rootbear75 Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Stephen Starr's take on the cheesesteak is a far cry from the paper-wrapped, whiz-topped Philly classic you know and love. It comes loaded with shaved Kobe beef, lobster, truffles, taleggio cheese and a $100 price tag at Barclay Prime. Despite the cheesesteak buzz, Barclay turns out to be the least gimmicky and over-themed of Starr's 13 Philadelphia restaurants. Housed in the former Barclay hotel on Rittenhouse Square, the atmosphere is classy and elegant. It's more upscale than Starr's other venues, but the chandelier-lit, spacious dining room manages to feel hip and avoid any Le Bec-ish stuffiness. Among the elite crowd, we spotted celebrity chef Bobby Flay, the cute redheaded host on the Food Network.http://media.www.34st.com/media/storage/pa...k-2190502.shtml
»Purge Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 I wouldn't pay so much to taste something so common.
FMBI Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 In the first place, ew.. Kobe beef, lobster, and truffles stuck together? And I thought people were gross for eating caviar.. In the second place, I hate to be a downer, but this is just another symptom of wealth inequality. When you have people willing to spend $100 on something so worthless, while [cliche]most of the world lives on less than $2 a day[/cliche] and even in the US, the top 1% owns more than the bottom 90%.. Sick.
darkhosis Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 no moar cheesesteaks http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/...=22&sp=true
X`terrania Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 ENEVA (Reuters) - Obesity contributes to global warming, too. Obese and overweight people require more fuel to transport them and the food they eat, and the problem will worsen as the population literally swells in size, a team at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine says.
darkhosis Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 The researchers found that obese people require 1,680 daily calories to sustain normal energy and another 1,280 calories to maintain daily activities, 18 percent more than someone with a stable BMI. Because thinner people eat less and are more likely to walk than rely on cars, a slimmer population would lower demand for fuel for transportation and for agriculture, Edwards said. This is also important because 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions stem from agriculture, he added. The next step is quantifying how much a heavier population is contributing to climate change, higher fuel prices and food shortages, he added. -- i think SOME people need to purchase some of those elite carbon credits, we all know how much that helps! food shortages, omgz
Dav Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 you can have slim people that eat more though, usually people who are into sport.
JDS Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 slim people May eat more , but the foods fat people eat require alot of manufacturing to make (twinkys, chips, pop <-- these factories will produce green house gases) not to mention fat people are more prone to trow their trash on the ground because they can not be bothered to walk to a garbage bin. the foods a slim sport person would eat would either be grown(vegies fruit) or raised (animals) all in all, a slimer population would result in less greenhouse effect. fat people genocide time imo
Cancer+ Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Well aren't we the prejudice type. Fat people give off more greenhouse gases? Do you have proof for that? This is so illogical, it's stupid. X'terr, JDS...were you abused, raped, made fun of by fat kids when you were younger? It sounds like you have deep repressed issues surrounding fat kids. We could set up therapy for you if you want. SSTherapy. Idiots. Anyways, I wouldn't pay $100 for any kind of food. Just not worth it.
X`terrania Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 There's reasons why fat people die quicker from heart failure/diseases. They need to start eating healthy, start eating food that isn't overly processed and loaded with calories/trans fat. Sure, Dav, athletes eat a lot of food because they need to build muscles/and they're going to burn it off and don't want their muscles catabolized, but fat people don't need two large pizza's and a liter 'o cola if they're just sitting down to watch the Wheel of Fortune.
rootbear75 Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 but fat people don't need two large pizza's and a liter 'o cola if they're just sitting down to watch the Wheel of Fortune.right there is your problem you assume ALL fat people eat 2 large pizzas and a litre of cola, when they dont... both of you guys need to seriously grow up
Suicide_Run Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 I could eat so much more stuff with that $100 spreaded over a bunch of meals and still taste as good. I dont really mind fat people unless their thighs are about the width of my waist...now those ppl seriously need to lose some weight seeing how they take up 2 seats D=
»Lynx Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 I have no pity for fat people, all they seem to do is eat themselves into a self-destructive spiral of depression, and blame their genetics for being fat. It's not hard to pick up a book, and read up some dietary methods to help lose weight, or even slowly start to exercise. The majority of fat people I talk to are like... "Yeah, I'm going to do a home-video work out this week..." and I ask them, why don't they just join a gym or something, I've even offered to train some of my friends free of charge (I'm a qualified Fitness Instructor part time - that includes free access to a top gym) and they just say.. "Nah, I can't be bothered to travel to a gym"... I just say... !@#$%^&* em' - if they can't be bothered to do this, or are too pseudo depressed with life that they've lost their drives, let them hit bottom, maybe the extra belly fat will help them bounce back up.
FMBI Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 I don't have a problem with moderately fat people (Here in the states, almost nobody looks good past 20), but I just get pissed when they get in to "willpower" and "I'm trying, !@#$%^&*it, I'm trying" - I mean, I'm lazy as !@#$%^&*, but when I decide to do something, I get it done. And with the thousands (make that tens of thousands - !@#$%^&* that, hundreds of thousands) of studies done on the negative effects of being overweight, I'd think that they'd do the math and figure "Let's see, save $50-200,000 on medical bills over 10 years, live another 15 years* - !@#$%^&*, I could afford 30,000 restaurant meals, and I'd be around long enough to eat them!" - instead they just live unhealthily, day in, day out. Whatever. It's your health and your pocketbook, right? And don't even get me started on this new "Don't diet, instead pay us $10 per meal and we'll mail you 'healthy' food!" craze.. God, I hate diet fads, but this is even worse. It's making people feel good about failing. * Yes, there have been studies done that you can increase your lifespan by more than a decade by "pursuing healthy options" and exercising. All those fat ASSS dragging down our national life expectancy.. we'd be tied with the Japanese by now if it weren't for them.
