also mav, who is that guy? im trying to think of what random guy would make an unpacker for SS
»Maverick Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 que, stated on snurrb's website, Continuum 0.40 can't be unpacked properly. Only Continuum 0.38 can be unpacked successfully so you have to stick with that. rootbear, it's snurrb.
»doc flabby Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 try using msconfig to disable "startup" items disable everything (apart from essential stuff)
Hakaku Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 ^I'm still waiting on my answer about DEP (in the video you chose the wrong option, as I mentioned in my earlier post); if Continuum is shutting down as soon as it's started, it sounds a lot more like something external is closing it, and it's most likely has to be a Windows application if it's a fresh install of XP. Other than that, I can only recommend you to reinstall Continuum into a different location (I suggest trying on a USB stick if you have one). Edit: Someone has a similar problem as you, and has KasperSky: http://forums.trenchwars.org/showthread.php?t=33623
RhinoCort Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Its unpackable I think? and patchable I attached it unpacked u gotta patch it without running it in debugger with hex editor or you'll have to restart your computer as it will start to jump around processes I'll post a fix to whats causing it from running. tommrow or soUN.Continuum.zip Edited May 21, 2008 by que
Snrrrub Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Patching after unpacking won't help in this scenario - the executable checksum will be wrong so you won't be able to log in. If the executable is modified in any way in memory, it will abort silently (if the modification happens before the executable is uncompressed), tell you that a virus has corrupted the executable (if modification is after uncompressing but before displaying the app window), will try to update to a "new" Ctm version due to checksum mismatch (if modified after displaying the app window), or kick you off the server due to executable checksum mismatch (if modified when you're in a zone). In other words, don't mess around with hacking the executable if you expect to log in to a zone with it. The problem is likely with DEP or Kaspersky touching some part of the executable's memory even though you're telling it not to. If you have a debugger attached or you have a system level debugger installed (e.g. WinDbg, SoftICE, etc.) you will also see this problem. Try uninstalling Kaspersky and stopping all related services. Hope that helps and saves you a bit of time. -Snrrrub
